a startling revelation
this a Jason Todd x male oc fic.
Summery: Jason and Micheal (oc) come back to the manor to find Duke and his classmates working on a group project. but what happens when Micheal cousin sees him holding hands with famous billionaire son Jason Todd isn't of Red Hood.
Aka: the power of gay outs Jason's vigilante live to high school conspiracy theorist.
The pair walked hand in hand the door of the manor swinging shut behind them as they walked down the hall. Micheal spoke looking up to Jason with a smile as he talked rambling about some new baking recipe he had tried, Jason simply nodded along as he spoke.
Chatter filled the rooms of the manor the day to day squabbles of the members and siblings bickering over things. Upon walking into the room the pair spot Duke sitting at the dining room table with a group of classmates working on some sort of group project, textbooks and notebooks spread across the table with a laptop open displaying the criteria. Duke was sitting next to a blonde kid with two people sitting across from them, one very much to Micheals dismay was a very familiar brunette, Danielle Page, his cousin.
Micheal grabs Jason's hand a little tighter attempting to tug the man out of sight when he locks eyes with Ellie. Micheal froze watching as her gaze flicked from him to Jason to their intertwined hands then back up to him. He could see the gears turning behind her glasses as she analyzed the situation and had likely come to one of two conclusions. A. Micheal was cheating on the notorious crime boss and known ruthless vigilante Red Hood,or B. Jason Todd was Red Hood. Now Micheal could be stupid but not that stupid, a dawning of realization goes over Ellies face.
“Well fuck.” Micheal muttered under his breath bringing his unoccupied hand going up to run through his shaggy umber hair. Yep we’re definitely screwed he thought to himself looking from the knowing look Ellie gave to the confused look on Jason's face at Micheal’s tone.
“So uh you guys know each other?” The silence is broken by Duke who looked even more confused at the wordless standoff. Micheal schooled his expression of “oh shit” to one of mild tension while Ellie seemed to still have a mischievous look.
“Just a little bit.” Micheal replied looking to Duke at his question.
“A little bit.” Ellie echoed in response.
“She’s my cousin, we grew up together.” Micheal supplies, deciding to expand upon his reply given Duke's confused look. Duke gives a nod of acknowledgement turning back to his project while Jason seems to have a moment of realization at the previous standoff between the two cousins.
“I just ya know, wasn’t expecting her to see her here is all.” he states hoping his boyfriend would buy it but much to the look on Jason’s face it appeared he did not.
“Right.” Jason replied, giving Micheal a look that reads ‘we’re talking about this later’ with a second underlying message of ‘we’re so fucked’.
Micheal gives a faint nod of agreement at the unspoken statement and glares over at Ellie seeing her look and where this would definitely be going. ‘Don’t you fucking dare’ he thinks while Ellie appears to be thinking ‘oh I definitely fucking dare’ as she looks to Jason.
“So is this the boyfriend I’ve heard so much about?” she asks, teasing evident in her tone knowing damn well Jason was who she thought he was.
“Ellie.” Micheal groans in response, a mix of panic and embarrassment at the situation.
“I think we need to have a chat.” Jason says, pulling Micheal closer to him and nodding for Ellie to follow.
Jason led Micheal out of the room trying to mentally deal with the fact that a highschool student had managed to figure out his identity and that said highschool student was his boyfriends cousin. He couldn’t exactly go all Red Hood in this case scenario.
Ellie noticed the slight panicked look her cousin was giving off, quickly replaying what she said she panicked, wait, shit, did she just out Jason to Duke? Does Duke already know? She shot a glance over at her classmate who was looking between his adoptive brother and her cousin leaving the room.
“I’ll be right back,” Ellie quickly left the room following the two. She ran what she knew about Duke and the rest of the Wayne family. She knew Duke was chill definitely, he knew she was Aro/Ace and never made any deal over it. And Mr Lynx was openly Pan. But would Red Hood, who had been known to be not quite allies with the rest of the Batman vigilantes, tell them he was attracted to men?
Jason had guided the pair into the library and pushed Micheal to sit in a chair gesturing for Ellie to do the same in the chair across from them. Jason stood leaning against Micheal, arm resting on his shoulder using his height to his advantage silently watching like the edgy bastard he was as he analyzed Ellie and how to go about this situation. Micheal was panicked but somewhat amused at Jason’s behaviour, he gives a tug on Jason’s jacket in response but doesn’t try to make him and talk like a normal person he instead just leans back against him opting to let him take the lead.
“I am SO SORRY!” Ellie blurted. Jason paused in his fruitless intimidation tactic. “PLEASE tell me Duke already knows you're gay?!”
“Bi,” Jason interjects. “But yes, he does.” he states, noticing the panicked expression. He drops a hand at his side, raising an eyebrow. “Is that really your biggest concern right now? You just found out information dozens of people would love to get their hands on, and you're worried about that?”
“Oh thank god!” Ellie exclaimed, ignoring Jason once again, brushing her bangs out of the way of her glasses, she felt relieved to know she didn’t just out the Red Hood to his family- wait family? “Hey wait a second I thought your dad was Batman?”
