Part 1 Part 2
07:52 A.M.
You hadn’t slept in about 22 hours. You hadn’t even changed clothes. The launch prep bay was freezing, but your palms were sweating.
The suits were completed about 12 hours prior, now it was just making sure this ship could get these crazy four genetically modified astronauts to space and back successfully.
Somewhere between double-checking the radiation shield and Reed’s launch calculations, the reality had sunk in.
They were going to space.
He was going to space.
And not just their typical research trip, not that those go smoothly either, they were going to face a planet evaporating alien and his sexy silver side kick.
You stood near the railing of the upper platform overlooking the shuttle, surrounded by engineers and techs reviewing data and fuel levels. The chatter around you was low and focused, everyone moving like the weight of the planet sat on their shoulders.
Because it did.
Reed was below, talking Sue through their final plan. She gave him a sharp nod and patted her stomach like she was reminding herself why she was doing this. Ben sat silently near the ramp, helmet under one arm, the other hand curled into a stone fist resting on his thigh.
And then—Johnny walked in.
Helmet in one hand, fire in his eyes, that easy, insufferable swagger in his step like he wasn’t about to hurl himself into the stars with a low chance of coming back.
You didn’t want to react. Didn’t want to look at him and feel your chest tighten.
But your heart never listened to your brain when Johnny Storm was around.
He walked straight over, eyes scanning your face.
“You look like hell,” he said, leaning his elbow on the railing beside you.
You kept your eyes on the shuttle. “Good morning to you too princess, and you’re welcome. I only worked all night to keep your ass from vaporizing.”
He smiled at that.
God, it would be easier if he didn’t look at you like that and if you didn’t care so much.
“Aw, I didn’t ask for that,” he said. “But I do appreciate it. Really.”
You glanced at him then—just enough to meet his eyes.
And there it was again. That flicker of something behind the grin. Something you both refused to say.
You turned back to your tablet.
“Don’t worry. I triple-checked the suits myself. Even yours. You know. Just in case you forgot to turn on the heat setting again like last time.”
He laughed. “Okay, that was one time. And it was funny.”
“You nearly cooked yourself like a rotisserie chicken, Johnny. Not to mention the suit literally disintegrated and you came back naked.”
He leaned closer. “But a hot rotisserie chicken, right? And it was a good view, nonetheless.”
You didn't smile. Not this time.
The teasing faded from his face when he realized you weren’t playing along.
You shifted, arms crossed tightly over your chest. “Are you really not going to say anything?”
His brow furrowed. “About what?”
You scoffed, shaking your head. “About this. About us. About the fact that you might not come back and we’ve spent the last few months pretending like this is nothing.” Maybe it was the exhaustion, or the emotions, or the really good sex you had with him about 32 hours prior, but you felt bold. You didn’t have the energy to keep pretending this “casual” thing was just that right now.
He froze for half a second—just long enough to give himself away.
“I—I’m not good at this,” he finally said. “You know that. And I don’t want to say something I can’t take back if... if something goes wrong up there.”
“So you’re afraid of being honest in case you die?” you snapped, more bitter than you intended. “You’d rather leave it unresolved?”
He looked down, rubbing his neck like he wanted to disappear.
“It’s not like that,” he said quietly. “I just don’t want to make a mess of this. Or make you wait for something that might not happen.”
“You already messed me up, Johnny,” you said, barely louder than a whisper. “I guess it was just all in my head then, you said casual, no feelings. I should’ve believed you.”
His jaw tensed.
And then, in the worst possible moment, Reed’s voice came through over the comms.
“Final boarding call. All crew to shuttle bay. Launch window closes in ten.”
Johnny shifted on his feet. He looked at you then, and for a second, it seemed like he might finally say it. Like the words were sitting right on the tip of his tongue.
But he didn’t.
Instead, he gave you a crooked half-smile and leaned in just enough to press a kiss to your temple. Familiar. Heartbreaking.
