“average Doctor is really really cool” factoid actually just statistical error. average Doctor is very uncool. Twelfth Doctor, who rode a tank in to do battle in a medieval arena while absolutely fucking shredding on the electric guitar in sunglasses, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

This episode of Doctor Who was titled Lucky Day because it was Conrad’s lucky day that he only met this regeneration of the Doctor and didn’t have to face whatever horrifying fate worse than death that 9-12 would’ve thrown at him for the shit he pulled

okay. i need people to understand the main issue here. ncuti gatwa is the first (full time) black doctor. his entrance was overshadowed by david tennant. his entire run has been the least watched run, many of you admit you did not watch his era. now, after only 16 episodes and a few specials he has regenerated and all people are talking about is billie piper. do you really not see the issue at all? and don't even get me started on what they did to belinda! i'm so BOGGLED by the amount of disrespect thrown at fifteen. he barely got to BE HIS OWN CHARACTER. we barely know him and he's gone. unreal.

if they were casting Billie Piper to be The Doctor, her OWN, NEW version of the Doctor, I think she would do a brilliant job at that. Billie would be a brilliant Doctor in a world where she doesn't already have so much baggage with the show. But it's pretty clear from the way the copy has been written about it that that... is not the intention. And I am already just so tired.
Can we please put Doctor Who in the hands of someone for whom the show is a fresh passion, someone who can bring something new and fresh to the show??? Inua Ellams' single episode felt so much more realised than the entirety of ALL of RTD's worldbuilding since he returned, it felt more like a distinct vision of something the show can be than all of this new era.
I promise the BBC that a middle aged welsh man and a middle aged Scottish man are NOT the only two people on the planet capable of writing good episodes of Doctor Who

Tumblr's already full of strong, mostly negative feelings about that Doctor Who finale, but honestly I think one of the biggest issues was that the season felt like it should only be half-over. 8-episode seasons do not suite this show.
I get why people are saying Belinda's character was butchered, but I don't feel like we even knew Belinda. We didn't have enough time to.
(and I did complain earlier about how I feel the main female companions are needing more variety in their personalities, but that was only part of the issue in this case.)
There were a lot of things in the finale that were fun and cool, despite a couple of eyebrow-raising choices, but I think overall it would have felt more solid if the whole season hadn't been left with so many loose ends. I don't think "rushed" is the right word. It feels instead like it was being written at the pace of a 12-episode season, with all these pieces that could have naturally resolved themselves if they had a little more time. Instead of trying to "rush" through wrapping everything up, they left too much hanging without the promise that they're planning to get to it later.
(but for more personal opinions worded in vaguely spoiler-free ways: yes, it should have been the other Rani. Yes, giving Conrad's stupid world any praise at all was gross. No, I don't think she's the next Doctor and I hope not because I'd rather it be her original character coming back again.)

Out of everything in the whole episode, the joy i felt at the canon fact that Fifteen and Thirteen got along so easily is extremely immeasurable. 💛🧡
