Btw, this is FAR from getting rid of the land selloff from the BBB. Keep at it. Mike Lee specifically is notable because he's from Utah, the state that's pushed for that sell off very heavily for mining income.

If anyone remembers my post about seeing a local production of Beauty and The Beast here is a sequel to that because I just saw their production of Hadestown and I need to talk about it:

-first and foremost. This was a teen production as are most local productions where I am. So I did take that in consideration going in. But these thirty kids were AMAZING.

-(side note. I did not realize one of the girls in the show was my former bosses daughter. She’s very delightful)

-the kids started trickling on stage about ten minutes before the show. It made the opening a lot less awkward then when I saw the local high school production of it.

-the fates were cool, but there was one, the soprano 2 who WAS the fate. She had such a natural energy it was beautiful.

-the guy playing Hermes was magnificent. Idk if he changed his voice or what but he was speaking like someone much older. But naturally. And his charisma was fantastic

-also with Hermes, when I saw it at the local high school the girl who played the role, while a good performer, didn’t feel like Hermes, she sounded out of place. This guy however took the role and molded it to his voice/acting. Also he dropped a lot of the ‘brother’s that are said which made a huge difference. Again, not bashing the girl she was a very good singer, she was just not a jazzy singer.

-the girl playing Eurydice was so good. She sounded a lot like Eva Nolbezada.

-the guy playing Orpheus was outstanding. His diction needed a lot of work but considering how high he was singing I can give it a pass.

-the Fates harmonies were so perfect I got chills more than once

-the girl playing Persephone was also excellent. She embodied the character

-the dancing was also amazing. They seemed so in synch and professional

-I forget which number but one of the girls lanterns turned on and another girl quick shut it off during a turn and it was so SMOOTH and SEAMLESS a real blink and you miss moment

-I will admit I was rather skeptical of the guy playing Hades. I mentioned to my friend my concerns about who was going to play him and she said “I guess whoever hit puberty first”. Considering these were high school students, I wasn’t expecting any of the guys to have that low of a voice. However the actor had the pipes. Still, for the first bit I wasn’t quite sold. But once they got into the Hadestown, the King Of Hell took over and I took back everything I said and then some. (I do think they should have slicked back his hair because the loosely falling hair did not do him any favors and it would have made him look more put together/professional.)

-the had a turntable on the stage but at certain points of the show the actually turned the faint set piece around which was so cool. That took the whole cast and got applause every time it moved

-they also had a lift down at the front of the stage when going to Hadestown. When Hades and Persephone go Hades appears back on stage not long after and I just KNOW he had to book it

-Wait For Me was fantastic. The lanterns, the curtain with the lights on it slowly getting darker. Orpheus running off stage and through the audience (and coming back through it to find Eurydice)

-During If It’s True, right when they were about to beat Orpheus the music cut out and started to play something else. At one point Hermes came on and said ‘give us just a moment’ and then came back on and said ‘maybe two.” Hades took a seat and started reading his book. Persephone took out her flask. Meanwhile Orpheus kept skirting around the circle around him, trying to find a way out while the workers intimidated him. In short they all handled it expertly and were so professional.

-also the fight choreography? So smooth? So flawless? So convincing? I could have sworn the one girl actually kneed that kid in the stomach. And the tried climbing the set but was pulled down and they caught him. I’ve seen professional adult productions look half as good.

-Wait For Me Reprise. No notes.

-during the Persephone/Hades dance she puts the red flower in her hair and it falls out. I thought it was a mistake and felt bad. But later in Hades gets down on one knee and offers to her. So idk if it was scripted or he has rizz.

-Unlike the high school production, these actually walked, in between the workers hold lanterns

-During Doubt Comes In the Fates we’re lightened only by their lanterns. It made it so much more haunting. And you could see Orpheus smacking his head trying to get them out. Beautiful

-as Orpheus gets closer the backlights turn to a warm yellow

-Eurydice is standing on the lift when Orpheus turns and and it starts to sink. You don’t get to see her face only see her shoulders slump and her knees start to wobble. Which honestly, made me feel like I didn’t miss a thing

-yes people gasped

-Orpheus ran to where she was, picking up the flower and holds it and let’s put the most GUT WRENCHING sobs. My boy was broken. And he cries for so long but it’s not uncomfortable. We were watching his grief.

-it genuinely sounded like the guy playing Hermes was crying. It didn’t really look it but his voice sounded more strained. But it added. So. Much.

-Eurydice and Persephone’s harmony was BEAUTIFUL

-they did their bows before Raise Your Cups, so when they finished singing the lights went out and the show ended.

-Did I mention these were teens? High school aged? But they were so professional.

I’m genuinely thinking of seeing it again tomorrow it was so good.

No, no it shouldn’t. “Run like a business” is shorthand for “cuts corners, preys on consumers, and rewards those who do the most work with the least compensation.”

Schools should not be run like businesses, they should be run like schools — focused on educating students, not making money for shareholders or forcing employees to become de facto customer service agents

Government should not be run like a business, it should be run like a government — spending every last dime it pulls in for the sake of protecting its citizenry and making society more beneficial for all

Businesses shouldn’t even be run like businesses — they should be focused on providing a useful product or service and compensating those that provide that product or service fairly for the work they put in.

I don’t want jack shit run like a business, I want our society to be run like a fucking society. If you want society run like a business, that just tells me where in the business hierarchy you see yourself — the part that does not belong to a healthy society

I'm not like Mad at anyone who does this and I'm obviously not in charge of how anyone else tags shit on their own blogs, whatever, but it's always bummed me out when my sex Ed posts get reblogged and tagged with 18+, minors dni, etc. personally I actually very much want teenagers to learn about their bodies and safer sex but I guess I'm just the guy who wrote the thing.
