Older Living Weapon coming to retrieve a younger Living Weapon from punishment/training. The younger one collapses to the ground when they're released.

"Get up," the older one says. Not unkind, just what needs to happen.

But the younger one isn't that strong yet. Hasn't learned how to push through all the pain. So they curl up and start crying.

"I can't-"

"You have to."

Maybe the younger one gets up, slowly, trembling, painful. But they do it.

Or maybe they're not there yet, and they beg for just a moment. Just give me a moment, please-

But the older knows there is no moment. They don't get that. They don't get to collapse, they don't get a break. They have to get up, and get up now.

So they don't help. They just tell the younger this. "There is moment. You have to get up."

Have you got any recommendations for episodes where the whumpee is tied up/tortured/beaten and they have to be saved by their team or loved ones but not before an *almost* fatal injury occurs?

Similar to Lucas Hood in Banshee, when he's found just after he's been stabbed at the end of season 1. Or Danny Williams in H5O, when he's found just after being shot on season 10.

bonus points if they're in and out of consciousness and need immediate medical attention or if the one saving them witnesses the almost fatal injury happen!

Oooh good trope for SURE. That episode of Hawaii Five-0 is like my all time favorite. I think I got some more examples that are near to this as I can think of. I mean I can't think of anything as good as that H50 episode though but these might work:

rewatching macgyver 2016 s1ep13 large blade and thinking wistfully of jack becoming director and being read in that oversight is james macgyver aka macs dad and jack having to deal with that information even as Mac falls to pieces around him trying to find james macgyver who is right beneath their noses

some tiny details that tickle the whump senses

• dark circles, bloodshot eyes

• falling asleep fully clothed, possibly with jacket and shoes still on, legs/feet hanging off the foot of the bed or sprawled half-on half-off a couch

• the “oh shit, i’m gonna faint/nevermind i’m good” face (and aborted grab for nearest solid object or person)

• a character losing their footing for a moment on rough terrain. someone reaching out to grab them so they don’t fall and they both hold on for a hot second

• closing their eyes and leaning into a gentle touch

• shaky hands, shaky voice

• falling asleep at their desk at work/tucked away in an odd place

• doing things that are out of character & having others start to notice: losing their cool, being extra chipper or extra quiet, jumpy

• zoning out

• someone getting between them and whoever they’re having a heated exchange with, gently pushing them back with a hand against their chest or shoulder

• slipping out of sight from the others to lean against a wall, tip their head back and close their eyes

there was johnny whump, it was more mental he kept trying to die for people and no one let him. stopped at least 3 times, potentially more. waiting for fics about it. also hypoxia

guess I'm watching it tonight. hopefully the fics will come! I've been looking for Johnny whump for years now

i really like it when a character tries to calm someone down by going "it's ok, you'll be okay" all the while their tone and body language reveals that it's very much not okay and that they're clearly saying this to reassure themself as well
