Some Lines 🍃🍃
I've been away so long and I know I've been tagged by a few folks but my batteries are recovering from being at like -50% for the past few months so take this as my thank you for all the tags 🥺 Shout out to @sarahlizziewrites @void-botanist @oh-no-another-idea and @tabswrites thank y'all for continuing to include me!
Anyway here, have some lines!
From AASOAF 3:
The vessel disappeared behind a swell, only to pop back up shortly thereafter. With its appearance came the faint sounds of women and babies crying. I hoped, dared, even, to pray, they were hanging onto something as firmly as the occupants of our boat were. And so it went on like that a little longer; us chasing them but never getting close enough to make contact, when finally, by some miracle, one of them spotted us. “HO THERE!” I boomed out over the waves, “WE BEEN FRIENDS, NO FOES!” There was a scramble on decks, but no response.  “Maybe they don’t speak Common!” Mariel offered.  So I tried calling out to them in any tongue I knew. Hamatian, Tlaxlian, Anatolian, Common again, even some broken Elvish I remembered Ophelia teaching me. Still nothing.  “There be nothing for it! Must keep on, full and by!” “Carefully!” “Aye!” I strained against the wind and sea, pulling my weight into my feet and the lines into my chest. The schooner’s yard groaned and threatened itself out of my grasp, as though it were a living thing, speared and gasping for life. I ground my teeth together, brewing a growl in my throat. And then, as a counter to the animal in my hands, a wave threw her head back beneath our keel and the sky opened before our bows.  “BRACE!” We took a nosedive over the wave, itself now a part of an angry churn, which tossed us, peak over peak, until our starboard dashed against the port of the refugee vessel. A torrent of terrified screams washed over our decks as I relinquished the lines with a cry of my own and, fighting against the list of our boat and the violence of the waves, lashed our decks to theirs with a pair of boarding hooks still dangling from my waist. A woman seated close by grasped one of the hooks and desperately tried to pry it free.  “Avast!” I called out as the sea sprayed between us, “I nay been a threat!” “You may not be!” she cried from beneath her veil, a terrified look on her face, “But they are! Please, you must let us go!”
Tagging all the lovely folks mentioned above and anyone else who wants to have a go at this!

Heads up, Seven up
I got tagged by @mrbexwrites here - thank you!
Been writing a bit of Brazen Sparrow lately (just broke 20k words!) so have some pirates being wholesome
"Her face was an absolute picture!" Cady crowed, pulling themself up into the ropes of the mainmast. They hooked a leg over one of the ropes and dangled, letting the rigging hold the weight of their body. "You wish you could have seen it. Looked like she wanted to clap me over the head, she did - 'til she remembered I'm not one of her sailors and she can't go around punishing innocent stable-boys who aren't in the Navy." "Aren't innocent neither," Eliza said, hiding her slight smile behind a rough cough. A laugh bubbled up from the crew who had gathered to hear Cady recount their role in the scheme for the hundredth time. Cady grinned. "Got a lot of mischief to make if I want to catch up to an old seadog like you!" they cackled. Eliza lunged for their ankle with a laugh, forcing Cady to untangle themself and ascend further into the rigging. When they found another position, out of reach of the older sailor, they let their weight hang again, sticking both thumbs in their ears and pulling a face.
I'm going to tag @vacantgodling, @writernopal and @tabswrites - plus if you see this, tag! You're it!

"These days any man who can sew a black flag and get 10 fools to follow him can take a prize. They can take it because of the fear that I and men like me have instilled in their prey. But they can't do what I can do. They're not built for it."

more thoughts about Cora...
i think she's a very no nonsense type. she doesnt like to be used or controlled by ulterior motives.
will react negatively if someone suggests she's a sword for hire even if the purpose for which someone would hire her aligns with her goals or ideas
she's curious but has great regard for magic and the like, so if she senses a great concentration of it or wanders into a place which could be considered consecrated/blessed/steeped in magic, her first instinct is to leave. she believes powers of that strength are best left alone and meant to be left as secrets to the wider world.
she can be very forgiving of people but she doesnt like being lied to
if she happens across a creature the likes of which she hunts, she will kill them on site. this includes fiends, devils, goblins, undead, lichs, vampires, etc.

everyone please meet my new OC, Cora 🥺 i dont know much about her yet, other than she hunts fiends from other realms that come up through the bogs and swamps near where she was born. she's in her mid to late 40s and spends a lot of time in the wilds because of her hunting gig. beekeeping is a hobby of hers so whenever she's out in the world, bees just gravitate toward her. shes known to have had a bee or two just chillin' on her cheekbone.
