“ A tire iron ? ” he paused, frowned. A second later: “ Oh, it’s the metal thing-y, right ? I do, I do. I got that and the thing the raises the car. ” With a small proud smile, Nate reached inside the car, held the tools out towards the other. He might not have known how to fix it but at least he had the right tools for the job.
“ You think you can help me ? ” came next. Nate did not have a very extensive knowledge of tires and the ins and outs of it working, but from his perspective, the tire was destroyed beyond any fixing. “ I apologize for interrupting you in the middle of your run. I just didn’t know what to do. ”
“As long as you’ve got a spare-- yeah, I can help you,” Warren responded, eyeing the tire. He didn’t drive much these days, but when he did he didn’t really have the kind of money to be taking it to a shop every time something was wrong with it-- nor did he really trust anyone with his fancy-ass G-wagon he’d spent every penny of his savings on. It was the only thing that was really, genuinely his. And he liked keeping it in good shape.
It didn’t take him long to get the tire off, despite the way his muscles both ached and felt too loose. By then he was standing up straight, stretching his arms out. “So you’ve just gone this long not knowing how to change a tire?”

Warren held the container of cups close to his chest as he walked, chewing on his lower lip. Raven had been there sort of late, while he was closing up no less, and he didn’t mind making her a drink-- or an extra for himself. It was some weird mixture he’d tried, making both drinks a strange iridescent green. “Um, Well... What’s still open that doesn’t smell like coffee or look like McDonalds?” He asked, reaching up to pull the green visor from the top of his head and rest it lightly on top of hers.
there’s something calming about the city at night, something that raven likes to call home. but it’s also dangerous and she knows that, part of what draws her out during the dark hours of the day. there’s not much out this time of the night but she finds people anyway, wandering up regardless if she knows them. “what’s something you want to do right now?”

Warren had a huge headache-- like a massive one that beat loudly against the base of his skull and made him both excessively tired and beyond stir crazy. And when he got like that he needed to run. It didn’t really matter how long or how hard he ran, it always just helped him calm down.
Right then he was on his fourth mile, chest heaving and burning, despite the chill in the weather he had begun to build up a sweat, and the moment a voice rang in his ears his hands rested on his knees as he leaned down to catch his breath. “hold up,” He mumbled, taking a couple of deep breaths before straightening his large posture, rolling his shoulders back and a hand pushing through dark waves. It took him a moment, but when he realized what the other was saying he gave a quick nod. “You’ve got a tire iron?” he asked voice obviously wary as he elbowed the other out of the way, leaning down to check out the tire in question.
“ hi ! hey ! hello, yes, you, please, help me, i don’t know what to do ! ” maybe asking a random stranger for assistance wasn’t the best option considering it was late at night and he was stranded with a flat tire way too far from home. but then again, nate was desperate, lost and clueless of what to do. unable to ask for help in his current situations. what else could he do, really ? “ i, i have like an extra tire in the trunk and that little round thing i don’t know the name of and— i just, i got flat tire and usually my mom has someone change it for me, so i never really learned how to do it, but my phone is dead— honestly i have no idea of what i’m supposed to be doing and— god, can you please help ? i’m pretty sure if i don’t home by midnight my mom will kick me off the family. ”