“Joint custody?” Jason quickly replies though it came out as more of a question then a statement in his panic to come up with a quick reply.
“Wait but you were robin before right? The second one? But that was when you were a kid? Did Mr. Wayne know you were-” Ellies ramble fell short looking at Micheal and Jason. “Wait but- there’s know way-” Ellies hands fell from her space buns as a thought popped into her head. A very disturbing thought. “Is- is Batman Bruce Wayne?! Wait, but theres no way Batman is just a cryptid, theres no way hes just, a guy, but then wait if you’re the second robin then first robin must have been Dick Grayson and the-” Ellies rant was cut short by Micheals hand quickly covering her mouth.
“We’re going to play the shut up game now.” he said. Ellie licked his hand. “ Ew! You little Shit!” Micheal removed his hand wiping the saliva off on his shirt.
“Anyways, we’re gonna take off the tinfoil hat now and sit down and talk.” Micheal added putting his hand out in a placating gesture. “We’re going to sit down and talk.” he states again looking over to Jason hoping to get his boyfriend to act like a civil person for once in his life.
Jason huffs in response but pulls up a chair sitting next to Micheal giving a short nod as he crosses his arms over his chest. “I don’t remember her being so crazy the last time we talked.” he says leaning over to whisper to him.
“Everybody in Gotham is a little crazy.” Micheal replies “she’s just a little … creative.” he says. Ellie glared at him. “Plus the last time you met you were in the full Red Hood getup, you don’t exactly go all conspiracy theory around an armed vigilante. So not that crazy.”
“And if I do remember correctly the only reason she saw me in my Red Hood ‘getup’ was because she broke into your apartment in the middle of an Outlaws meeting.”
“She needed help with an assignment.”
“She broke in through the fire escape.”
“Doors are overrated” Ellie interjected.
“That's besides the point.” Micheal says trying to reign the conversation back in, he places an arm around Jason’s shoulder. “She is perfectly stable and isn’t going to tell anybody about this, right Ellie?” Micheal says with an exacerbated look on his face.
“I’m so stable you could park a horse in my brain” Ellie said quickly quoting a tumblr post she saw.
Micheal in turn groans at the pun “you know what you can shoot her.” he replied sarcastically rubbing his hands over his face and a finger lightly following the scar over his eye. “Just stop making up conspiracy theories about my boyfriend's family, go psychoanalyze the Flash or something.”
“Ok well we know the Flash is human he stated that he wasn't born like that in a press interview like a decade ago-” Ellie started to ramble off immediately sidetracked.
“I swear to the Gods if you go off on another one of your tangents I’m telling Lynx you copied Duke's homework on your last essay, just don’t tell anybody and go finish your group project.”
Ellie threw her hands up in a half surrendering gesture, “ok, ok, we’ll talk about this later though” she replied getting up and walking back to where Duke and the others were working.
Micheal lets out a breath and drops his head against Jason’s shoulder watching as Ellie left. “Bruce can never find out about this.”

ANUBIS
WHO IS HE?
Anubis, also known as Inpu and Anpu in Ancient Egyptian mythology, is the god of funerary rites, protector of graves, and guide to the Underworld, in Ancient Egyptian mythology, usually depicted as a canine or a man with a canine head.
BASIC INFO:
Appearance: in Egyptian mythology, Anubis is typically depicted as a jackal-headed deity or a man with the head of a jackal. He is often depicted wearing a loincloth and holding a flail or a pair of scales. The jackal head represents Anubis' role as the guide to the Underworld, while the flail and scales represent his role as the judge of the dead. Some later representations of Anubis also show him holding a scepter, which is a staff symbolizing power and authority.
Personality: he is often portrayed as a serious and mysterious figure. He is known as the guide and guardian of the Underworld, and he is responsible for helping the dead on their journey to the afterlife. Anubis is also depicted as just and fair, using his scales to weigh the heart of the deceased against the Feather of Ma’at to determine their worthiness for the afterlife. Despite his association with death and the Underworld, Anubis is also seen as a protector and guide for the living, and he is believed to help those who call upon him for protection and guidance.

Siblings: Horus, Babi, Sopdet, Wepwawet, and Bata
Partner: Anput and Nephthys
Children: Kebechet
MISC:
• Flail: the flail is associated with Anubis because it was believed to have been used by him in the process of mummification. In ancient Egyptian mythology, the flail was a tool used to separate the body of the deceased from its wrappings. It was also associated with the idea of balance and justice, as the flail had two heads that were believed to represent the balance of life and death. In some depictions, Anubis is shown holding a flail in his hands as a symbol of his role as a judge of the dead.
• Crook: it was a staff with a curved end and was used by shepherds to guide their flocks. In Egyptian mythology, the crook was associated with the god Osiris and later with Anubis as well. It was believed to represent Anubis' role as a shepherd of souls, guiding the deceased through the afterlife and protecting them from danger. Additionally, the crook was seen as a symbol of authority and power, as the pharaohs were often depicted carrying one as a sign of their divine rule.
