#why are there like 9839382 alternate timelines where these guys are Not happy. — Because 😇 did you notice the only timeline where they are both happy and had never experienced trauma is where they don't even know each other? the one they never met? the one vien's mother never died and she got to stay with her family, grown into a village chief after her father and live a good life? the one where astarion was never turned into a spawn by cazador, forced to work for him for years and years? do you see where im going with it?

to make this post a bit nicer, i will say that they do! live a fairly nice life post-game. i think vien introduces him to her parents at some point. like yeah, that's my boyfriend. yes he's a vampire NO DONT KILL HIM PLEASEEE HES A GOOD MAN!!! oh gods thank you. they probably meet with their friends when they have the ocassion. they learn how to live again, and they heal, and it's not linear and it's hard and painful and just so terrible at times, but there are days where things are better, and days where things are just ok, and soon the days where things are bad become less and less.

(there's a moment where her parents... die. they were just humans, their lifespans incomparable with vien's— especially with astarion's. the first time vien truly realizes she's going to outlive her family, when her mom jokes about her declining health and how she's probably going to kick the bucket soon, vien... truly, truly doesn't know what to do with herself. she doesn't know.)

some day they probably find a way back to vien's village and vien gets to reunite with her father. it's bittersweet. vien is no longer the little girl his father used to know, and neither he is the same person. he doesn't know how badly vien was hurt by life and she... doesn't tell him, no, keeps that part of herself away, but at least they are reunited.

astarion and vien probably stay in that village for longer tbh. it's not a very sunny place! good for astarion! and i like to think it happens like. MANY many years post game so i guess both astarion and vien are doing... better mentally. at that point. so yeah. they are doing Okay post-game. no need to KILL ME AGAIN!!

some time ago i was thinking about what if i were to write a vienstarion fic and how it would look like... and really this entire fic would rely on astarion's pov being the main pov. because hear me OUT

vien's the kinda person to keep lot of things to herself, so writing it in her pov (especially the early parts of the story) would reveal so much about her-- but especially it would reveal her true feelings about people (and especially astarion!) and i just... don't think it would have the same effect as revealing it later on. you read the story and create an image of vien only to learn just how much of it was an act and yes, it comes off as a surprise but truthfully, something has been off about vien lately anyway. even the greatest actor can act without any slips only for this long, after all.

the reveal of her backstory would also be when the story switches to vien's pov! okay, she gets forced by the circumstances to talk about things and the next chapter(s?) is all about her backstory, what happened to her. starting from the day she got kidnapped and her mother died, the abuse she went through, her escape, you know...

and the next chapter or two would be a retelling of important scenes from the previous chapters, but from vien's pov to gain new perspective on hers and astarion's relationship, but to also see how her feelings evolved. obviouslyyy it would include extra scenes that astarion's pov didn't include (like an aftermath of some of the scenes) BUT!! also completely new scenes of vien interacting with other companions!

vien's hangouts with the girls <3 bothering gale to tell her about magic because she genuinely finds it interesting, planning the next steps of their journey with wyll (or just hanging out with wyll. i love this guy so much), just to show how vien is around other people than astarion, with who... she sure has interesting dynamic. traumatized people smh.

and hm. i think after that the pov would just alternate between them tbh whoever's pov fits the scene more. vien is surprisingly hard to narrate when i think about it because so much of her character is Hiding Things From People. idk but i'm just saying things. do you guys see the vision. yes or yes

give her five minutes and she will start fidgeting. give her ten minutes and she will try to look for something to busy herself HAHA vien prefers to busy herself with literally anything than just sit and do nothing. helping her caretakers (that she calls parents!), playing at the taverns, hanging out with friends, just busying herself with literally anything she can find… yeah!

how easy is it to earn their trust?

haha. it’s very hard to earn her trust fully. i believe that once you prove yourself to vien that you won’t betray her and that you’re worthy of that trust, she will relax around you and trust you, but it takes time! and not many achieve her full trust anyway. for example, as much as she trusts the companions, only wyll and astarion know what happened to her and even then, she didn’t want to tell them anyway– they pretty much learned by an accident. she’s also incredibly closed off which is kinda hilarious if you just… look at her. the bard who can’t seem to stop talking sometimes? closed off? rarely honest with people unless she knows it won’t risk anything? crazy to think about!

so, in general i think once you prove yourself to her she will trust you, but to gain that emotional trust, for her to truly open up about her feelings… that. might be super hard to achieve.

how easy is it to earn their mistrust?