You closed your eyes, swallowing the tears you felt building.
But when you opened them, he was already walking away. Sue came over and hugged you, “We’ll see you soon, Doc. Two weeks. Tops.” You hugged her back and smiled, unable to find the words. You pressed a hand on her belly and gave her a small smile. Ben gave you a sheepish wave, “Talk to you once we’re in the sky! I’ll get us all home.” He winked and turned towards the shuttle with Sue. Reed stepped up to you and looked you in the eyes, “I know you’re against this, but you know I can’t do any of this without you. We’ll be back soon, in time for the next family dinner.” He squeezed your bicep and turned to join his wife and best friend. Johnny was already on the shuttle, buckled in, looking up. Ugh.
The launch countdown was a blur.
You stood at the command console beside the lead tech as the rest of the tower team buzzed around you. Reed’s voice crackled over the comms. Ben confirmed all systems go. Sue was steady as ever. And Johnny looked straight ahead avoiding everyone and everything.
“Radiation shield stable. Trajectory aligned,” one of the techs reported.
“Final systems lock. Ready for launch.”
You pressed your headset against your ear and spoke. “Team, you are clear for launch on my mark. Good luck.”
There was a long pause.
Then Johnny’s voice came through, low and clear. “See ya soon, Doc.”
Not I’ll miss you.
Not Thank you.
Not I love you.
Just a goodbye laced with everything he didn’t say. “Launching in 30 seconds”. You looked at the control board, laser focused trying to not think about how embarrassed you felt for basically begging him to confess his love for you. You swallowed hard. Why did it have to be him? The one to finally capture your heart. There were other men, even a few women, but no one ever lit a fire in you like he did (pun intended). I mean what the hell were you thinking putting yourself out there like that.
Ten.
Your heart was thudding in your ears.
Nine.
They were leaving. And he hadn’t said a damn thing.
Eight.
Maybe it was your fault too. You could’ve pushed harder. Told him again, even said the words yourself.
Seven.
But you were tired.
Six.
I mean, what the hell were you thinking?
Five.
You blinked back the sting in your eyes.
Four.
Don’t cry here. Not in front of everyone.
Three.
“Please come back,” you whispered under your breath. No one heard it but you.
Two.
Your hands clenched around the edge of the console.
One.
Ignition.
The shuttle roared to life and disappeared into the sky, swallowed by clouds.
You stood there long after the sound faded, until an engineer gently touched your shoulder and said, “They’re gone, launch successful.”
Gone.
And he didn’t say it. You didn’t even say it.
You returned to your office in a haze, sat in your chair, and stared at the blinking cursor on your monitor. Watching their position float higher and higher into the atmosphere.
You pulled out your journal—a worn little thing you never let anyone see—and wrote the words you needed to say.
"I love you. You coward. I hope you come back so I can say it again, louder. Or maybe punch you. Or both." You wrote the date on the top and closed the notebook.
Johnny’s POV:
Another successful launch, thanks to you. He adjusted his helmet and flipped up the visor now that they were floating in space. He sighed deeply. Sue was watching him from the corner of her eye, almost sensing what happened just moments before they left the planet to save humanity.
The stars were too quiet.
Johnny Storm sat back in his seat, the hum of the shuttle fading into the background as the launch’s adrenaline drained from his system. The Earth had slipped behind them, replaced by endless black—and a growing knot in his stomach that no amount of his typical cockiness could shake loose.
“Doc seemed upset” Sue said breaking the silence, Ben nodded in agreement. “Probably stressed and tired.” Johnny stated knowing it was his fault you were upset, but wanting them to drop the subject. Sue hummed knowingly but let it be.
Across from him, Ben was adjusting his harness, grumbling about the tight suit. Reed was already plugged into the ship’s diagnostic systems, muttering numbers and recalculating their course, not focused on any of them. Sue glanced away from Johnny and out the window, her hand resting on her stomach like it might tether her to home.
But Johnny’s eyes were now closed.
