Sour Patch looked over the words and flashed a bright smile. “Well, how else am I supposed to get to know you if I don’t invite you to do something with me?” he asked. However, he quickly faltered, thinking that the questions meant that she didn’t want to. “I totally understand if you don’t want to, though. You might have prior engagements and just stopped to look— It was a bit silly of me to suggest that.” He gave a sheepish laugh before looking down. “You just looked so interested in them and you’d learn much more if you were actually in one and such.”
well, she supposed he had a point. it wouldn’t be her first course of action, but she also wasn’t known for being the most social person around, and after everything that had happened in the past few months, it would be a good idea to meet new people. when he started floundering, she quickly shook her head and wrote as fast as she could. ‘no, i want to. i’m just no good with social interaction. i don’t have anything else to do.’ for once. sometimes her clubs took up too much time. ‘the only time i was really in one was on my way here, and i didn’t see much.’

matilda smiled at the girl’s reply and nodded, quickly gathering her things. “perfect shall we, then?”
xiaoli nodded once and started heading out the door, forgetting that she should probably say ( well, write ) something if she was going to be with this girl for the rest of the period. ‘i never mentioned my name. it’s xiaoli.’

“ i know they don’t !! ” he cried. he was still torn up about the event, and his injury only served to remind him of it. “ i don’t…..i don’t know ?? we’ve gone on dates and we call each other our favorites and we danced, but….but nothing. ”
xiaoli was probably the last person in the world anyone should turn to for relationship advice, and shen technically wasn’t turning to her at all, but she couldn’t just leave things as they were. ‘it sounds like you want to date, just from the way you’re talking about it.’

Sour Patch thought that the writing was… peculiar. Though, he didn’t question it. He was sure he saw a girl walking around with two eels floating in water bubbles, so a girl who only wrote wasn’t all too questionable. He smiled again as he read the words. “Driving is convenient, definitely. I could go any adventure I want at a whim’s notice!” he chirped. The girl must’ve been from the Isle, he figured, since she arrived to place with barely any knowledge of cars. “My name’s Sour Patch. And, uh— if you want, I could take you for a spin? Show you how things work? I’d like to think I’m a pretty good driver.”
xiaoli wasn’t sure if she wanted adventure, per say. she just found the idea of cars interesting, and they looked pretty good, too. that was a plus. hearing the boy’s name ( nickname? it had to be a nickname, she was almost certain ), she was sure he was one of the sugar rush people sabrina had mentioned during class one time. ‘i’m xiaoli. are you sure that would be alright? you don’t know me, and i wouldn’t want to inconvenience you.’

shen pouted and made a whining noise in the back of his throat. “ we’re just - ” he made vague hand gestures. “ we - we’ve gone on dates. but i also attacked her. we’re just…..you know !! ”
‘those two things don’t usually go together.’ but this was auradon. she’d believe anything at this point. ‘so you two are dating?’

“I’m not going to lie, it’s quite amusing to see people mask their depression with dark humour,” Valentine said, having a sip of his laced coffee before smiling. “They could be making funnier jokes, though. Death gets boring after a while.”
'it’s getting old. for people who constantly keep fighting for their lives, they sure do have a habit of pretending to give up over the most trivial things,' xiaoli wrote. she understood it, to a degree, but that didn’t make it any less old. 'funnier jokes? what would you suggest?'

“you’re right … i don’t think i’m gonna stay, either,” she murmured softly, beginning to gather her things. “wanna come with me to the library? it’s usually fairly peaceful in there.” she offered a smile to the girl.
xiaoli contemplated declining the girl’s offer, but decided she had nowhere else to be. ‘sure, i don’t see why not,’ she wrote.

