Update 1.1 + Code reset
Hello everyone; I'm gonna be honest, I forgot that I had this blog, sorry 😅.
I'm here to say that two things happend: 1.1 update of Marieta and that I restarted Marieta's development from scratch.
First of all, the new update, 1.1 is not a feature heavy update; it's just bug fixing, code optimization and little QoL (Quality of life) improvements.
Here's the list:
Support for browser builds. You can play Marieta online in my Itchio or Gamejolt pages. Links are at the end of the post.
Now the game is playable in all kinds of resolutions; the UI no longer messes up (with some menu exceptions).
FPS counter when playing. I doubt if it really shows the real FPS that the game is running at, but at least it's something.
Bugfixed the Warp Menu Cursor misbehaviour in the Help Menu.
Removed the weird frames that could appear sometimes of older versions of the menu.
Now for the last (and most important thing): the code reset.
I started developing this version of Marieta (that I internally name as "r2") in mid-November 2019. By that time, my knowledge about Unity was null. I followed a line of Spanish Unity tutorials by Alva Majo ("Unity para retrasados"), and I developed the first version of Marieta (0.9.2.12; 3rd January 2020) using content from those tutorials.
I expanded my knowledge with more tutorials, seeing "behind the scenes" videos and a lot of StackExchange questions. Though this time, I've remaded parts from several scripts several times but some scripts where becoming to chaotic to work on.
Mainly, the MarietaMoves one, originally only intended for Marieta's moves but now controlls the items, the gamemodes, the pause menu, the speed and part of the score system.
Now that I'm taking a Unity online course, I decided to restart development of Marieta (under the internal name of "r3") to recode it's mechanics.
Things like different gamemodes, touch screen inputs and other small animations were not possible in the old version (or at least, not possible without major changes).
This reset should allow me to add this features and others that may come in future updates.
I don't want to promise anything about for when I'll have this new version ready. I'm currently aiming for mid-September, but I'll have to see how it's going...

I made a website!
Hello everyone, in today's post, I made a website!
It's a plain and simple HTML and hosted in a Gilab repository and I'm going to use it as a link between my projects and my social accounts.
If you want to check the website, here's the link: https://xavizardknight.gitlab.io/
Now I'm working in the long and tedious final project of my course, so I'm kinda stressed and overwhelmed of all the things to do. Hoping to finish it before the deadline of mid-June and then work again on Marieta.
Even that I've been pretty inactive during half-a-year, there's little to do left before releasing the 1.0.0.0 update.
Maybe 1.0 release during June? Idk... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Marieta 0.10.0.0 released + problem with GameJolt
Hi everybody, yesterday 6th January 2020, I released the version 0.10.0.0; but there’s no release without weird problems and one of those problems was the GameJolt’s Windows build to not work properly. Here’s below a screenshot of what happend.
I solved this by uploading the build zip instead of the build folder; a dump solution for a dump problem xD
Ok, now here is what contains this update:
- Pause menu
- Title Screen
- Splash info about the controls before start playing
- Now the higher scores are saved
If you want to delete the high score, hold the DEL key when the Xavizard Knight logo appears.
With this update the January update is done, I’ll make a post in the upcomming days explaining what will be my update schedule for this game.

Marieta 0.9.2.12 released
Yesterday morning, the very first version of Marieta was released. 0.9.2.12 saw the light on Friday 3rd January 2020 at 13:30.
After nearly 1 month of development this first version is finished and it will set the path for next updates to come.
What contains this update?
- A screen with general information and controls after starting the game (will disappear in the next update)
- The game on its barebons (only the super basic mechanics)
- Flowers with value 1, flowers with value 5 and spikeballs
- Game Over screen with the score of the last run
And now, whats next? There's plenty more of updates and things to come in the future. 0.10.0.0 update will (hopefully) come in this January.
This is what 0.10.0.0 will look like:
👍Title Screen added and working
👍Info screen removed
👍"END" keys closes the game everywhere
⌛Pause
⌛Higher score gets saved and it will show up in the Game Over screen
I'll post something more announcing this update in the following days with more details about what's coming. The only work left in this update is on the pause system and saving your data, which are the longest things to do.
If you want to play this version, you can do it on itchio:
https://xavizard-knight.itch.io/marieta
Or in GameJolt:
https://xavizardknight.gamejolt.io/marieta
Don't worry, both pages have the same game. 😉

My first post
So this is my first post in this blog, so hello everyone! In the past weeks I have been working on a small Unity project called Marieta; means Ladybug in catalan. In this game, you control a ladybug called Marieta and you collect flowers while avoiding spikeballs. Is a simple arcade game; small but also good enough for my first Unity project. Development of this idea in Unity started in late August 2019, but this first attempt was not so good; some weeks later I found myself trapped in a buggy and messy code that tried unsuccessfully to move Marieta. By then, I was following Alva Majo's Unity para retrasados videos, those tutorials are really good, but my organisation for this game wasn't. I wanted to implement 2 different control modes at the same time: multidirectional (move with WASD or the arrow keys) and unidirectional (click to rotate 90° clockwise). As expected, nothing was working right and the code for one control mode was caused conflicts with the other. By the end of November, I went to the Nice One Barcelona 2019. A trip that really motivated me to keep on working on this project. Just a few days later, I started over with Marieta. I did not delete anything of my old Marieta, those files still remain on my Windows 10 SSD. As I was (and I keep on) using Ubuntu MATE on an external HDD, I downloaded Unity, Visual Studio Code and everything into there and I started again fresh. I made a new Marieta sprite with vectors that looks much better than the old one.

In two weeks I managed to get Marieta's movement in Multidirectional working properly and nearly 4 weeks after, both Marieta and the flower and score system. So I can say that the core features are nearly completed.

So what are my objectives on this project? Getting started in Unity and post my first game to GameJolt and Itch.io; hope to have it ready before high school starts again in 8th January. My objective is to release a really basic version before 8th January and then keep on adding control modes, game modes, bugfixes and QoL improvements progressively. This might be a bad idea to release a such a simple arcade game and hoping that it keeps fresh for months till more updates arrive. But I decided that this might be the best of my options to release this project and at the same time keep me motivated to developing future updates.