And his mind was nowhere near the stars.
You.
That was all he could think about. Your face. The way your voice cracked when you asked if he was really not going to say anything. The way you tried to keep your expression neutral but your eyes betrayed you—like they always did when you were trying not to feel too much, your beautiful eyes.
He should’ve told you.
He should’ve said more than “See ya soon, Doc.” That wasn’t a goodbye. That wasn’t even the truth.
He loved you.
It hit him right there—thousands of miles above Earth. Above everything he knew. Everything except you.
He loved the way you never let him get away with anything. The way you held your own around Reed, never once intimidated by the fact that he could bend the laws of physics to his will. The way you always smelled of lavender. And the way you looked at Johnny like he wasn’t just fire.
He hadn’t felt human in a long time.
With you, he did.
And now you were down there, probably back in your lab, drinking cold coffee and overanalyzing every inch of the launch telemetry like it was a puzzle you could solve—because that’s how you kept yourself from spiraling.
He wondered if you were mad at him.
He hoped you were.
Because that would mean you cared as much as he did.
He sighed, finally opening his eyes and catching his reflection in the shuttle window. For the first time in a long time, he didn’t see the charming, confident Human Torch. He saw a guy running from things he didn’t know how to face. A guy who could laugh off any danger—except the danger of letting someone in.
He leaned forward, resting his forearms on his knees, letting his thoughts settle into the silence of the cabin.
Why didn’t I say it?
Why couldn’t I just tell her the truth?
He’d told himself it was to protect you. That if he didn’t make it back, it would be easier if he kept things casual, like you both agreed upon when you started this whole thing. He didn’t want to leave you grieving someone who'd made promises he couldn’t keep.
But that was a lie. A selfish, cowardly lie. When this all started months ago, he didn’t want to be too close to you emotionally, it’s like under all of it he knew that you would have him wrapped around your finger if he let you in. So he kept it casual, sex only. Until the sex turned into sleepovers, which turned into staying up all night talking, which turned into breakfast in bed. It all snowballed so fast he doesn’t even remember before you were there.
The truth? He was terrified.
Because loving someone and living his lifestyle meant it wasn’t just about him anymore, it was about you. And he’d already lost too much.
His voice was hoarse when he finally spoke, barely above a whisper.
“I’m sorry…”
Ben looked over. “You say something, flame brain?” Catching Sue’s attention, she looked over trying to read Johnny’s face, but she didn’t recognize what he was going through.
Johnny blinked. “Huh? No. Just… talking to myself.”
Ben gave him a look, then shrugged and went back to his systems check.
Johnny leaned back again, staring at the ceiling of the shuttle like it might suddenly offer him the answers.
“I’m sorry,” he repeated in his head.
“For not saying it. For not being brave. For not giving you what you deserve.”
And still—despite everything—he hoped you’d wait for him.
Because the moment this mission was over, if he survived it…
He was going to come back.
And this time—he was going to say it. The scientist in Reed’s lab is the one to capture the human torch’s heart.

Science of Attraction (part two): Johnny Storm
Johnny Storm x fem!scientist!reader
Word count: ~2.2k
Summary: You wanted to hate Johnny Storm. He distracted you and was constantly under your skin. But was it really that, or can you just not face your feelings?
Warnings: a little smutty, MDNI, 18+, some cursing, SPOILERS FOR F4
Authors Note: thank you all for your support so far, I think I have two more parts after this:)
Part 1 Part 3
After the chaos the silver space lady brought upon the world, work became even more intense—if that was possible. It was all hands on deck, trying to figure out how the hell to stop Galactus from evaporating the planet. In between those tense hours in the lab, there was Johnny.
You were scribbling away, trying to crack the pattern between the planets Galactus had already destroyed and Earth, when two hands landed on your shoulders and began to massage. He leaned down, his breath warm against your ear.
"You’ve been in here far too long, you’re tense. My room in five," he whispered, sending a chill down your spine.