“ A guy you dated? Well, now don’t tell me I’ve been barking up the wrong tree! ” She teased with.a wrinkle in her nose. “ Why didn’t you say so? Now I feel like a douchebag for assuming you were into the girlies! ” She snorted at herself. A reprimand tapped the top of her head as she bounced that homework binder at her forehead playfully. “ Gosh, Lulu, you’ve really got to open you mind! ” Perhaps, though, the problem was that she could feel a bit more justified in knowing there were some people out there just as fluid as she was, if not more selective in their partners. “ Meh, there’s always wikipedia for that stuff if you don’t wanna sit around and waste your life on a movie for someone not worth the time. ”
As the rapport continued to build, Lulu grew even more sangfroid. Despite the growing predilection for the boy, the news of the raconteur and the shenanigans he spoke of had her suspicious of him. He was surprising in his own ways, but she could appreciate a fellow who could keep her on her toes. “ So you are a good guy, aint ya? ” She giggled with a wide smile. “ You just suck at picking friends? Don’t ya? Well, honey, you got a big storm a’coming if you think I won’t play a trick on ya. You ever think about how it’d feel to have a glass eye? ” She waited for not even a beat, “ I could help ya find out. Come on, don’t it sound fun. Just a tiny wave. ” She wiggled a couple of fingers his way in a tiny wave, obviously joking.
“Oh, well girls are nice too, I just am not very picky about the whole thing.” ‘The whole thing’ being dating. Warren wasn’t very good at it. He had plenty of exes. Plenty of almosts. And that spoke for itself. Warren was someone who either put far too much into a relationship or not nearly enough and it wasn’t all the time that it would be reciprocated. He was sort of *annoying*.
“I mean, by definition, I don’t think I’m a ‘good guy’, really.” A laugh found itself materializing at his bouncy counterpart. “You’re right though, my friends aren’t all that great. But... I’m trying to get this one guy to be my friend. He’s pretty grouchy but I think he’s really okay. He did kill my dog though, so we have to have some sort of boundaries set cause that shit wasn’t cool.”
He found himself leaning back away from the other a touch, his eyes growing wide. “I think... I would prefer for that to not happen.”

“My roommate is here. You’re not coming inside.” He was lying, of course. Donnie had not heard from Lunetta in some time now. He was definitely NOT worried (a mantra repeated is one that would soon convince him). Slowly, Donnie opened the door and edged out quickly, closing it behind him. He looked up at the gargantuan weirdo. “When will you learn to just leave me alone?” Donnie frowned, heading down the expanse of the hallway, giving Warren a look over his shoulder. “Get moving, Heffalump.”
Warren couldn’t help but quickly follow behind the other, holding the bag close to his chest. “Oh, I didn’t realize, well— you’re the worst at answering texts and I wanted to buy you food. I’m bored.” Warren eventually caught up to the other, falling into step at his side. “Taco Bell?” He offered the bag to the shorter of the two, though it felt more like a white flag.

