I know the lands aren't supposed to know about each other or whatever but do you think Dr. Victoria and Bowser ever meet up for evil castle owner brunch and talk about their plans over mimosas and omelettes and hashbrowns

Flight Deck at California's Great America!
<- Previous | Start | Next ->
Opened: 1993 Manufacturer: Bolliger & Mabillard Height: 100 ft (30 m) Speed: 50 mph (80 kph) Length: 2,260 ft (690 m) My most recent ride: 2022
A true example of "small but mighty", CGA's Flight Deck is among the smallest of all the B&M Inverts, but it rivals some of the biggest ones in terms of power. Despite being only 2,260 feet long and only having three inversions, this ride absolutely rips through its course.
With it's powerful and whippy elements, fast-paced ride and light fighter jet theme, it almost feels like a smaller version of Afterburn at Carowinds. And for the second Invert B&M ever built after Batman the Ride at the other Great America park in Illinois (a similar smaller scale Invert known for its intensity), it's clear that B&M really hit the ground running with this model.
I only got the chance to ride Flight Deck once the one time I've been to CGA, and I really hope I can get out there before it's gone for good. From what I remember, along with what I've seen from other people in preparation for writing this post, Flight Deck remains a really solid and well-running ride even over 30 years after it opened. It ran very smoothly for me and clearly still dishes out a lot of great forces.
Kicking off with a swooping drop into a vertical loop immediately followed by a winding upward helix, there are positive Gs galore. Following that, you're thrown through a zero-G roll. Usually these elements are nice and floaty, but you go through it here with so much speed and power that you just whip through it. It's also positioned right above the ride's entrance, making for a really nice visual. After a brief lull to hop over the station, you then go into the ride's famous finale. This features a great corkscrew followed by a nearly horizontally banked turn right over the surface of the water. This final turn reminded me a lot of the really low to the ground turn B&M later put on Talon at Dorney. Then you twist up into the brake run, ending the ride.
Undoubtedly the ride's biggest flaw is it's length. The ride is short no matter which way you slice it. But to it's credit B&M was able to do a LOT with the little track length they had to work with. However, with the impending and uncertainly timed doom of CGA on the horizon, make sure you get to ride this one soon if you haven't. With it's unique and slightly terrain based layout, combined with it's age, this is one I don't realistically see getting relocated. So when the time comes, I imagine it will go down with the park unfortunately. I'd love to get back out there and do this one again before it's gone for good.
Thanks for checking out today's coaster post! Keep an eye out for tomorrow's coaster!

It's a real sad state for MK:BC discourse when the voice of reason is Taylor Fucking Bybee. Like how are you all letting him take the mantle of Nuanced And Reasonable Viewpoint

HELLO ANIMATRONIC COMMUNITY
i have some great news!!!
so, if you’re into rollercoasters like me, you might know about Chaos which operated at Opryland USA, in Nashville.
on the ride they had this “dragon” animatronic that would pop out at riders at the end of the ride.
there was only 2 images known of the animatronic itself, and no videos. below are the 2 known photos of the “dragon”!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WELL, i was able to get in contact with the designer of the animatronic, I PRESENT TO YOU, NEW PHOTOS OF THE “DRAGON” ANIMATRONIC! (which is actually a space alien)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
these photos belong to Amy Slade, who designed the alien!
according to Amy, the alien had laser eyes and would unhinge it’s jaw to show off it’s tongue. Amy says it was made using metal, chicken mesh, and padded foam. the teeth were made of styrofoam and the eyes were metal bowls!
this might be pretty niche and not a lot of people will care, but i am very happy to be sent these images! i’m super grateful that after a year of searching i was able to find new angles of the animatronic and more information!
NONE OF THESE IMAGES BELONG TO ME, CREDITS TO AMY SLADE AND ALEX NAGEL FOR THE PHOTOS PROVIDED.
