Hey I am absolute beginner in my Chinese learning journey and I want to do self study if anyone and you yourself can guide me how and where to start I'll be grateful

Hi. It's very difficult to learn such a complex language on your own, but this doesn't mean that it's impossible. This is a very brave thing to do and I wish you good luck on this journey.

The most important thing is to have a thirst for knowledge and love this language. 

You need to have something that keeps you motivated. It's really easy to lose motivation when things starts get difficult.

My thing is to watch Chinese movies and read Chinese books (btw it's good to dive in the culture, it helps to understand "why" language go on this way and also interesting)

About tip's for learning:

1. Start with pinyin and tones. Don't skip it and learn carefully. It's really important in a first place. There's pinyin interactive chart that my teacher used:

2. To learn hieroglyphs - repeat them regularly, otherwise they will not go into the long-term memory of the brain. (the first 3 days every day, then every 3 days, then every week)

3. Don't try to learn all the rules at once. Start learning basic phrases from the beginning instead of just trying to increase the number of words you learn. Baby steps! 

4. My teacher uses Hanyu Jiaocheng (汉语教程) textbooks for teaching us (btw she called it a hard ones). I can say that i like this books because it gives you all basic learning skills in the complex. There's dialogues, words, rules . You can start a basic small talk's from the first pages its really useful for me. (For self study there's also audio version with pronounsiation)

5. Also you can use apps to practice your skills, Duolingo or Hello Chinese or anything else like that, but using just an app isn't enough trust me.

So that's all i think. You can ask more if you have a questions. 

Keep yourself motivated, baby steps and regularly repeat. That's the key!

I'm doing my homework for the next lesson. I need to copy dialogue from the textbook and do listening ୧⁠(⁠ ⁠˵⁠ ⁠°⁠ ⁠~⁠ ⁠°⁠ ⁠˵⁠ ⁠)⁠୨

Laoshi said that our group already have HSK1, based on our skills!

I didn't pass real exam yet (only example tests), but laoshi is a native speaker and good person, I think I can trust her conclusions.

That's makes me feel better mentally. Knowing that my work pays off is a great feeling!

Last 2 weeks I was sick and don't have strength to post something or making interactions.

Today started a new semester of the Mandarin Chinese course that i take.

I'm a little bit upset about my skills after month university break.

I can read and write good, but when we start talking with laoshi I realised that i forgot how to build sentences myself aloud 😞

But laoshi said that our group doing great for our level so i think I'm just too harsh on myself.

At least now I know what I need to practice more ᕙ⁠(⁠ ⁠:⁠ ⁠˘⁠ ⁠∧⁠ ⁠˘⁠ ⁠:⁠ ⁠)⁠ᕗ

Today I bought new calendar for 2025 year!

It's really cute and useful. But! It is also Chinese calendar! I will use it to practise my skills now.

I think this part with hanzi called "Lunar calendar"( but i might be mistaken, please don't judge).

I will try to learn how to use it.

New knowledge for today:

January 5 for lunar calendar started 小寒 [xiǎohán] season! In English we can call it "minor cold".

Next one season is 大寒 [dàhán] "major cold" will start January 20!

I love this concept about 24 season in Chinese culture. It's making life more interesting and mesmerizing.

By the way, now i know about 150 hanzi (hieroglyphs)!

Half of the year ago I never thought i would know this much, year ago i never thought im seriously gonna start learning new language (even take study courses in university)

After long time fighting with depression i think it's a victory.