Realizing his pace was just a bit fast, Warren made his step size a touch smaller. He often forgot how long his proportions where— not many people were as tall as he was, nor were they built the way that he was. He should have been used to wandering glances and commentary, but sometimes he just… forgot
“I’ve just never been one for nerdy shit. Super heroes, comics, dungeons and dragons, Harry Potter— that’s all dork stuff. I dated this guy that was sort of into nerdy things, mostly the anime stuff I guess and that’s pretty cool, but the rest of it is kind of… I don’t know, lame? I couldn’t ever vibe with it.” A shrug. Warren was used to people being surprised at his lack of pop culture knowledge, however. He just couldn’t sit through most movies. They bored him. And comic books were all ruined for him— his sisters had often referred to them as male gazey and sexist and to a degree he had to agree. Not that a males opinion on the matter really had any bearing.
“If, by chance, I run into a Harry Potter stan on my dating quest, I’ll just have to watch the movies and try to understand what the fuck is going on. Won’t I?”
At her obvious frustration Warren found himself stopping in his tracks and having to refrain from ruffling her hair. It was endearing as hell that she just assumed he was a nice guy.
His hands tucked into the pockets of his sweats, an almost bashful shrug as he avoided her eyes.
“Ah, I worked for some not so great people and took the fall on some battery and distribution of illicit substances and like… weapon charges. Not that I wasn’t entirely aware of what I was getting myself into. Just took like almost a year off my life, ya know? Prison is like that.” Warren wasn’t exactly someone who kept this information to himself, in fact he felt obligated to tell people right off the bat that he’d done something bad enough to warrant a court sentence like that.
“It’s no big deal, though. I’m out now and… well, making the same mistakes I think.”
A short laugh as he turned, sweeping a hand through his hair.
“Just don’t turn me to glass alright?”
❛ 𝓁𝓊𝓁𝓊 & wxrnpexce:
Warren had received many commentaries on his height– his general build– all along these same lines. Steroids. Hagrid– whatever the fuck that meant– it wasn’t all that new to him.
However, He did feel sort of bad for ‘Fucking Sydney.’
“For the sake of not getting arrested, I’ll just go with Hagrid, even though I have literally zero clue what that means. I don’t… do popular culture, I guess. I have been told that I’m kind of giant like him, though.” A quick flex of his arm as his hand went around the circumference of the muscles. “Honestly, I don’t like how scratchy it makes my face– Trust me, I’ve heard about girls liking the facial hair. I just don’t like the way it feels and if a girl can’t love me for my body and my big manly brain then.. well, she doesn’t deserve any of this.”
He was trying to keep up with the pace of the conversation, fingers tapping at his collar as he thought through each response. Experience with siblings and their kids had taught him a lot about narrowing down each topic.
“I think I’m pretty nice but cops really don’t like me. It’s funny, I just recently hopped out of the old clink not too long ago. What about you? Are you some fancy mutant that can read my mind or something?”
She took a momentary pause in her steps, cocking her head to the side at his comment. “ You have no clue what Hagrid means? You’ve never- ” She squinted her eyes at him unsure if the lack of Harry Potter knowledge meant he was any less trustworthy. It sure felt that way. “ You mean you have know idea what a patronus is? Ain’t watched no movies? Read no books? I’m-? ” After a long sigh she resumed her pace, catching up with him of course, longer legs carry faster. “ That’s a sweet sentiment, bigfoot. Warms my grinchy heart, but what happens when you find you a girly that loves you for what’s on the inside and she wants to watch some Harry Potter with ya? You gonna say no? ”
The switch of topic had her, again, OFFENDED. She was quick to run to the defense of the boy, and she was certain, no SHE’D BET HER LIFE ON THE IDEA that he was put there unjustly! But that was a judgement based on a conversation that was still moving. “ If I could read minds I’d find the dudes who snatched you up and ruin their lives! The heck were they picking on you for?!! ” Crossing her arms angrily across her chest, a set of furrowed eyebrows displayed her anger in full. “ What trumped up charges did they get you on?! ” A puff of air blew from her mouth as she continued to shake her head in anger. She had to make sure she’d be there to protect big guy from anything like that happening ever again.
“ But no, I don’t got any cool mind powers or anything like that. But my old friends in high school used to call me Medusa because they thought if they looked me in the face when I was angry enough they’d turn to glass. ” She giggled again, “ Nah, I’d have to wave my hand, of course. ”

“ NO SHIT!? You’re really pulling my pigtails, aren’t ya, buddy? ” Given his height, however, she was willing to take her chances. The towering male’s eyeballs would be the first to go if any birds fucked with her anymore. Maybe he just was helpful in other ways. Lulu made a note to never drop anything around him again. It could cause back problems with his height and all if he were to reach the ground. She couldn’t resist the incoming question, “ You take steroids to get that tall? Or are you one of those muties with the bounties on their heads? “ She giggled at her own joke. It was nothing melodic nor cute. Her own recklessness was a ticking time-bomb if that were the actual case, THE BOUNTIES. But that’s how she masked those fears, of course, HUBRIS and INSECURE laughter. “ Or are you just Hagrid’s long lost love child? And if so, why’d ya shave your beard? Chicks dig that stuff ya know? I once knew this chick, FUCKING SYDNEY, literally let her guy talk shit to her so long as he was sporting a beard. Not that I think you’d try and beat the shit out of anyone’s feelings. You’re just a big giant cuddly teddy bear aren’t ya? The tall ones typically are. THOUGH, cops must love profiling you, huh? ”
Warren had received many commentaries on his height-- his general build-- all along these same lines. Steroids. Hagrid-- whatever the fuck that meant-- it wasn’t all that new to him.

