bill who finally starts talking to someone not long after he and audra start speaking to a marriage counselor. it's their suggestion, which audra encourages, because even if they're not necessarily in love any more, there's still love there. someone who can help, not just the thousands upon thousands who absorb his work and thougtlessly dissect it or thoughtfully discard it. and it's weird, because part of him still feels the way he did Before ( after ) where nothing is actually wrong, he just feels the unyielding pressure to write until his eyes are dry and his hands ache. but he also finally ( once again ) understands why he often wakes up in a panic, why there's a lump in his throat when he writes about a little kid who was sent out alone into the world, why he still talks to his mom even if he doesn't always get the answer he craves. and things do start getting better, eventually
