The balloons flowed gently on the summer breeze,
The ground shook with the bass of distant bands,
As the fruit piled high trays upon them changed hands,
Their shiny succulence ensured they disappeared with ease.
The cool touch of delicacies beyond my budget’s range,
The kind words of the hostess as the plates refilled,
The laughs and wheezes as the tea is spilled,
The chaos vibrating on winds of change.
I sit in the midst of strangers, quiet as a mouse,
Listening to the thrumming music rolling as thunder ‘neath the moons,
The flashing lights of neon lightning, bottled in the bright balloons—
Things only seen at birthdays at a friend’s friend’s house.

Book ideas: a story about two people in a court case, both claiming to have committed the same crime: the murder of a famous celebrity. The judges are baffled, since both confessions exclude any mention of the other accomplice, claiming they did it alone. Media coverage claims they’re star-crossed lovers trying to take the fall for one another out of true love. In reality, both are hitmen, and they’re arguing over who gets credit for the kill— and with that, the bounty of over a million.
#title: I Shot Cupid#that’s it that’s the punchline#now go listen to the song and a whole new depth will enter the story lmao#writing prompt#book idea#story idea#bounty hunters

my head is slowly spinning
its axis turning ever on
i’m losing or i’m winning
but my sanity’s long gone
the throbbing of my head
seems like it will soon explode
i don’t know what’s been said
my thoughts are on a different road
i wish that i could leave this place,
and do things my own way,
but time seems vaster than all space,
and chained down, here i stay

Some people burn the brighest when they set themselves aflame,
Their passion a hopeful blaze even as they fall apart.
But should you touch the heat and find you're scorched with pain,
Don’t lose yourself in fire if you don’t have a phoenix heart.

So... every couple years, I write a New Year's poem about fireworks. It's nothing special, just a little ballad to the sparkly lights. I haven't actually posted any of them here before that I can remember, so I figured; why not give you guys this year's poem?
Enjoy, and a Happy New Year to you all!
The Lights
T'wasn't the lights that first caught my eye, nor the thick grey smoke, But instead that thunderous boom, like the splitting of an oak. The claps of a thousand hand grenades, of twenty screeming ghosts, Paired with countless fizzing sparks, which went ignored by most.
Then as I strode into the yard, and glanced up to the sky, I saw at once the shooting beams, like comets flying by, They burst and popped like bubbles made of shuriken stars, Their lights outshone the lanterns and even the passing cars. Purples, reds and oranges; greens, blues and even pink, There were so many colours I could hardly even think, I found myself enthralled by their wondrous design, Staring down the tails of fire, I committed them to mind.
The smoke came to me slowly, penetrating first to smell, The scent was sharp and stingy, but I took it fairly well, It hung thick like a curtain, draped over the streets, Shrouding the civilians with their polite meet and greets. I waved at them all distantly and offered them a smile, Then retreated to my room, planning to write a while. Filled with inspiration, and wonder in my gaze, I let myself be drawn to a world beyond this place.
Outside the fireworks pop on, bursting into the night, I smile as their song carries on, and marvel at their light. I know I'm safe within my room, and know I need not fear, So I raise my glass up to the moon and whisper; "Happy New Year"

You are an engineer specialising in repairing robotic androids, in a world where they have gained full awareness, and proclaimed their wish to co-exist with humanity, rather than wage war. Now, damaged androids keep coming to you for repairs, while referring to you as a doctor.

In the end ‘tis just the human race;
Millions battling for first place,
All dashing for the finish line,
Their hearts beating in sync with mine.
I want to win the race so bad,
But there’s more fun that can be had,
When you stray off of the track,
And find the journey racers lack.

For his kindness, the dragon taught the squire the dragon song. A song that was sure to make whoever sang it irresistible to the ladies. In hindsight, the squire should have known that by ladies, the dragon meant lady dragons.
