kleya and luthen being the centre of the rebellion from the start. they’re each others catalyst, spinning tightly together and gaining energy with each turn. spurring others into action, random moments across the galaxy connected by what luthen and kleya build. the way that kleya’s comms bring luthen to bix to cassian. send vel and cinta off apart and then together. are a voice to the ghormans. get mon from a senate arrest to yavin… and then when everyone’s flown away, when the rebellion has cast luthen aside, it’s kleya’s same old rebellion radio which still reaches cassian. gets the words death star from the isb to the rebel alliance

and kleya is so sure she can’t do this without luthen. all she believes in is her connection to him. until cassian and melshi drag her to yavin and mon wants to know if she’s okay and vel finds her in the forest because she has friends everywhere. she’s the connection between them all. and when kleya wakes up and stands smiling out at the heart of the rebel base realising that even if luthen has burned what they built has lived on… I don’t have lately, I have always. it will always be because of them

one of the hundred things I love about Andor is that in the end, all the villains were destroyed not in an epic showdown with the rebels or whoever but by the machine that they worked for. syril was a faceless casualty of the genocide he helped create. dedra was done in for putting ambition over conformity to the machine, and she took down partagaz, who essentially created her, along with her. even heert was quite literally killed by his own droid and his own men. all of them were crushed by the wheel they dedicated their lives to keep turning. it's just so deeply deeply satisfying.

Okay, much to process, much to process, but one hot take before bed: for me the sequence leading up to Syril's death was perfect, 14/10, no notes. He has a crisis upon learning that his job wasn't what he thought it was and that Dedra's been withholding information/manipulating him, but rather than sprint into the square to try to protect people or to join the resistance, his reactions are to (1) assault Dedra, (2) spin out uselessly, and (3) react with instinctive, snarling violence upon recognizing Cassian - completely unable to recalibrate his moral system in the face of new information and just seizing on the first person he'd previously categorized as a bad actor to try to recover his own sense of self-righteousness. And then the "who are you?!" right before he gets shot by the man he shoved down in the street for calling him a stooge and a narc? Perfect to me. He's more upset about finding out that his self-concept as a daring romantic hero was mistaken than he is about people getting hurt, and he gets exactly the ending that such an inability to overcome ego deserves.

genevieve o'reilly's performance as mon mothma is, quite possibly, my favorite performance in all of star wars. she has brought such life and depth to this iconic character, who, when she first appeared in the original trilogy, hardly existed at all. genevieve o'reilly has been playing this character for two decades now, and before andor, she had been given crumbs, and those crumbs were largley cut, and still, even then, she brought such incredible grace and power to this role. it's truly remarkable, and she deserves all the praise in the world

Syril realizing everything he's done has lead to this, to the slaughter of innocents. He seems remorseful. Until he sees Cassian, the man he's been hunting. And he attacks him, beats him, nearly kills him.

And then Cassian asks who he is. And Syril realizes that this hunt was pointless too.

And then he gets shot in the head.

What a fucking ending.

"rebellions are built on hope" coming from a random ghorman bellhop, who cassian met twice is really the most andor/rogue one thing ever. because he is SO random. they all are. every rebel. every member of rogue one. they are just random, ordinary people, who were willing and brave enough to give up everything for even a chance at freedom. and that is so important

There was this horrible moment I had while reading SotR today where I realized Haymitch looked at Katniss and saw the dead little girl with dark braided hair he had to carry to Snow’s doorstep, his best friend he had to push away for his own good, and the Covey girl he couldn’t save all rolled into one more tribute he had to lead to her death wearing the meanest girl in town’s pin. I need to be sedated