You hid your smirk as he pulled his hands away. A quick glance around confirmed Reed, Ben, and Sue were completely absorbed in their work. Taking that as your cue, you quietly slipped away and followed Johnny to his room.
You pushed the door open and saw him laying on bed propped up by his elbows. You made quick work of slipping your lab coat off and pulling your shirt over your head, moving to straddle him as he looked up at you. He caressed your cheeks and pulled you in for a passionate kiss. You pulled away and looked into his eyes, “I thought you could use a break” he whispered. His hands moved from your face, down your back and to your hips painfully slow. He pulled you against him causing you to groan, just having his hands on you made you begin to unwind. He hooked his hands under your knees and flipped you over. “I want to take your mind off of everything that’s going on… I’ve been stuck in that lab staring at you so focused in your glasses, you’ve got me all hot and bothered ” he said as he trailed kisses down your body. You could feel yourself getting worked up just by the sound of his voice, pathetic, you thought to yourself. He sat up and took his shirt off, followed by him unzipping your trousers and slowly pulling them down your legs. He kissed the insides of your thighs with total patience and loved the way you moaned for more. “God Johnny” you moaned and he groaned in response into your thigh. He moved his eyes to yours “I love hearing you say my name” and with that he hooked his fingers under your panties and slid them down your legs, positioning his face at your core. “So wet for me already, have you been waiting for this all day?”
“Stop talking Storm.” You snapped breathily. He huffed a laugh and immediately put his tongue on you, moving up and down just how you liked it. God he knew exactly what he was doing. You thread your fingers through his hair and tried to be quiet. A whimper slipping past your lips as he slipped a finger in, moving them perfectly. And just like that you came undone right on Johnny’s hand. The first out of four times that night…
You slowly blinked awake, the heat from Johnny radiating against your back as his arms gripped your waist tightly. As your eyes adjusted, you spotted the clock—and immediately shot out of bed.
"Ten A.M.? Johnny, I have to go."
You rushed around the room, grabbing your clothes and trying to gather yourself.
"Slow down, hun." He reached out and gently caught your wrist, grounding you. Looking into your eyes, he said,
"You’ve been working so hard. We all have. Just come lay with me a little while longer."
You wanted to resist, to run back to the lab, but it was useless. One look into his eyes and you were crawling back into his arms. You breathed him in, instantly calmed by the scent of leather and oak from his cologne.
"I’ve missed you," he said, like it was the simplest thing in the world.
You smiled against his chest and fought back the urge to spill your feeling right there,
"I’ve been with you every day for weeks," you replied matter-of-factly.
He chuckled, glancing down at you.
"Yeah, but not like this."
You tilted your head up and kissed him. He was irresistible. Every time you were with him like this, you felt yourself falling harder. And it was getting more difficult to remind yourself that he was incapable of a relationship—especially with someone as complicated as you.
The kiss deepened. His hands explored your body, and a soft moan escaped your lips. That’s when it happened:
BANG BANG BANG
Ben’s voice boomed through the door:
"JOHNNY, YOU MISSED BREAKFAST, AND REED WANTS US IN THE LAB NOW!"
You and Johnny froze.
"I’ll be there in a minute!" he yelled back, as you held your breath.
"HAVE YOU SEEN DOC? REED SAID SHE’S NOT IN THE LAB."
The doorknob rattled.
"WHY IS YOUR DOOR LOCKED? YOU GOT A GIRL IN THERE? HOW DO YOU HAVE TIME FOR THIS SHIT?"
"God, can’t I have a little privacy? I’ll meet you downstairs in five!" Johnny shouted.
You both heard Ben grunt and his heavy footsteps fade down the hall. You finally let out the breath you’d been holding, and Johnny broke into laughter.
"It’s not funny! He has to know something," you said, dead serious.
"Oh come on, babe—it’s a little funny." He laughed harder, and despite yourself, you chuckled too.
