NOTICE

I thought it was kind of obvious that the blog is defunct, but I’m still getting submissions and stuff, so I figured I’d make an announcement. This blog is over.

It was a fun project for a while, but eventually it felt more like a chore and I spent the most minimal amount of time I could on it. Then one day I just let the queue run out.

I’m going to close submissions and the askbox, but the blog will stay up because, hey, it was fun having a blog to run that a lot of people wanted to see. The memories are still there. Thanks for coming along for the ride.

Marnie - Wolves

Marnie is the solo project of Ladytrons head vocalist Helen Marnie.

After her first album ‘Crystal World’ (here), which was released in 2013 via Les Disques de Crepuscule, she, now, released her first follow-up single ‘Wolves’, last week.

'Wolves' is the first taste of the upcoming album that Marnie planned for 2015. The sound of the track is a mixture of genres, you could already see on her last album. Marnie combines wave elements with the heavy use of synthesizers and some darker more witchier atmosphere on some parts of her tracks.

Some Great Reward by Depeche Mode is 30 today. Arguably the moment where the stadium goth-pop sound that would propel them to fame truly crystallized. While home to some of the band’s most well-known material (“People Are People,” “Master And Servant”), I tend to like the lesser-known album tracks better. Case in point, the Alan Wilder-penned “If You Want.” Here’s a live performance from Hamburg, Germany, from 1984.

I always wanted to write a space story loosely inspired by this. I think i’d be crap at it, technically, but I could bring the emotion. I couldn’t draw it though, I’ve known that for years.

Needless to say, it’s probably not going to happen… 6 year idea i think. Oy.
