Don’t start playing the “I travel alone” card, or “Jaskier, it’s too dangerous” card.

Never letting you go
Prompt: “You may regret ever leaving your home, but I’m going to thank you for it anyway.”
“Why?”
“Because that choice allowed me to know you." (from @givethispromptatry - tysm for this one lmao, it saved me)
Pairing: Geralt x Jaskier
Warnings: violence mention (very light)
Category: Fluff
A/N: I wrote this last night in a discord channel at 11pm, I hope you'll all enjoy 😂 thank you @horsedadgeralt for being my beta, this would have been full of typos and very obvious that this was written by a tired brain lmao
Word Count: ~800
🌿---------------------------------------------🌿
The first time Geralt set his eyes on this man was the first time he had felt such grand curiosity and interest in someone in what had been years.
He wasn't the person he'd ever want to be with, he gave him a headache whenever he was around.
That bard's mouth would never stay closed, it always had words fleeing from it. The boy would never run out of air, as if he wasn't even human. He didn't seem like it, he never ran out of fuel; even when Geralt was as cold as ice.
The bard would even speak to himself or make up answers the Witcher would have possibly said if they had an ounce of interest in his narrative, but, although it would bother him, never did he wish for his disappearance. Never did he wish for that boy, Jaskier, to vanish from his sight; the boy allowed him to take a break from his cruel and restless adventure.
As annoying as he was, the bard would bring something else in his life to hold on to. Who would have thought the cold and emotionless Geralt of Rivia would ever feel something, let alone for a living person?
Never was he supposed to feel something, nor care about anyone other than himself and his horse. He'd never cared as much for anyone, never thought he'd need anyone.
If anyone had spoken to him about this loud and energetic boy; perhaps he would have laughed in their face or left to cease to hear such jokes.
Geralt could have killed Jaskier by now. But he was still there. Still by his side. Still speaking to no end, singing songs about his adventures, telling him about the same story he had just heard last week, and Geralt never dared to remind him about the repetition. He'd never dare make him sad; so he listened.
The Witcher wouldn't trade anything for him. If he were to make a choice between a nation and him, well, to hell the people.
Leaving that bard would make him nothing else but a fool.
A complete idiot who would just ruin part of his life. He'd rather end his life than live the rest of it without him. He could say he was one of the reasons why he hadn't made a reckless choice. Why he hasn't given up when life has thrown him nothing but death.
He heard that same song, over and over, again and again. He could even start to sing it, but it'd never sound the same. Not as good as the bard. It wouldn't feel the same. He'd probably ruin it, along with everyone else's poor ears.
He had already been told by the singer himself that Geralt singing it would be the most amazing, that he would want nothing else but to hear it, but he kept it off for later; when the thought of singing would not make him want to punch his own face.
So he sat there, hearing him sing. Doing his little show, with applause at the end after threatening in advance those who disliked it and would have the idea to throw bread at him, that he wouldn't hesitate to get blood on his hand to defend Jaskier.
It made him happy to see him so joyful when he came back to Geralt, sitting beside him.
"So, how about today?" a voice asked.
"Huh?" he snapped out of his thoughts.
"Didn't you pay attention? I've been talking for....one or..." Jaskier hesitated. "...a lot of time."
"I was thinking," Geralt answered.
"Is that all that you do all day?"
"I thought of you. Wouldn't that make you happy usually?"
He smiled. "Glad you saved a spot for me, your head seems a bit crowded up there."
"Your song was good, also. As always." he said. Another smile appeared on the boy's face.
"Well, I'm glad. Thank you, Geralt," he answered, as the witcher nodded in return. "That's one of my favorite ones. It mainly does speak about me, but it's about me speaking about you, so you're in it."
"One of the best. I'll always appreciate the thought," he said. "Glad you saved a spot for me in your head." he repeated, feeling a small smile grow on his face as he looked at Jaskier; thinking of a particular memory.
The bard looked at him, curious as to why he had started staring at him. "What is it?"
"I was.... just thinking again of when I saw you, a while ago," he replied.
"You mean, our first encounter?" the boy guessed.
Geralt nodded. "I know... That it's not the most joyful thing to think about but..." He hesitated. "Just know that no matter how much you may regret ever leaving your home; I'll always thank you for it."
"Why?"
Geralt smiled, as his hand touched the tip of Jaskier's fingers. “Because that choice allowed me to know you."
