It was 5 o’clock in the evening while you writhed in bed, tossing and turning, moaning in pain. You had a high fever and sore throat that burned like hell and that was excluding the massive headache that inopportunely manifested an hour before.

You groaned again, whimpering into Scaramouche’s side. Tears started to fall from your eyes from the excruciating pain when all of a sudden as if it couldn’t get worse, your left hip and side started to hurt as well.

You clutched onto your boyfriend tightly. “Make it stop, please!” you cried. He turned to you with a look in his eyes that almost said that he was feeling your pain. It was one of worry and sadness. “I’m sorry,” he held you tighter, matching your hold on him. “I wish I could take the pain away.” He began to cry as well. “I wish that I could make it all go away.”

You continued to groan out. “Please don’t leave me!”

“I won’t, I promise,” he stroked your head akin to petting a cat, hand brushing over your soft hair that was now slightly tangled from all the tossing and turning. Scaramouche leaned down to kiss you, lips pressing lightly against your warm forehead. “I don’t want you to leave me either.”

Every time you swallowed, it felt like a broken potato chip was lodged in your throat (That shit HURTS if you haven’t had it happen to you) and after 10 more minutes, the pain had subsided as you were fast asleep, still clutching onto Scaramouche.

Scaramouche, still awake, however, continued to cry for you.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t make it go away. I’m sorry I couldn’t be useful,” he sobbed uncontrollably. There was nothing that man wouldn’t do for you. He loved you so much you don’t even know.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he strengthened his grip on your clothes as if you were to disappear the moment he blinked.

“I love you,” you groggily whispered back.

It had been 4 days since Scaramouche had left for work. He’d gone with the traveler to do some work with Irminsul. Your memories of him remained, but when they told you what had happened, you nearly lost it.

The day after you spent crying on your bed, missing the man you loved ever-so much. The man that you spent 4 years living with, the one that normally held you tightly when something bad happened. This time was different. This time, he wasn’t here to console you. He wasn’t here to embrace your warmth or wipe the tears that spilled from your eyes. To hold your face in his hands, pressing a kiss to the tip of your nose in love and adoration.

You didn’t hear the door to your shared room open 2 days later, and failed to hear the footsteps outside. In the doorway stood your (Short) husband before he ran to you, jumping on the bed and embracing you with his (also kinda short) arms. (I can’t be talking, I’m shorter than him).

More tears rolled down your cheeks seeing who it was.

“I Love you, I love you! You sobbed, returning his hug and tightening your hold as if he were to disappear from you again. “Promise you’ll never leave me!”

You were too caught up in nuzzling yourself in any area of him that you could, anything to be as close to him as possible to realize that he was also crying.

“I’m sorry,” A couple drops of salty liquid fell from the orbs that stared at your form. “I’m sorry,” he cried. “I’ll never leave you. Please don’t leave me.”

You both lay there hugging one another for many hours, falling asleep in eachothers arms while he held you.

Suddenly it becomes too much for him to handle.

Scaramouche picks you up and takes you inside the house, his steps echoing in the hallway to your shared bedroom.