You pulled away from him, got dressed quickly, and gave him one last kiss before slipping through the door—hoping no one would notice your disheveled hair or the fact that you were still wearing yesterday’s clothes.
You entered the lab to find Reed looking up.
"I was wondering when you left last night. I didn’t even notice until Ben pointed it out this morning."
"I just crashed in my office," you lied.
Reed nodded, seemingly satisfied. Sue and Ben exchanged a glance but didn’t press the issue. Moments later, Johnny strolled in behind you all, grinning as usual.
"Good morning, my beautiful team—and Reed."
Reed rolled his eyes.
"Alright, sit down. I think I know the solution to our silver space alien dilemma."
Everyone gathered around the chalkboard.
"Unfortunately, I think our best bet is to go to space," Reed began.
"I know it’s not ideal with Sue being this far along, but we have to follow her signal."
He waited for a response.
"You’re going to find Galuctus? That’s the plan, find him before he gets to us? And what—hope he’s reasonable? That he wants to bargain?" you asked.
Reed met your gaze knowingly.
"I mean, he doesn’t strike me as the bargaining type. You really think he’s just going to change his mind? You can’t be serious."
You stood now, animated and frustrated. Sue sighed and said your name, clearly exasperated. No one else backed you up—it felt like they’d already decided.
"Doc, you’ll be on the ground, navigating us to the best of your ability," Reed continued, ignoring your protest.
"We’ll probably go dark for a few days, but once we’re back online, we’ll need your help getting home."
You stared, jaw slack. With a deep breath, you pinched the bridge of your nose.
Arguing would get you nowhere.
"Okay. When do you leave? I can have the suits ready soon."
"Tomorrow."
You gave him a tight-lipped smile and nodded, heading to your office to prepare for their departure.
You were about to sit at your desk when Johnny appeared again, slipping in behind you. He grabbed your waist and spun you to face him.
"What’s wrong?" he asked, scanning your face.
"Oh, Johnny, don’t pretend like you care right now."
The sharpness in your voice stunned him.
"Of course I care. You know we’ll come back. We always do."
You pulled away and slid back into your seat.
"I have to get to work if I’m going to get all of your asses to space tomorrow."
He nodded quietly and backed out of the office, understanding you didn’t want to talk, and slightly stung by your assumption he didn’t care.
As soon as the door clicked shut, you let your shoulders drop.
You loved them—every single one of them. They’d become your family over the last six years. You had moved to New York, far from your own family, and they had taken you in without hesitation.
And then there was Johnny. God, you were undeniably in love with him. Shit. He said he wanted something casual, and you agreed just so you could stay close. But now he was about to go on a suicide mission to face a literal planet-killer.
What the hell had you gotten yourself into?
Should you tell him how you feel before he leaves? Or keep pushing it down? Could he possibly feel the same?
You were spiraling when a gentle knock at the door pulled you out of your thoughts.
"Hi. I brought you some coffee—I know it’s going to be a long night."
Sue walked in, hand resting on her belly, and settled into the chair across from you. You smiled, taking the mug gratefully.
"I know you’re scared for Joh—I mean, us." She quickly corrected herself. You chose to ignore it.
"Everything’s going to be okay though. You have to trust us. You have to trust Reed." She reached across the table and placed her hand on yours.
"I know, Sue. I trust you guys. I just… I don’t know. I’ve never had a family like this. And this mission—it feels different. Riskier."
She nodded in understanding, leaning back again.
"I know. But with great power comes great responsibility." She smiled.
You chuckled.
"Pulling out the cheesy one-liners, huh? Well, I’m with you all the way, no matter what. But what kind of assistant scientist would I be if I didn’t question Reed’s logic?"
Sue laughed.
"I’ll leave you to it."
With that, she left, and you were alone with your thoughts once again.
Only this time, you pushed them aside and got to work.
You had 24 hours to figure out how to get four superheroes into space.