It took a moment for Xiaoli’s words to settle in as he read them. His eyes flickered to his sister’s expression when she looked at him. At first, he wasn’t sure what to think. But, he wasn’t clueless. He gave a sheepish smile. It wasn’t that he had meant to be obvious about what had started with Thalia; it’s just now that someone else had noticed it, it was all the more clear as to what they had become. He then looked up towards the window of the dorm. Xiaoli, stagnant, and Bolin, the one to be moving. It seemed as though things have been turned around since the beginning of the year.
“You may not notice it— But I do. I wish I could make you see,” he started then gave a sheepish chuckle. “Maybe wish is the wrong word… You see, little sister, admitting to this desire to change… isn’t that something different? Something to move you forward? You and I once believed we would never be more than our father’s pawns. And yet, here we are. You’ve met family. You’ve branched out in ways that we thought could never be possible. Not all flowers bloom at the same time, everything takes its due time. Just because I’ve sprouted a little, doesn’t mean you won’t grow to unimaginable heights. I believe you can. You can touch the clouds once you’re done growing.”
xiaoli liked to think that she was one of the best people when it came to reading her brother, even if it wasn’t true. she saw how close he and thalia were. the shans and dalmas were all close, but they were just close in different ways. he and illyria may have been best friends, but that was different. everything was different with thalia. but if bolin had to choose anyone, xiaoli was glad it was her. thalia had always treated her like a little sister, always looking out for her, always comforting her, yet managing to be brutally honest at the same time. she couldn’t ask for anyone better.
his words resonated with her. they always resonated with her, but this time even more so. her own feelings had obstructed logic and truth, and here he was, giving it to her just how she needed it. it was true that she’d never desired to change, or at least stated as much. now she was. she did want to change, whether it was for herself or those around her. and that was another thing -- she thought about others far more than she used to. it was a gradual thing, something she’d barely noticed herself. you can touch the clouds once you’re done growing. she stared at her ceiling as tears welled up in her eyes, and she lunged forward to pull her brother in for a tight hug.
#SHE LITERALLY SAYS NOTHING THIS ENTIRE TIME#SHE'S JUST FEELING#AND SOBBING#I'M SOBBING#{ bolin shan }

Ever since starting his driver’s ed earlier in the year, Sour Patch had gotten significantly better at driving. So much that when he got his license, Sour Bill managed to give him his own code-created car! It was part of his birthday present, even if he had gotten it much earlier than his actual birthday. He was a bit surprised when he saw a girl checking out all the cars in the parking lot. He watched her tilt her head. Curiously, he waved towards her, flashing a bright smile, before motioning to the nearest car to her. “That one’s mine!” he said. He unlocked it with his fob key, the click of the lock distinct. The royal blue car had a glistening sheen on the paint that almost made it look purple when the light hit it at a certain angle. “You can take a closer look at it if you want!”
out of the corner of her eye, xiaoli spotted someone waving at her, and she quickly stepped away from the cars. it was embarrassing to have been spotted. she’d been under the impression that there wasn’t anyone else in the parking lot. she must have looked ridiculous, and yet here he was, telling her that she could take a look. part of her wondered if she should trust him, but he didn’t seem to be a threat. she stepped forward and took a look. it was a very nice car. ‘i didn’t mean to pry,’ she wrote, still analysing the car as she did. ‘i’ve just been a little curious about cars since arriving here. driving seems convenient.’ and perhaps a little fun.

( @asourpatchkid )
if there was one thing xiaoli was completely clueless about, it was cars. she’d been in one on the way to auradon, and that one time had been enough to stir some sort of curiosity within her. she didn’t understand illyria and bolin’s aversion to them. or rather, she did, but she just didn’t feel the same way. if it was dangerous, then she wanted to overcome said danger. that was what she’d done her whole life.
that was why she’d stopped to look at the cars near the university, astounded to see so many in all different shapes and sizes. she walked around the parking lot, tilting her head every so often when she wanted to get a better look of something.

ceridwen simply nodded, puffing out her cheeks and letting the silence hang over them for a few moments. “i suppose you are right,” zip sighed. “i just hope that people won’t be wary of me because of my mother’s actions …”
xiaoli paused for a moment, knowing she had no choice but to be brutally honest. ‘some people will. there will always be people that will. but they are, fortunately, not the majority.’

( @xiacli said: ❛❛ I leave to eat some goddamn bbq ribs and there is hell. ❜❜ )
matilda crinkled her nose and looked around at the surrounding chaos. “yeah, i-i don’t really know what happened … they all just started … going wild,” she murmured, voice soft.
xiaoli sighed as she looked over everyone in the classroom. science rooms were full of substances useful to wreck a place. ‘i’m not staying here, and i doubt the teacher will be back anytime soon.’

at the question, ceridwen almost didn’t want to answer. she hated talking about such things. still, she gave a slow nod. she hadn’t intended to say anything, though, but blu quickly blurt out a, “she did. the witch. it’s not like it was anyone’s fault but her own, you know?” he made a face, and ceridwen shot him a look. then, she shook her head and zip said, “it wasn’t a big deal. i’d expected as much, really.”
xiaoli wasn’t surprised. disappointed, yes, but not surprised. it was unfortunate, but it was also common for villains to act in such a way. they weren’t good people. ‘that doesn’t make it any better,’ she wrote before sighing and continuing. ‘you’re here now, though. you don’t have to deal with her.’
