This time, he described a CAMH patient as a “nutcase”:

As someone with lived experience of mental illness, and who is autistic (another group that Ford has publicly and viciously attacked), it is unacceptable for the leader of our province to refer to an individual with a mental health diagnosis this way.

I don’t give a shit what Doug Ford personally thinks about me, because he’s the very embodiment of ignorant white male privilege, but it is completely irresponsible for Ontario’s Premier to set this example of using stigmatizing language.

For my part, I don’t use the words “crazy”, “insane” or “retarded” to describe annoying or infuriating situations or experiences, because I know how dehumanizing it is to have your illness and life experience reduced to those words.

I will be telling the people in my life that come October, a vote for anyone but the NDP is a conscious choice to continue to make life more difficult for disabled Ontarians like me. I want them to think about what Ford’s Conservatives have done in Ontario, and the very real impact it is having on the poorest and most socially excluded of us. I want them to put a face to the people they are hurting by voting Liberal or Conservative.
