Opinions on the Nations League?
Thanks for the question, anon. We do have an opinion on the Nations League.
UEFA introduced the Women’s Nations League based on the model of the Men’s Nations League, with the goal to eliminate boring friendlies and make games more competitive by introducing a tournament format. On one hand, this makes sense—it’s more engaging for fans and more profitable.
However, for us, this comes with many disadvantages. First, teams have no control over their opponents, meaning they can't strategically choose to face teams with different playing styles in preparation for upcoming tournaments. Additionally, the high level of competition leaves fewer opportunities to experiment with new tactics or include younger, less experienced players since every game is essentially a must-win.
The increased intensity also seems to cause problems for the players. As we’re seeing now, the heightened competitiveness comes with a greater risk of injuries.
So, while the idea of the Nations League sounds great, especially for women’s football, we’re not convinced that UEFA had the best intentions for the players and teams.
The injury list in this International window after Matchday 1 alone:

Danielle van de Donk (Netherlands)
Kika Nazareth (Portugal)
Ingrid Engen (Norway)
Leanne Kiernan (Ireland)
Sarah Zadrazil (Austria)
Geraldine Reuteler (Switzerland)
Sophia Winkler (Germany)
Marie Müller (Germany)
Natalia Kuikka (Finland)
We can't guarantee that the list of injured footballers is complete, but we wish all affected players a speedy recovery.❤️🩹
And now to you, what do you think of the Women's Nations League ?

i love sport. i love the stories. the narratives. arsenal women, a team that didnt even make the group stages last year, through to a champions league final after 18 years, knocking out a team that has won it several times over. won it more than any other team in uwcl history in fact. a team thats never even lost a uwcl semi final before ! arsenals captain, who knows she will have to retire very soon, leading out so many players shes mentored over the past 17 years at the final in lisbon. players who were small children in the arsenal academy when arsenal last won, including the vice captain, will get a chance to win it themselves. then, a player who was frozen out of her previous team by a shitty manager, losing her international squad place because of it, got to come home to her childhood club, start a uwcl semi-final, and fucking shine. a young, inexperienced manager who is in her debut season, essentially only getting the position because her boss suddenly quit last autumn, and who could never have seen this in her future when she was forced out of playing by injury far too early in her own career, comes from behind in a champions league fixture to win against Her Own Former Mentor's team. even almost 2 decades on, arsenal wfc remain "the only in the land" to win a uwcl and now they could do it again ! its just cinematic. sport is Storytelling.

Can we as fans mutually agree that we have no right to tell players which club to join?
We do not know what’s going on behind the scenes, we don’t know if any move has private reasons. They do not owe us any kind of explanation or to “fight for their spot in the starting line-up”.
Some of the rumors and assumptions online are just disgusting.

I don’t think Arsenal played bad today. Chelsea won fair and square but Arsenal put up a fight. For a team that struggled so much this season and just got a new head coach, they really showed that they are on the right path.

Can't believe Renee Slegers has just been announced as head coach and people are already complaining about her. When Arsenal won with her you all wanted her to stay and now everything she does is shit already. Sooo tired of these "fans".

The only reasonable decision!
Renée Slegers isn’t going anywhere, she’s here to stay in North London as the official head coach ! ❤️🤍

Everything Jonas has said recently about him leaving Arsenal only shows how self-centered and immature he is. He refuses to take accountability and severely lacks the ability to reflect.
He's seriously out here hiding behind the fact that the fans wanted him out after the Miedema transfer, when instead the team have consistently underperformed under him this season and videos have emerged of him pushing players around.

This!
Something that doesn’t sit right with me is the treatment of Jess Carter when Englands defense is shaken.
The entire defense can be poor but her name gets thrown around and is named for the mistakes when we lose.
With how some people go about it, you’d think England plays with one defender at the back, and that’s Jess.
It’s starting to look like the criticism is taking a deviation to blatant racism.
Yes, you’re entitled to your opinion and she is going to make mistakes because she’s a human.
But let’s not reduce the fact that she is in fact a phenomenal defender. Moreover, she never gets any praise when she performs like an absolute star either.

potato quality but alexia reaching out to alex greenwood and making sure all is good after the match 🤝
passion on the pitch doesn't translate to hate off of it! 🙏 (something fans should keep in mind too!)

I absolutely agree with most of the criticisms of the players, but some people really don't know how to criticise in an appropriate way and not slip straight into insults that have nothing to do with the game…