“ Pffffttt. “ was her only response to that crazy comment. It was both an agreement to their shared words, but also a silent replacement of the muttering she held back: what’s so great about being normal anyway? What the fuck does normal even mean? Lulu shook her head to rid herself of that nonsense. Sitting up straight, she hugged her book binder against her chest. The pages on the ground were safe in their place, no thanks to Dylan Wang over there. “Shut the fuck up! They weren’t invisible, okay! It was an actual pigeon and, no, it didn’t have fucking teeth.” A frustrated and angry huff matched the set of angry eye slits under her brows.
“ W-w-well” she stammered, “ I don’t think I saw teeth. “ she nibbled on the pout on her lips as her tone softened yet again. “ Hey, did you really get chased by birds with teeth? Or are you just fucking with me? Because, if you did, that means you survived, and, like, if you survived, then you can walk me to the library because you’ve been through that hell. “
Warren felt another laugh bubbling passed his lips as he nodded. “Yeah, they had teeth, huge ones.” He held his hands up, emulating long teeth and clasping them together. “I got away because I was working with some emo cannibal and they were more interested in them than me-- it really was an experience. But, I absolutely wouldn’t mind walking you to the library.” Warren had a lot of sisters, twenty to be exact. It made him soft, careful with others and he tended to feel protective of people smaller than himself-- which tended to include a lot of people. His staggering six feet and six inches left him towering over a lot of people. “I can promise if a bird with teeth swoops down to munch on you that’ll get me first.”

Warren stood, a hand rested over his mouth as a smile tugged over his features in obvious amusement. Though he could see that this person was obviously having a not great time, he couldn’t help but let a short exhale -- very similar to a laugh -- free, his nostrils flaring a touch as his hand rose from his features to brush through darkened strands. While on his run Warren had grown tired and found himself wedged against a tree, idly scrolling through his phone until the other appeared to serve him a solid bit of entertainment. “You looked pretty crazy,” He began, pushing himself up from the trunk and tucking the device into his sweatpants pocket. “were you getting chased by invisible birds with teeth cause I can promise I know what that's like.”
❛❛ 𝓁𝓊𝓁𝓊 & open––
The textbook binder atop Lulu’s head tried it’s best to serve as a fashionable statement piece. Yet, it failed as a couple of stray looseleaf notes rained down and matched a couple of autumn leaves as her feet gracelessly carried her across that path.
“ SHIT SHIT SHIT. “ her worried eyes peered above that head of hers in search of those flapping wings. Though the shadows of her chaser couldn’t be seen. She took the moment to frantically pick up those notes with her eyes steady on the nearby parking lot. A sound from a nearby tree scared the living shit out of her.
“ FUCK OFF YOU FEATHERED FREAK. “ -was her response. Not even half of her pages were recovered when her eyes fell on the person standing there.. She bit her bottom lip, taking back her words. “ S-sorry. I’m not crazy or anything. I just thought you were something else. “

coffee. she heard a lot about this wicked dark beverage. humans, they glorified this drink. and of course, she had to taste it and decide for herself. but she wasn’t expecting this many options. too many options.
it’s maybe her fifth time reading the whole menu of choices, still, all of those terms sound like non-sense to her. “ i don’t think i can. ” is her answer, which in the human world would be considered passive-aggressive. but paired with the lost puppy expression on her face, it’s only making the situation weirder. “ can you help me ? what should i order ? ” a call for help, she has the urge to also provide a reason since none of the humans looked like they needed help with this task while she was watching them order. “ it’s because i’m feeling indecisive today. ”
Warren was used to weird people. This was a city full of mutants all pretending that they weren’t. This was normal for him to come across someone who was just strange but nothing prepared him for the way that that tone and that look contrasted with each other. He blinked slowly, eyes just a touch wide as he turned to look at the board above his head. because she was feeling indecisive. “I...” He began, confusion lacing his tone as he continued, “Guess a vanilla frap maybe? caramel drizzle is usually pretty good.” He turned back to the patron, brows knitting together beneath his corporate ordered visor. “Are you lactose intolerant? Would you want me to switch out the dairy for soy?”

Why was he even here? Somewhere along the way, Warren had clearly assumed that the pair had sparked a friendship. Donnie looked through the peephole one more time, and was met not with a face but with a chest, because of those strange gargantuan limbs. Relenting, Donnie fastened the chain but unlocked the door, opening just so that his face appeared. “Didn’t ask you to do all that.” His eyes flickered towards the brown paper bag briefly. “So that means you’ve done something to it. It’s spiked. Go back to your swamp, I don’t want this.”
“I already assured you that I didn’t pee on them,” Warren couldn’t help but grin widely, leaning down so their faces were even. It was entirely silly that Donnie was reacting this way. “Do you not like Taco Bell? I could postmates some drinks? Are you really gonna break my heart this way?”
