I can’t believe I’m coming out of near tumblr retirement for this, but I feel like some things need to be said. Some disclaimers before I start, this is in no way targeted at a specific sub-fanbase or ship. This is also not targeted at a specific group of people, this is for EVERYONE, regardless of how you identify. This goes for the entire fandom(and many others honestly) as a whole.

POC and LGBTQIA+ voices in fanbases are often pushed to the side. We quite literally are ignored and brushed over and many of us have stopped engaging or have completely left for this exact reason. I understand that things right now are tense between everyone, but that does not give anyone the right to be disrespectful and intentionally or unintentionally hurtful to ANY specific group.

If another fan is coming to you and RESPECTFULLY trying to tell you about a specific issue not regarding fan theory or interpretation, it is probably in your best interest to listen and take in what they are saying. Please remember this: THESE ARE BOOKS. The beauty of books is that they are open for interpretation. What one fan interprets another character thinking, another sees the complete opposite and that’s okay. However, the other fans on this website are REAL people.

Again, I know this time in the fandom is very frustrating for all of us. However, we are all aware of the things we are saying and are responsible for them. What you say is a reflection of you. At this point, we all know the power of language. I know many of you have analyzed and memorized these books backwards and forwards. If someone is reaching out to you about something that could possibly be hurtful to a certain group of people, LISTEN. You are not always correct. You cannot claim to be an ally on racial/identity issues and not be able to be taught.

Everyone, including myself, is learning and growing every day. We may not be as knowledgeable as we think. At this point in time, ACOTAR has switched to be an adult series. If you cannot converse respectfully, then you are not ready to read or be involved with these books.
