What keeps this industry alive is creators doing their own work. Once you change a costume or origin enough times, it’s a dead body — you’re just electrocuting it and keeping it sort of shambling on. There is a lot more creator-owned stuff now, and some of it I look at and go, “Oh, that’s his pitch for a TV show. That’s his pitch for a movie. That’s him saying oh, this kind of thing sells.” I didn’t do that. My one piece of advice to people who are saying “I wanna do it, but DC and Marvel pay so well…” is that in between your big paying gigs, just find time just to do one comic! It doesn’t have to be a 6000-page epic! It doesn’t have to be Hellboy! Ten years down the road, when you’re scrambling for work or drawing some book you hate, at least you did something when you had fire in your belly that’s really you.

Hello! Your work is so charming and it's a treat every time you post! Would you mind sharing how you get such a soft look on your paintings? I can tell it's not just a Gaussian blur filter, you lead eye very well with soft and sharper areas. Maybe... Roughly paint with a soft brush and increase the hardness as you go? Anyway thanks for all the awesome illustrations!

Thanks so much!! I like your work a lot as well! Specially the little mice. 

I begin by painting my base with the soft brush and getting all the color masses right, and slowly start defining with the same soft brush just by making it smaller. Usually I use a combination of 3 brushes I like, but as of late I’ve been only using the default soft brush that comes with Photoshop.

So the amazingly talented and imaginative @jakeparker just finished a @kickstarter campaign for his new #skyheartcomic. This is the main character of the book “Wake” when I saw the character and the world that Jame created, it reminded me of a dope Super Nintendo RPG, and well, that will always inspire me. Lol. This was done during the Thanksgiving break, can’t get my above water enough right now to do any free drawings, so, gonna share the already done stuff.