• Sceptre: in ancient Egypt, a sceptre was a staff that was carried by the pharaohs and gods to symbolize their power and authority. For Anubis, his sceptre was known as the Pesesh-kef Sceptre, and it represented his role as a guide and protector of the dead. The Pesesh-kef was a symbol of his status as a god and was used to perform rituals and ceremonies related to the afterlife. It was also believed to have healing or magical properties and was sometimes buried with people to protect them on their journey through the afterlife.
• Jackal: Anubis is often depicted with the head of a jackal, which is one of the reasons why jackals are associated with him. Jackals were considered scavengers and were known to be present in the deserts where many Egyptian burials took place. For this reason, they were believed to have been closely associated with death and the afterlife. The jackal was also said to have the ability to navigate the underworld, which further strengthened its association with Anubis, who was considered the guide and protector of the deceased in the afterlife.
• Mummy gauze: the material used to wrap and bind the mummies of the deceased. Anubis, as the god of mummification and the afterlife, was closely associated with the practice of mummification and often depicted holding rolls of mummy gauze as a symbol of his role. In addition, mummy gauze was believed to have magical or protective properties, and some Egyptians would use it as a talisman to keep themselves or their loved ones safe from harm. As a result, mummy gauze became a potent symbol of Anubis' power and connection to the underworld.
• The colour black: often associated with death and the underworld, this is likely because of the dark, fertile soil of the Nile River banks, where many Egyptian burials took place. Anubis, as the god of death and the afterlife, was closely associated with the Underworld and the process of mummification, which required the use of black resin and tar. As a result, the color black became a powerful symbol of Anubis and his domain, and was often used in paintings, carvings, and other representations of the god.
FACTS ABOUT ANUBIS:
• He likes metal music (especially black metal), dark crystal jewelry, gothic style, and dark coloured sports cars.
• In the Egyptian Book of the Dead, it is said that Anubis weighs the heart of the deceased against the Feather of Ma’at to determine their worthiness for the afterlife.
• Anubis was regularly invoked for protection as well as vengeance.
• He helped Iris bring Osiris back from the dead.
• His time of day is dusk.
• Anubis is very caring and kind to his worshipper.
• The name “Anubis” is the Greek form of the Egyptian name “Anpu” which means to decay.
• He is not a demon or evil entity.
• Anubis was said to be the creator of embalming.
• The Greeks associated Anubis with Hermes, the Greek god who guided the dead to the afterlife. The two would be joined together to create Hermanubis, making him more accessible to non-Egyptians.
• A very sweet entity and only wishes to help guide people in the right direction.
• He knows the date of everyone’s death and may be petitioned to reveal it.
• Anubis is one of the oldest Egyptian gods.
• He is represented by the colour black.
HOW TO WORK WITH ANUBIS:
Connect with Anubis as you would any other deity—with profound respect and gratitude. He selects devotees who are willing to face their shadows, and who aren’t afraid of spirts and death. Come to him with a pure heart and pure intentions.
To work with him, you can: read about him, create sacred altar space for him, leave offerings for Anubis in his sacred space, call him by his real name Anpu (to decay), research the mummification process and purpose, explore your beliefs about death, do shadow work and ritual work with him, and visiting cemeteries.
PRAYER FOR ANUBIS:
"Oh great and powerful Anubis, Lord of the Dead and guide of souls, I call upon you now in this moment. I honor and respect your wisdom and strength, and I seek your guidance and protection on my journey through this life and into the next.”
“Please bless me with your presence and wisdom as I embark on this new path. Show me the way to make the choices that will lead to a good and honorable life, and give me the courage to face the unknown with bravery and confidence.

DEVOTIONAL ACTS FOR ANUBIS:
• Honour the dead and your ancestors
• Leaving flowers on graves.
• Support orphans and the homeless.
• Act as a guide for someone.
• Live your life as if it was your last (mindfully).
• Volunteer in cleaning cemeteries or in your local mortuary.
• Dress in neutral and dark colours.
• Collect animal bones. Clean then and breathe life into them (do so ethically, killing animals for bones is a blatant disrespect for Anubis, the animal, and the law).
• Adopt unwanted animals (the ones who are critically ill or are of old age) and give them the best life before they pass.
• Wearing black clothing in his honour.
• Volunteer or donate to local dog shelters.
• Research him.
• Get involved with spirit work.
• Practice divination; in the Papyri, Anubis is noted to be an intermediary for divination.
• Get into herbology: his priests were skilled herbal healers and dealt with many herbs during the mummification process.
• Draw, paint, or sculpt something in his honour.
IS IT SAFE TO EAT OR DRINK AN OFFERING I GIVE TO HIM?
It is generally considered unwise to consume an offering given to Anubis because it is believed that doing so goes against the spirit of the offering and may even be considered disrespectful to the deity. In Egyptian culture, offerings were often left to the gods and goddesses as a token of respect and devotion, and were not meant to be consumed by mortals. Additionally, there is often a cultural or symbolic significance attached to the offering. For example, food and drink may be left as an offering to sustain the deity, while a more symbolic item such as a statue or a piece of jewlery may be left as a symbol of reverence and veneration.
