~Background~
You had been dating Seong je at the start of last school year. He wasn't perfect, he was quiet and distant but nonetheless a great boyfriend to you. Things were going good between the two of you. You felt good with him. Safe.Â
But then he started hanging around The Union boys. You heard all of the rumors of them. The bike thefts, fights for money, street deals. You saw it all. But it wasn't just the talk you visually saw a shift in his behavior, how he acted towards you. No matter how much you cared for him you refused to see him throw his life away. So you broke up with him for good. Or so you thought.
Nowadays you only see him in passing. He's from the school next to yours but he might as well have been from a whole other universe. You hear the talk about him how he's gotten stronger, taller, and how feared he is.Â
But then one day you hear rumors the leader -Na Beakjin- of the Union is dead. And geum Seongje has taken his place.

~Present~
You're on your way home from the local seven eleven. It wasn't too far from your home, only about a 10 minute walk. You didn't mind walking. In all honesty you loved it. Loved the feeling of the air nipping at your skin.Â
As you walked home, bag in hand you saw a figure standing under the streetlamp staring into your soul. You started becoming very anxious. Had they known you? Clearly they had to have known you with the way they were staring.Â
“Hello,” you called while lifting a cautious hand. Better to appear friendly then afraid. They could be a fucking serial killer for all you knew. Just waiting to pounce on you.Â
“Hey.” The greeting came out as more of a statement. But you recognized this voice. You knew exactly who this was standing in front of you. But was it a coincidence? What was Seongje doing right down the road from your house? Was he waiting for you? Surely not. Right?Â
“What are you doing here?”Â
You see a smirk start to creep across his face. Oh how you wanted to wipe that look right off his disturbingly handsome face. He takes slow calculated strides until you two stand toe to toe. His eyes rove over your face.
“Just taking a walk.” he drawls out. “Is this not a free country?”
“I didn't say that Seongje.” You were beginning to get irritated. You hadn't seen him in what felt like forever and here he stood being a sarcastic ass?
His smirk grows into a small, scoffing laugh. He folds his muscular arms across his chest, his gaze growing more intense by the second. You continued to stand your ground, your eyes never once leaving his face.Â
“Then why so suspicious huh? Are you trying to avoid me Y/N?” He tilts his head looking amused as ever.
“You're my ex…. Why exactly would I want to see you?”
You see the way his jaw slightly clenches at your words. Feeling happy with his reaction you grin.Â
Seongje leans into your ear. His voice drops to a quiet hiss. “Maybe because you miss me.” With that he leans back out folding his arms over his chest again.
You scoff, "You're being delusional. It's been months, 6 to be exact. I've lasted this long without you and I can last even longer.” There's no way he thought I missed him.
The confidence in your tone clearly made something in him snap. He forcefully uncrossed his arms and shoved his hands deep into his thick black hoodie. His eyes rake over you in a scathing look. You hadn't ever seen this look before. He looked like a mad man.Â
“Oh really,” he snaps his face back up to meet your eyes. “You think you can just forget me that easily?”
“I know I can.” Although you said this with the utmost confidence you could muster something deep within you knew it was a facade. You knew you couldn't forget him. You were having trouble forgetting him in the past 6 months. That wasn't normal for you. Any other guy you'd have forgotten them in less than a week. But there was something about you and Seongje. There was something different and you knew that for a fact.Â
His gaze is locked on you in a silent battle of wills. There's something feral in his expression, his eyes glinting with desire and defiance. He surprisingly steps closer causing you to crane your neck upward to maintain eye contact. You were unsure how he managed to do so with how close the both of you already were.Â
“Your lying Y/N”
You stood there for a moment in utter silence, neither of you speaking a word. Your neck was already beginning to hurt from having to keep eye contact. He was taller than you remembered. Maybe the rumors of him getting taller were true; he surely had gotten muscular compared to the last time you saw each other. You were lying. But he didn't need to know you missed him. Instead of continuing to lie you tried dismissing the conversation using your parents as the scapegoat.
