Hey folks!
Do you like museums? Do you like it when a museum staff member is there at the museum to tell you about the objects and galleries? Do you like tour guides who are passionate about what they talk about?
Then please sign this petition!
The Visitor Engagement Team at the Melbourne Museum and Museums Victoria is being gutted and replaced by customer service roles and security guards! The Visitor Engagement team offers world-class, unique experiences to all the Museums' visitors, sharing their knowledge and passion for the sciences, history, and natural history with anyone and everyone!
Museums Victoria is a public service and therefore your voice counts! Whether you're a Melbournian, Australian, or even from elsewhere in the world, this museum was made for your experience. So speak up and tell the Museum Board that this change is not what you want!
Not only will visitor experience be severely impacted by these changes, but about half of the Visitor Engagement team will be losing their jobs or having their hours halved. You may have heard that the Victorian Public Sector is cutting jobs but these changes are not a part of that! Certain parts of upper management are just firing their lowest paid workers during a cost of living crisis!
Please, save Museums Victoria's Visitor Engagement Team!

The Pevensie children are too old for their age.
Their mom notices, at the dinner table. She sees no nagging children, no stupid fights. She sees Lucy eating and speaking with perfect manners, Edmund analysing the economy and war with concerning skill, Susan being gracious but poised, like a diplomat.
Their father sees it in Peters eyes the first time they get into a fight. When he moves to punish Edmund for speaking out of turn, Peter calls him out on it. When his gaze meet his eldest son's, he's leveled by the war he sees behind it, the tensed muscle in his arm, the knuckles white around his knife. He's seen that before, in other soldiers. He doesn't know how to react.
Other children notice, too. Talking to all the Pevensie kids at the same time is like being the only one left out of a secret, and the way they touch and tease each other speaks of a history far deeper than their polite demeneor lets on. And when they walk they fall in line, as if there is a natural hierarchy between them.
The first time anyone picks a fight with Edmund, Peter comes home with a three week suspension and blood around his mouth. He looks more alive than you've seen him in weeks.
When Susan gets back in the pool after Narnia, she wins all the contests. Coaches can't explain how to beat her, because they don't understand how she's doing it, either. She seems to almost disappear when underwater.
Lucy, always gay and golden-haired, starts dancing, and never misses a step. She moves with an elegance that no 10 year old should have, and all the girls want to be friends with her
Edmund soon becomes the best student in his faculty. He always seems to know the right thing to say, and teachers laud his ability to think through complex problems. His mouth does get him in trouble sometimes, but the boy seems uncatchable, always talking his way through the cracks. And if not?
No one actively fears Peter, but everyone is a little scared of him sometimes. He's tall for his age, sure, but there is something else, some other air that seems to give him an authority far beyond what's normal for a teenage boy. He's nice enough, but teachers can't stand it, and bullies learn very quickly that pissing him off means missing teeth and black eyes.
The Pevensies are not quite inhuman, but not fully mortal, either

WILL WRITES BOOK REVIEWS!
THE POPPY WAR, by R. F. Kuang
Feb 2023, 5 ⭐️, 17/70 books.
This book was…horrific.
But it was beautiful at the same time. Not only does is play upon the haunting ideas of grief and revenge and anger and how that comes out in war torn countries, it does it with a stunning story inspired by Chinese history/mythology.
The characters are multi layered and there isn’t anyone who is just “good” or “evil”. Everyone has a skeleton in the closet, something they must avenge, and everyone has multiple faults, which makes this collection of characters all the more interesting.
The action is brutal, barbaric and there are so many triggers to keep in mind, and this story is not for the faint of heart. It’s going to punch you in the face, stab you in the stomach and then pour salt on your wounds all the while bringing you to tears because of the barbaric nature of war.
Stunning, inhumane and spirit crushing, this book is a masterpiece.

thinking about tragic fates again
the burning god - rf kuang // hamlet - william shakespeare // the burning god - rf kuang
[ID: screenshotted quotes. the first ones says "Oh, but history moved in such vicious circles." the second one says "What piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving, how express and admirable in action, how like an angel in apprehension, how like a god! The beauty of the world. The paragon of animals. And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?" the third one says "She saw it in a flash of utter clarity. She knew what she had to do. The only path, the only way forward. And what a familiar path it was. It was so obvious now. The world was a dream of the gods, and the gods dreamed in sequences, in symmetry, in patterns. History repeated itself, and she was only the latest iteration of the same scene in a tapestry that had been spun long before her birth." End ID]

In a 2012 interview in New York Magazine, Mandy Patinkin said that his most famous line from The Princess Bride (1987) (“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”) gets quoted back to him by at least two or three strangers every day of his life. Patinkin told the interviewer that he loves hearing the line and he also loves the general fact that he got to be in the movie, stating, “I’m frankly thrilled about it. I can’t believe that I got to be in The Wizard of Oz, you know what I mean?”