Science of Attraction (part one): Johnny Storm
Johnny Storm x fem!scientist!reader
Word Count: ~1.7k
Summary: You wanted to hate Johnny Storm. He distracted you and was constantly under your skin. But was it really that, or can you just not face your feelings?
Warnings: implications of sex
Author’s Note: This is my first time writing and I was hoping to make it a mini series? This is the set up of reader and Johnny’s relationship. Let me know your thoughts! Please give it some love and let me know you want more. I am also open to all requests! :) Make sure you follow for part two!
Part 2! Part3!

Six years ago, you landed your dream position straight out of college—an internship with none other than Reed Richards. Yes, that Reed Richards. Mr. fantastic himself, smartest man in New York, possibly on Earth, and founder of the Fantastic Four. It was the opportunity of a lifetime, and you knew it. One and a half years into the internship, it became a full-time job. Six months after that, the team returned from space with superpowers, and your job became much more complicated.
Since then, you’ve done everything from analyzing alien tech to reverse-engineering interdimensional gateways. You’ve worked long hours, taken no credit, and quietly helped save the world more times than the public will ever know. It’s been rewarding, exhausting, and life-changing. But if there’s one constant irritation in your life—one thorn you can never quite pull out—it’s Johnny. Freaking. Storm.
The Human Torch himself. The tabloid darling with a jawline from the gods and the maturity of a frat boy on spring break. A certified pain in your ass since day one. Sure, he’s handsome. Charismatic. Unreasonably charming when he turns it on. But mostly? He’s an egotistical, shirtless distraction with a hero complex and a need to be the center of every room he walks into.
Now, with Sue pregnant and Reed focused almost entirely on supporting her (and nervously monitoring fetal energy fluctuations that might indicate early power manifestation), the behind-the-scenes operations have fallen mostly on you. Including one of the more tedious, time-consuming tasks: designing and tailoring new suits for the team. Naturally, this means you’ve had more one-on-one time with Johnny in the lab than you’d typically require. You tried using Reed as a buffer—an easy excuse to sidestep anything involving Johnny, but with a baby on the way, it was basically impossible to get Reed’s attention long enough to divert Johnny to him. But the truth was, Reed kept his distance from him just as much as you did. Still, your feelings toward Johnny ran deeper than simple dislike. They were complicated, buried behind walls you took years to build.
You ignored the way your eyes lingered on him in crowded rooms, or how his gaze always seemed to find yours after missions or during events. He always made a point to say hi and charm you. On long nights in the lab, he'd show up with a drink or snack in hand, accompanied by some offhand witty remark. And on the nights you fell asleep at your desk, more often than not, you'd wake up wrapped in a blanket.
You told yourself not to read into it. But it was hard not to overthink those small, thoughtful gestures. Still, you reminded yourself who he was: Johnny Storm—the notorious flirt. A walking red flag. A womanizer. It could never be serious, never what you need.
“Ouch,” Johnny muttered dramatically as he twisted in front of the mirror, adjusting the buttons on the shoulder of his new suit.
“If you’d stop checking yourself out for five seconds and actually stood still, I might be able to finish pinning this without stabbing you,” you snapped, holding the fabric in place with one hand and reaching for a pin with the other.
“OUCH. Okay, you did that one on purpose,” he said louder, twisting to glare at you with an exaggerated pout.
You pressed your lips together to hide a smile, because… yeah, you had done that one on purpose.
“You’re the one who wanted your suit, and I quote, ‘fitted to your bod,’” you said, mimicking his voice with a slight eye-roll. “So forgive me, princess, for trying to make it perfect.”
He scoffed. “You know I hate when you call me that.”
“I know.”
“You could at least upgrade it to ‘king.’ It’s more accurate. Or ‘god among men.’ I’d even accept that.”
You didn’t respond, choosing instead to keep pinning the suit with clinical focus. “This should be completely flame retardant and will hopefully last you much longer than your last suit.” You stated, trying to pull away from the banter.
“Thank god we picked blue as our team color,” he continued, completely ignoring your statement and admiring himself in the mirror. “It really brings out my eyes.”
