His arc is not a redemption. Wanderer himself does not wish to be redeemed. His current goal is to pursue those who have wronged him. And he accepts that he might one day pay for his past actions at the hands of those he has wronged.
Nahida chose him in the championship to oversee the competition from the shadows. He helped Tighnari, and he helped Kaveh. He never sabotaged the contestants.
Someone else has said this, but to seek a redemption for the Harbingers would be acceptance for them that there is nothing wrong with the world. They willingly chose to be the villains of the story, because"If not us, then who?"
As indicated by Alphonso's letter, too:
"Let me be the evil amidst good, the poison amidst the herbs, the wolf in sheep's clothing, the mercury in a golden chalice, I shall leave my siblings beyond blood, and fight for parents whose blood I do not share."
They are extremists because they see it as a necessity for the greater good of Tevyat, even at the cost of their own lives.
"In this war, not even a single pawn may be spared."
It's also important to remember that the Harbingers themselves are playing twisted roles of their respective commedia counterparts, as implied by Pierro.
"It's time to end tonight's foolish theatrics. Right now, you have no captivate audience."
What this implies is that we don't know the true personalities of any harbingers (except for Wanderer/ arguably), we have seen glimpses of them, sure. But we don't know what lies behind their masks.
Tartaglia plays the role of the stubborn, strong soldier (similar to Capitano), who seeks a challenge wherever he goes. However, his mask came off during his story quest, where it was revealed how deeply he cares for his family's well-being.
Scaramouche played the role of the skirmisher, who taunted the enemy, provocative and mischievous. Until we learned the truth of his background in the interlude. From then on, he dropped the skirmisher and adopted a more passive demeanor, more focused on inner reflection.
Signora played the role of an elegant and astute woman who was in control until our encounter with her. When her mask slipped, it revealed the total sum of her inner turmoil, how the past still haunted and defined her.
Dottore plays the role of the overtly confident scholar. A man who only cares about his experiments and research. However, Nahida's fairy tale gave us a glance at how he views himself: nothing but a lonely monster who has abandoned his humanity.
What do they all have in common, however?
They see themselves as disposable tools to serve a greater purpose. As we have found out through Scaramouche's dismissal, the seats of the Harbingers have existed for hundreds of years. It's easy to assume then that the previous Harbingers have either been killed in action, or killed by some of the current Harbingers holding their respective seats.
A redemption, then, seems incredibly reductive to figures as complex and nuanced as the Harbingers are. They chose to be villains, and in doing so, they have sealed their fate as tragic and unsung heroes.
Childe doesn't need redemption he needs therapy
About Childe's morality, I think his awareness that he is evil is pretty important. It's easy enough to explain his actions as a result of circumstance and I think Childe mains often fall into that, but the awareness of guilt and evil is like... the only thing that redeems it
Because it's like, the thing that's stopping him from going Scaramouche or Dottore or Signora or someone
I don't know what kind of circumstance would allow him to regain his sense of agency, instead of always living and acting for something or someone else... but tell him it's ok
It's ok that he's in this world in ways that he'd rather not be
#genshin impact#genshin analysis#longer than i intended but i love my pookies theyre all so interesting to me#long post#harbinger analysis