…tbh. she doesn’t trust people at all actually LMAO in the way that she’s super wary of people, but never lets it be known. she will watch you like a hawk, waiting for a single reason to prove her wariness, but the moment you look at her, she will smile at you as if nothing. she’s this kind of a person i think. so i don’t think it’s that hard to have her distrust you!

how do they speak? is what they say usually thought of on the spot, or do they rehearse it in their mind first?

she’s… both? she does watch her words and carefully picks how to talk, what to say to people, but when she feels like she has nothing to lose or risk, she lets herself become more comfortable. i guess she just also learned how to appear… natural to people? so it doesn’t seem like she’s constantly putting on a front. and she is quite often. she’s not really straightforward and usually keeps things to herself to not get on people’s bad sides, especially at the beginning of the bg3 story i think. but she learns to relax with time it’s okay <3 though i think she never gets truly honest and free with her thoughts, always keeping something to herself

but also, if vien doesn’t say something stupidly poetic at least one day, is it really vien? HAHAHAHAH her being a bard is kinda interesting though… i digress but one of the ways she used to entertain people back at the Evil Place would be by playing music! and after she escaped, she was forced to use it as a way of survival. music, flirting and pickpocketing music to be exact. after she found a place to stay she kinda… stopped playing music altogether and first had to learn how to truly enjoy it again. she does now! plays music and tells stories at the fireplace for the companions every night actually.

what makes their stomach turn? 

people not respecting her (or her friend’s) autonomy is a strong one for obvious reasons. people making sexual remarks to her is, also, a strong one for, also, obvious reasons! in general people flirting with her, especially men can cause her great discomfort, but also… her flirting with people can cause it too. which, god, is ironic given how her relationship with astarion looks at first. or in general. many times she felt disgusted with herself because of that… aha.

and i also think she might not be the best with blood HAHA or gore in general. she never really liked hunting at home after all! but she’s ok, she just needs to take an extra long bath after a longer battle HAHAAHSJ and not look too much at dead stuff. yeah! vien what are you doing dating a VAMPIRE out of everyone. 

how do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? are they supportive?

yes!!!! very!!! she’s always happy when her friends are excited over something!!!! well. unless it’s astarion being excited over something questionable HAJAHSH but no i think unless her friends are excited about something objectively bad, vien is always ready to support them!

how sensitive are they to their own flaws?

flaws what flaws she has no flaws /j HAHAHA well, she knows she has flaws and she’s usually very aware of them, but she also doesn’t spend too much time thinking about them. like, okay, whatever. it is what it is. 

but i’m sure with some things she would really love if they changed. still, for the longest time she somewhat lacked that motivation to do something about herself (and even after escaping and settling down, she still found herself quite miserable). however, with the whole tadpole business, some things did change. for the better. yay!

how do they feel about children? 

she’s neutral about them! but still finds them cute. adorable even. as long as they aren’t being annoying HAHA she probably babysit a few times… and you know, she’s fairly okay with kids. she can play for them! or tell a story. but if she were to handle a kid for a longer time, i do think she would be… not enjoying it that much. like no offense to kids, but they can be hard to take care of sometimes!

although i don’t think she would be having kids any time soon anyway. not only she has… well. unresolved issues about intimacy in general, there’s also. well! astarion! unless they steal a kid from the street then maybe. i kinda think that’s what happens in the Very Far Future AU i have of them. they steal a kid kinda. yeah!

also funfact. i digress again. although physically she is an adult and all, she has yet to reach the “elvish societal adulthood” and back at home in her village, she was still treated kinda like a teenager would. and how crazy it must have been, one day to be spoiled by your parents rotten because you are their little daughter, and the next day everyone sees you as a grown woman and make you do things you don’t want to. literally definition of having to grown up WAY too fast. sorry for the horrors!

how badly do they want to reach their end goal? 

if it’s really important then a lot! she was willing to do anything to escape from the Evil Bad Guy, but also… once she got punished for a failed attempt (she really hates looking at her scarred back. it brings her back so many memories she wished she could forget.), she kind of… stopped trying for some time. she needed to take some time and come up with another plan, find another chance to escape. so yes, a lot, but also she’s not the person to rush and risk things! she prefers careful planning. i also don’t think she would be willing to hurt anyone to achieve her goals, unless it’s a necessary thing. in general i don’t think she enjoys unnecessary sacrifices for any sake, even hers!

midnight: What keeps your OC up at night? Do they have nightmares? Fears? Anxieties? What do they do in the small hours of the morning when they should be sleeping?

mistake: What's the worst mistake your OC ever made? What led to them making it? Have they been able to fix it? How have they moved on?

monster: Is your OC monstrous in any way? Is there something that makes them monstrous? Are they aware of their own monstrosity? Do they accept it or reject it?

1. What kind of person is your OC in a crisis? Are they calm and collected? Do they panic? Or are they chronically the cause?

2. Is your OC a loner or a social butterfly? Are they satisfied with how they come across to other people?

3. What is your OC's financial status? Are they just scraping by, making enough to live comfortably, or wealthy? Has there ever been a drastic change in their status? If so, what happened?

4. Does your OC have a failed friendship or relationship they still think about? What happened? Is it an unresolved regret or is there a chance for reconciliation?

5. Does your OC have a signature weapon and/or attack? How long did they train to master it?

6. Does your OC know magic? Were they born with magical ability or did they train to acquire it? What is their favorite type of magic? Least favorite?

7. Does your OC like their natural hair color or do they dye it? What styles do they prefer?

9. Is your OC laid back or do they thrive on drama? What role do they play in their group of friends/associates?
