Why Magicians, Witches, Sorcerers Hide

1. Since the end of witch trials in Europe, more people were executed worldwide for witchcraft than through the entire witch panic (about 200 people per year!)...

2. Magic is based in quantum mechanics and this is a major problem, since quantum effects are dislocal by nature and almost impossible to prove/disprove outside of a lab, while in a lab, the observation level is so high, that the effects are unstable because of interference.

3. Most practitioners don't even know the scientific basis of their abilities. Their ideas of Magic are as inconsistent as the opinions of every esoteric out there.

4. Practitioners with scientific background on the other hand can't write about it, for their credibility would suffer... Even with new fields of research like quantum biology, they would be laughed at and their careers would be over (also good luck trying to find a patreon who funds your studies). My family has Magical background and I'm pretty open about it (I can, I live in Germany), I write scientific texts about Magic (I can, I've not even graduated from University) and there are basicly three groups of people I come in contact with:

- People with a strong believe in science, who tend to have a 'solid' opinion about what is real and what isn't (it's just like a religion, I swear!)

- People with a strong believe in esoterics, who tend to shut you down, when you use the words Magic & science in the same sentence. They fear that they will lose this feeling of magic, if it was outlined scientific. (By the way, Magic just gets more interesting the deeper you dive into scientific explanations!)

- People with strong religious believes, who (if you are not talking to Voodoonsi) tend to like the idea of burning you on a stake.

6. Most People simply don't care for things... New chemical element discovered? Majority doesn't care... New state of matter discovered? Majority doesn't care... Most people start to care, when they feel threatened... And you don't want humans to feel threatened by you!

7. Practitioners don't want to be restricted... if they'd go public, lots of spells and practices would be monitored and restricted by authorities... And if you could harm (or even kill) someone via curse, would you really want everybody to know about it? Like any science, Magic can be used and abused... and like any tool the options for abuse are countless in comparison to the options of putting it to intentional use...

Anonym zusammenhangslosen Kram zu schreiben ist einfach nur peinlich…Three posts in and I regret allowing Anon-Questions…This one says:“What happened?! I am worried about our and more important Sarah’s safety.You can’t be serious? Go get a real job and stop this nonsense. This is just embarrassing!”My answer to this:You should be mor specific: I don’t know who you are, who’s safety you are worried about or which Sarah you mean…The interpretation of your first question is depending on this…Yes I can be… I do not need a “real job”, this “nonsense is well paid. To ask anonymous questions without any context is just embarrassing…Anonymous questions are turned off now! So if you don’t want the world to know, you are interested in this blog, just ask me for privacy and I won’t post your questions but answer them in private :)

Magic, Witchery, Sorcery - Whats the difference?

Most people will use this terms interchangeable (or with weird gender-attributions), but hence my scientific approach and the related necessity to establish a clear terminology, I needed to find general definitions.  My choice of terms from now on is related to the definitions given here: Magic (from now on written like this) describes the general term for this field of study, hence Magic in it’s entirety. In order to understand what seperates different types of Magic, we first have to take a look at their respective type of Nexus (= link/interface between practitioner and utilized energy): Sorcery (or Magica Artes occulta) works with an operational Nexus: Energy is seen as an external force (in some cases conscious and personified) which is manipulated by the practice itself: Symbols, words, materials and systems have inherent magical properties, and will (properly combined at the right time) react in a certain way. Alchemy (at least physical Alchemy), Goetia, Theurgia or Kabballah as well as most other religio-magical practices fall under this category. Witchery (or Magica instrumentorum) works with a coherent Nexus: Magical properties are woven into objects, allowing them to accumulate, release or manipulate energy. Crafting and use of magical items like wands, talismans, amulettes or flying carpets (without or with little use of Sorcery), falls under this category. Magic (or Magica pura, not the same as Magic!) works with an inherent Nexus: Mind and body of the practitioner are the Nexus, enableing them to perform unassisted Magic. Every practice not (primarily) involving Sorcery or Witchery falls under this category. Of course the lines are blurry and every practicioner should combine Sorcery, Witchery and Magic to extend their Magic!

Handmade Ouija Board (aka Witch Board) with instructions on the backside, Planchette and Manual Since traditional Witch Boards are unreliable at best and dangerous at worst, I developed a special configuration implementing various runes (functioning as energetic barrier) as well es two magical circles (a Decagram and a Dodecahexagram) to ensure the safest use possible. Nevertheless a Witch Board is basicly a beacon in the darkness of the universe and attracts entities like a lantern attracts mosquitos and moths at night... What “Magic” means to me...

I descend from a family (or rather two families) of witches: My mothers side stems from Germany (where I reside by the way) and has established ties with traditional Westeuropean Witchcraft reaching back to before the last witch trials. Not that our lineage is as widley known as some others, but that’s the main reason it didn’t end burning on stake... My father on the other hand is of Afro-Brazilian descent and was partly initiated into Candomblé (a religio-magical practice derived from mingled traditions brought to the new world by african slaves, just like Haitian Voodoo or New Orleans Hoodoo) by my great-grandmother, who was a witch-doctor in her favela... I do also have a strong scientific background based in my never ending curiosity in our worlds mechanisms and the analytical mindset that allows me to uncover them. So I grew up doing, what every scientist, confronted with two seemingly opposing theses that nevertheless seem to be true, would do: I took those theses and developed them into a synthesis. What came out of this ongoing process is a definition of Magic that is consistent with Noether’s Theorem and therefore the laws of thermodynamic and additonal all interpretations of the quantum field theory (at least on a philosophic level, the math has to be figured out by individuals more capable than me). I don’t say that I’ve got scientific prove of Magic, but I do say, that I’ve developed a thesis of Magic which is plausible in a scientific sense. To all those out there, who say that science and Magic/spirituality don’t fit together, either because they feel that Magic is defined by not being explainable by science or because they fear Magic to be the prove that reality is not as clearly defined as they would like it to be, I understand you... it’s very comfortable to do so... but also... you are victims of your limited frames of reference...  Magic does not become profane if analyzed scientific... Wind, waves, life and the whole universe didn’t become less impressive after science discovered a considerable amount of their underlying mechanics, did they? Neither will Magic become less impressive, I can assure you! Science is not about knowing all the right answers, it’s about asking all the right questions. And to the hardcore sceptics... If you consider yourself to be scientific, it’s your duty to consider my thesis, to analyze and criticize it. As it is my duty to consider your criticism and adjust my theory. That’s the only way it can grow strong and maintain it’s scientific plausiblity. (Also it’s the basis of scientific conversation...)

Now to my General Definition of Magic:

Magic is any replicable manipulation of energy that leads to a predicted configuration of any part of the quantum field.

You may have noticed, that this definition doesn’t exclude technology designed to manipulate energy to configurate a part of the quantum field (e.g. CERN’s Large Hedron Collider). This may seems strange, but it’s logical, hence any sufficient enough technology is indistuingishable from Magic and vice versa. Or, to put it in the words of philosopher Tommaso Campanella (1568-1639): “Everything scientists do in imitation of nature or to help it, by the means of an unknown craft, is called Magic.” With this, you’re invited to join me on my study of Magic and to uncover where it originated, what it is and what it could become!
