Owen and Mzee

We can use interspecies communication here on our planet to get a very rough idea of how we may be able to speak to extraterrestrial life.

One such example is the duo Owen and Mzee, a hippo and a giant tortoise how managed to form a strange bond of friendship. Owen, the hippo, was brought to the Haller Park rescue centre, but found that he had no other hippos to talk to - and so immediately tried to bond with Mzee. The tortoise was initially reluctant about Owen but grew to like him.

This seemingly powerful interspecies bond, where to completely different animals were able to share a space and stay in one another's company suggests that communication with aliens could be similar. It's a long stretch, but even something as small as this could hold strong when trying to communicate with biological life not from our planet.
