Mari Copeny, aka Little Miss Flint, is raising money to get Flint kids to see Wrinkle in Time.
This past week #TeamMari was able to raise $16,000 for the #BlackPantherChallenge, we were able to buy out an entire theater that seated 150+ kids, every kid that left got a #DearFlintKids project letter, a comic book featuring a hero of color, and special treat. We also gave out exclusive black panther shirts and thousands of dollars of black panther toys and merchendise. Over the opening weekend we also were able to help another 650 kids see Black Panther by giving out movie gift cards and paying for admission.
Next up we have the movie "A Wrinkle In Time" coming out. Directed by Ava DuVernay and starring Storm Reid and Oprah. With the release date of March 9th we have a little over 2 weeks to make this happen so Flint kids can experience the magic of A Wrinkle In Time.
Not often do you see a black girl as the star of a movie, let alone the one who saves the world. I want little girls to be able to watch this movie and be able to see themselves and the potential that they can "save the world" as well. This cast is packed with smart strong women and it is important for young girls to see these images reepresented in all forms of media, espcially on the big screen. A little girl that looks like me is saving the universe.....thats not something we see every day (even though it should be).
In addition to the movie I want to make sure every single child that sees this movie walks away with the novel "A Wrinkle In Time" because books not only take us to places unknown, they empower us to be whatever we want to be. If we raise enough I would also like to give out some of the other A Wrinkle In Time STEAM books that have been hitting shelves in bookstores across America. Even though this is a fantasy movie the idea to dream big and be a hero are there and I want Flint Kids to be able to experience this on the big screen.

Black girls are a storm. Roaring tempests from the moment they come into being. Thunderous and bold. Full of dancing, whirling winds and remarkable energy. Sometimes, they are too much for the world and it will ask them to shrink, to quiet their spirits, and put out their light, but Black girls shine anyway. They amaze me. Join Sisters in the Storm, for the "A Wrinkle In Time" Challenge - a fundraiser to purchase full theaters in eight U.S. cities so that we can fill the seats with Black girls and non-boys to experience this important film together. All proceeds will go directly to purchasing full theaters in the following cities: • Austin, TX • Charlotte, NC • Chicago, IL • Greensboro, NC • Houston, TX • Philadelphia, PA • Plainfield, NJ • Washington, DC

Wrinkle in Time Fundraisers (2/10/2018)
There are currently several fundraisers to help kids see the WRINKLE IN TIME movie.
I will be keeping a running master list of all the fundraisers currently running, but because that’s not rebloggable, I’ll post once a week with the most updated list as well.
Accepting Donations and Not Yet Funded:
Movie Trip by Ms. M (DonorsChoose) - aiming to get 100 middle school students from East Harlem, NY, to see the movie
Wrinkle in Time Trip by Will Vincent (GoFundMe) - aiming to get 97 middle school students from Oakland, CA, to see the movie
Wrinkle in Time fundraiser by Leyauna McGriff (GoFundMe) - aiming to get 15-20 students in Charlotte, NC, to see the movie
.
Reached Goal but Still Accepting More Donations:
Send 1000 Girls to Wrinkle In Time organized by Latonja S Richardson - aiming to send 1000 girls to see the movie (organized by a fourteen-year-old girl, and the amazing start to this challenge!)
.
Not Yet Funded but Not Accepting Donations At This Time:
Help Baltimore Girls see A Wrinkle in Time (YouCaring) - aiming to rent a theatre for 500 girls in Baltimore to see the movie (not currently accepting donations)
.
Please send me an ask if you know of any others so I can signal boost those as well!
#A Wrinkle in Time#Madeleine L'Engle#Ava DuVernay#Storm Reid#Oprah#Mindy Kaling#Reese Witherspoon#IDK what tags y'all track but hopefully some of these?

Lots of kids don’t have the means to get to movies, but they deserve to see themselves on screen.
Ava DuVernay’s movie of A Wrinkle in Time reimagines a beloved award-winning children’s book with heart-stoppingly gorgeous visuals and a fantastically talented, diverse cast.
This Tumblr will be used to signal boost any fundraising challenges we can find to get kids (especially girls of color) to the movie, and keep a dedicated list of what fundraising efforts are already out there.
