whitney didn’t even realize she was crying until she felt someone looking at her. “i’m sorry” she spoke, her voice shaking, “i’m usually not an emotional basketcase... work has just like- been really getting to me lately. forgive me.”

victoria had just finished off a relatively tiring and stressful work day and though she had a pile of paperwork to finish off at home, she desperately needed to go to the grocery store. as she walked around the store, she came across the cake mix section and figured ‘why the hell not?’ as she stared at the options, she couldn’t decide between two flavors. “um, excuse me,” she slowly walked up to you with a small smile. “i can’t decide so i’d figure i’d get a second opinion, but which is better; angel food cake or red velvet?”

“i mean, my personal favourite is red velvet- but in the end it’s all about what you want.” whitney said, her eyes scanning the cake mix for a confetti mix- she was making a cake for her coworker’s birthday. “sorry my inner therapist totally came out there!”

“oh come on, have ANOTHER DRINK. it’s on the house, my treat.” anderson spoke loudly from the other side of the bar in order to be heard over the music. really, this was a boring night for anders. none of his usuals had come in tonight, so he was trying to find himself new regulars. it was a bar everyone could enjoy - especially if you wanted a show with your drink. “i’d keep the drink off the bar though - we have to get up on it when certain songs come on.”

taking a sip of her water whitney looked timidly at the man, scanning him from up and down- trying to be critical of the situation. this wasn’t particularly her sort of ‘usual hang out’. “sorry sir, i’m only here to be the dd for my coworkers. if you’re offering like soda or water then i’d be more than happy to take you up on that offer though.”

some backstory: 

whitney was born to a single mother in buffalo, ny. she grew up having a rough childhood, they lived in a small apartment due to financial issues. when whitney got old enough, she got a job at a local restaurant waiting tables by their apartment while also volunteering at a youth centre in her spare time. she did both of these things while maintaining a solid 3.7 GPA in high school. this got her into college in which she studied psychology and that lead her to where she is today!
