i'm not much of a writer (still stuck on the second thing i wanted to write for Whumptober lol, and just got a small handful of OC fics aside from that), I made some gifsets last year and wanted to do more this year but only managed to do one community prompt. i can link you to that if you want to dm or send an ask off anon :)

Whumpuary 2025 Stats!

In this post I will share some stats from prompt voting, AO3 and the survey.

The most voted prompt, with 148 votes, was Drugged. Followed by "Please, stop" with 144 votes, Blood with 140 votes, "This will hurt" with 138 votes and "I'm fine" with 133 votes. Manhandled just missed the top five with 132 votes. Bruises, Rescue, Overworked and Twisting the Knife make the top 10.

(Until about a day before voting closed, "Please, stop" was always in the lead by 1-2 votes)

Some of the least voted prompts included Train Tracks, Scapegoat, Ashes, Time and Heartless. (More abstract prompts that aren't necessarily whumpy by themselves seemed to be less popular, whereas classic whump prompts and most dialogue prompts were more popular.) 2 out of 13 dialogue prompts didn't make it on the prompt list, one was "Do it" (which was supposed to go on but I missed it and put "I'm fine" twice), and "Give me a break", which had significantly less votes than the other dialogue prompts.

10 people shared their favorite prompts in the survey. "Do you trust me?", "No one is coming", Gunpoint and Devotion were all named twice, the other 19 were each named once, so it seems no one prompt stood out as a favorite, they're pretty nicely distributed instead. Multiple of the prompts that were only named once are in the top ten from the voting.

5 respondents voted for prompts in November, 4 both voted and submitted prompts and 6 did neither.

Out of 15 respondents, 53.3% said they're participants and 46.7% are completionists. 80% have not participated in Whumpuary before, but 80% have participated in other whump themed creation events.

11 respondents created fanfiction, 5 did original fiction, 1 person did fanart and 3 did gifs/video edits. 10 respondents posted their works on tumblr, 9 posted on AO3 and 1 person didn't post their works. (This was a multiple answers question, so several people posted both on tumblr and AO3).

The first few days of both creation and community prompts were completed by more respondents, after that the numbers decline a bit and go up again for the last creation prompt day. The most popular creation prompt days with respondents are day 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. The most popular community prompt days are 2, 4 and 6.

(This isn't perfectly representative as more people participated in the challenge than ones who filled out the survey.)

The event ended with 230 works and 113 fandoms in the official Whumpuary AO3 collection. Of the 9 survey respondents who posted their works on AO3, 6 used the official Whumpuary collection, and presumably there are more people who didn't fill out the survey and didn't use the collection. The collection will stay open for everyone to use with the 2025 prompts.

And I believe that's all for now! With a limited amount of survey respondents the data isn't perfect, but since this is all just for fun it's still some cool and interesting stats to have.