“My parents are probably getting worried. I should get home,” you muttered. You tried moving past him. His hands shoot out gripping your wrist before you can move past him. His fingers were firm but not painful. His touch sent an electric shock through your skin.Â
“Ha parents? Nice try.” His grip tightens as he pulls you closer forcing you to face him again. “You never gave me answers back then. And you're just gonna run away again?”Â
He sounded almost sad. Maybe you had hurt him more than you thought you did. You hadn't meant to hurt him.
 “What questions?” you ask softly.
His fingers loosen the grip on your wrist after hearing your tone soften but he doesn't let go. He lets out a scoff, his voice taking on a slightly bitter tone. “Are you really pretending you don't know? Or are you that oblivious?”
“I’m oblivious? You aren't exactly being transparent.”
His jaw tightens, irritation flashing in his eyes. He steps even closer–close enough that you catch a faint scent of smoke lingering on him. Had he picked up smoking since joining the Union? It wouldn't surprise you if he had.Â
“You really want to do this now?” he grits out, voice low. “Fine” He inhales sharply through his nose before continuing.Â
“Why’d you leave without even trying to fix things?” His grip on your wrist finally vanishes as he rakes his hand through his hair. “Did i not matter at all?”
You looked him right in his eye while saying, "I could say the same to you. It's as if I didn't matter. You randomly joined the Union. Became bitter towards me and acted as if I was just some object to you that you could pick up and use as you pleased. News flash I am not an object Seongje”Â
You said every word with so much confidence. You had dreamt of this moment and here it was right in front of you. Hell, you were not going to just sit here and pretend like his actions didn't hurt you.Â
“Object?” he repeats incredulously. “You really think that's all you were to me?” There's a raw vulnerability in his voice now, the cold facade starting to crack. You preferred him this way, vulnerable and emotional. He swallows before continuing, his eyes burning into yours. “You were the only thing that made me feel alive, damn it.”
You were shocked. You stood there playing with your fingers unsure of what to say. Part of you felt bad for ending everything without trying to at least talk it out. On the other hand, he acted like a completely different person to you. You couldn't bear to see him acting like that and you surely wouldn't settle for his behavior.Â
The silence is heavy. The air is filled with unsaid words and unspoken emotions. He lifted his hand to your forearm, his thumb lightly stroking the area.Â
His voice is quieter when he speaks again, all of his frustration and defense from before replaced by silent pleading. “If it was so important, why did you give up so easily?”
You were quick to defend yourself, “You are important. I thought if I ended it that things would be better off. It felt like we both were expecting and needing different things.”
He turns his face the opposite direction and runs a hand through his hair tugging lightly at his scalp before he turns towards you again.Â
“But you didn't even ask what I needed,” he muttered, his voice ever so soft. “You just decided for me Y/N. I was never going to be the perfect guy,” he lets out a sad chuckle. “But I would've tried if you'd given me a chance.”
With that you broke. Your whole body shuttered as you let out a loud sob, “I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm sorry Seonggie.” You stared at your shoes as you broke down right in front of him.Â
He lifts your chin forcing you to look at him. He brushes the pad of his thumb across your face collecting your fallen tears. He wraps his arms around you melting into his warm embrace. He buries his face into your hair, his voice muffled.Â
“Stop apologizing,” His arms slightly tighten around you. “Just…. Dont leave me this time.”
You tearfully smile into his shoulder before saying, “I promise wont. As long as you promise me you'll act right this time.”
He pulls back just enough to cup your face in his hands. Just as a tear begins to run down your face he kisses it away. His expressionis ungaurded now –rare and raw.
“Tch.” he clicks his tongue, but there's no bite behind it anymore. “Yeah, Yeah… I promise. But youve got to promise me something too.” HIs voice drops to a whisper near your ear, “no more running away from me.”
His breath sends a shiver down your spine. He whispers again, “Promise me Y/N.”
You start nodding automatically, his simple command sending a flutter through you. “I promise.”Â
He leans back, smirking. But before you're able to mourn the loss of his touch he cups your face again, his gaze tearing into you. “Youre mine. You've always been. Don't forget that.” HIs words are possessive but there's a raw vulnerability there too–a quiet admission that he's just as scared of losing you again.Â
