props again to hugh dancy because I dont believe any other actor could've portrayed this much emotion in 2-3 seconds. the shift of focus in his eyes, the way his jaw relaxes but he smiles just a little bit from hannibals hand on his cheek and implies a little hope for a kiss. happy belated pride and whatnot

I’m so excited to share this with you guys. This is my first case fic and it’s gonna be SUCH a wild ride!! It’s crime procedural, canon-typically violent, cheap motel-littered, ultra-yearning GOODNESS, I promise…

It started out life as an idea by @thesilenceofthewrathfullamb, and over the past few weeks (months??) we have plotted and planned and schemed so intensely until it somehow became a 60k word, seven chapter fic :3 I still can’t believe it’s even real!

Here is chapter one. I still have some editing and tweaking to do, but I’m pretty confident I’ll be updating weekly ✨

A string of child murders bring Will and Hannibal on the road together. Between long drives, cheap motels, and unspeakable violence, something raw and undefineable begins to take shape between them.

PREVIEW:

When Will looks at Hannibal, he catches an expression on his face that’s both unfamiliar and raw. It could be disgust, but it seems more incendiary than that, more volatile than revulsion. Beneath the calm surface, a storm churns; a rage barely contained, thrashing just under the skin. Then Hannibal’s eyes meet Will’s and the tempest dims to a faint glow, replaced by a small, almost tender smile. The shift is so swift, so delicate, Will wonders if he ever truly saw it at all.

“You don’t have to do this, Will,” Hannibal says quietly, “We can work this out without you having to see it through our killer’s eyes.”

Will blinks, inhales slowly, then exhales with a sharp, almost bitter sigh. Lately, Hannibal’s warnings have been unmistakable — he doesn’t want Will to drown in these cases. He’s been urging him to step back, to protect what fragile balance remains of his mind.

“No,” he replies firmly, “I need to. I have to.”

Hannibal’s jaw tightens at the hinge, silent but strained. They both know Will is edging toward a breaking point, yet they allow it, because sometimes necessity outweighs caution. Will understands this is where he belongs, where his purpose lies. He’s determined to do what’s right, to carve meaning from the darkness, even if it leaves him hollow and raw beneath the surface.

“Would you prefer me to step out for a moment?” Hannibal continues, a hand resting lightly on the doorknob as he waits for instruction.

Will’s gaze drifts back to the body as he fishes in his pocket for aspirin, dry swallowing two pills to combat his creeping migraine. He’s always faced this alone, it’s how it’s worked best, but now, something shifts. Will isn’t prideful by nature, he doesn’t want to show off. He wants… Security. Or perhaps even a witness. Someone he trusts, just in case he loses himself again. He wets his lips, then meets Hannibal’s soft, expectant eyes.

“You can stay,” he says eventually, before turning away. He takes a slow and cleansing breath, then lets his mind work unfettered.
