Can you explain the concept of a "favorite person"?

But let me add some to this:

As somebody with BPD, having an FP is the worst thing. You are hyperfocused on this person, and your other friends sometimes feel less cared for or loved but it isn't that. It tends to hurt people and the person with BPD in my experiences.

The person with BPD will lean on this person for emotional support very hard. It can put pressure on the person itself and it isn't meant to do so!!

Making a person their fp is not meant to hurt the person or be mean, to somebody with BPD it means you are above all others. I know it can be rough

i’d love to know more about FP! when i was diagnosed with BPD it’s like my entire life clicked into place and everything made sense, along with having a FP. mine changes so much

From my personal research, I've seen a lot of people with diagnosed BPD saying that having a FP is both the best and the worst thing. In my opinion, I agree.

FP = Favorite Person

To people with borderline, this can take a few forms, but is often seen as who they rely on emotionally. This person becomes the top of their hierarchy of people in their lives. People also claim that they need a FP to feel alive, and ignore chronic emptiness they feel. I personally relate to this a lot.

Some people with BPD also claim that they end up panicking that the person will leave them, and lash out or cling constantly, or the opposite by putting distance.

In my personal experience, before I knew I had BPD, I thought everybody had a top friend in which you relied on for everything and clung onto for dear life. Often times, if they wanted space, I'd lash out and not know why. I feel bad for the past FPs I lost before I discovered what BPD was and realized this isn't something everybody experiences. Due to my disconnect from others, and not knowing this behavior was different, it caused a lot of strong bonds to be broken, and it hurt. However, I also hurt those around me, and I'm thankful for the FP's who have become my friends from a distance.
