Thank you, so SO very much for the time to write all of that down, I immensely appreciate all of it!! The journey to make mods like that sounds like a herculean task, but it's pretty awesome you were still able to find a way to create the characters you did with the limited information out there, I know custom mesh creations aren't that well documents so MAJOR props to you for being able to figure it out!! I will do my best to give it a shot but If I can't I seen you were open for commissions and I really love your art so I might try to get a custom made little model of my imp character! even if I couldn't mod him in game, I think just having something in your style would be awesome 🥹 Speaking of, Thank you again for making such wonderful art and creations, I love how unique everything is, your renders give off that old era 3D vibe and I just adore that, Keep on being awesome and here is to seeing more of your beautiful and creative artwork! :D
I am glad what I wrote was helpful! Creating mods for The Sims 1 is much more accessible these days with the new tools that are available. It’s neat to see that the modding scene for The Sims 1 still has some activity after so many years.

Art, mods, everything!
I just want to start of by saying, I am absolutely enamored with your artwork, your style just everything really. I can't sing my praises enough, the surrealism, the colors, the blending you do It caught my eye when I was looking for some mods for the sims on your neocities page and it's lead me all the way to your tumblr page! I'm sorry for the long post, the question I had, How do you do it? having a monster creature of my own, How were you able to make those for such an old game, was it a long process, are there steps one has to do to make their own? I truly want to listen and learn from the best!! thank you for taking the time to read all this 🙏
Thank you! It brings me joy to hear from others that they enjoy my artwork and silly game mods!
For creating skins for The Sims 1, I originally used a tool called Skn2Obj, it is a very old tool with many limitations and is prone to creating UV-mapping errors. Skn2Obj can export .SKN files into editable .OBJ files and .OBJ files into .SKN files. It can be used to create custom head meshes, but not custom body meshes. Only body meshes from the game can be modified (polygons can be moved around, and the texture replaced, but no new polygons can be added or it breaks the mesh.) So, no way to convert custom modeled bodies into usable .SKN files with this tool.
However, someone has created a new tool for creating meshes for The Sims 1 (and animations, too!) The tool is [ TS1 Blender IO. ] It is a plugin for Blender that allows the export of meshes into usable .SKN files for The Sims 1. So, new custom body meshes can be created with this tool! The Triops Dog and Fairy Shrimp Cat were my first creations with this tool.
With this plugin, anyone with knowledge of using Blender can easily create new meshes for The Sims 1. However, files must be extracted from The Sims 1 to use the tool, I think FarOut (or something like that…a tool that can open / extract data from .FAR files) can be used to extract files from the game. I think the tool needs a skeleton in order to create new skins, and I am pretty sure the skeleton data is part of the .SKN file, so any skin extracted from the game should be able to provide a usable skeleton. (…I think, it has been a bit since I have worked on any skins and my memory isn’t very good.)
Creating new skins for The Sims 1 does require a bit more work once the meshes are exported, such as editing the .CMX files and preparing the textures. My The Sims Mods Archive has [ links to various modding resources ] that might be helpful.
Creating custom skins for The Sims 1 is fun, but a bit of a headache. I have created quite a few skins for it, but still often make mistakes and need to backtrack to figure out what went wrong in the process.
I could perhaps create a more in-depth guide to creating custom meshes for The Sims 1, but such a project would take some time to complete. I hope what I have written can at least provide a decent start to figuring out the process of custom skin creation for The Sims 1. I wish you luck on your Sims modding journey!