Your eyes flicked upward just long enough to glare at his reflection. “Is there any part of your day that isn’t narrated by your over confident alter ego?”
He grinned at you in the mirror. “Nope.”
Silence settled over the room as you moved around him, your fingers brushing his arm as you adjusted the fit. The only sound was the soft click of pins and the distant hum of lab equipment down the hall.
Then, just when you thought he’d finally shut up—
“You’re cute when you’re focused.”
You froze for a millisecond before continuing your work, refusing to take the bait. “And you’re irritating when you talk. So I guess we’re even.”
“I’m serious,” he said, softer this time. “You’re cute in those glasses. Especially when you’re focused… on me.”
You didn’t dignify him with a response. You simply adjusted the final seam, pushed your glasses back up your nose, then tapped his arm gently. “You’re done. Take the suit off and get out.” He gently slipped out of the suit leaving himself in only his boxers. You held your hand out and he handed you the suit. Your eyes looking anywhere but him as you tried to avoid staring directly into his chiseled abs. Your fingers brushed his and he looked at you with those goddamn perfect blue eyes. You nearly melted on the spot.
Johnny hopped down from the stool and stretched, his movement lazy but annoyingly hot. He turned back to face you, a smirk on his lips.
“Don’t miss me too much, Doc” he said, tossing a wink over his shoulder as he walked out.
The truth was, it had been three months—three months since you started crawling into Johnny’s bed after long days in the lab. You’d sneak past Ben’s room, slipping under Johnny’s sheets like it was the most natural thing in the world. It was supposed to be casual, just a way for both of you to unwind. No strings, no complications. But it was never casual for you. He was never casual. And you hated that.
You kept telling yourself you could handle it, that you could play it cool. But deep down, weren’t you just lying to yourself so you could keep seeing him—keep pretending it wasn’t the best feeling in the world? He knew exactly what you needed. Even the things you didn’t know you needed. The way he pulled you in by your hips and kissed you when you’d let yourself in made you dizzy, and almost made it seem like he was looking forward to it just as much as you. With him, you felt like the only girl in the world.
So how were you supposed to keep it casual?
You hated that you watched him go. Hated how your eyes drifted down his back and lingered a second too long, thinking ungodly thoughts.
God, he was so annoying, but so hot.
Especially in the way he lived rent-free in your head. All fire and flash and cocky grins. He was infuriating—and it didn’t help that under the ego and spark, you sometimes caught glimpses of something more. But you had to remind yourself that it wasn’t something more, just you overthinking his stupid boyish charm.
You shook your head, brushing those thoughts away like smoke.
“Strictly professional,” you whispered under your breath, closing your eyes and trying to focus on something other than his blue eyes that winked your way moments ago. And then, the perfect distraction came of a heavy stomp of approaching footsteps echoing outside the lab.
Ben.
“Hey Doc! Ready for me?” The Thing’s deep, gravelly voice boomed as he stepped into the room with a grin.
You smiled warmly and gestured for him to come in. “Always, Ben.”
And just like that, the moment passed.
But Johnny’s voice, his smirk, his stupid wink—they all stayed with you.
Much longer than you’d ever admit.
“He bothering you?” Ben asked breaking you away from your thoughts. You smiled at his question. “No Ben, I think he’s rather harmless.” He nodded slowly, “I think that’s only because he has a little crush on you.” Now you rolled your eyes at Ben, a move typically reserved for Johnny. “He does not have a crush, we are not children. He’s arrogant and likes the reaction.” You stated matter-of-factly. Ben sighed, used to the back and forth, and possibly seeing right through you—which you chose to ignore.
The truth was, it was getting harder and harder to ignore Johnny Storm. But you’d worked too hard for this job to let some playboy derail it.
Besides, he flirts with anything that can talk.
You shook the thoughts away and returned to tending to Ben’s new suit.
You cannot and will not let Johnny Storm in, emotionally that is.
