i kinda hate the trope of “trans girl that we aren’t allowed to acknowledge as a trans girl” in anime. but i did get a kick out of kishimoto doubling down and just making haku. far more feminine when reintroduced in the war arc
#naruto#haku#part of this is just art style shift#kishimoto largely forgot how to draw fat on people’s faces#as well as rougher jawlines#so everyone looks slimmer and more delicate#compare part 1 hashirama to every later appearance that man used to be a DAD#but im choosing to ignore art style shift and would rather believe that there is estrogen in the pure lands

I will never understand why people think the idea that Naruto can't tell the difference between loving ramen and loving someone makes sense. It literally undermines his whole character. His strength comes from his love for his friends. Gaara started to respect Naruto because Naruto's love for his friends resonated with Yashamaru's words on love, leading Gaara to decide to change because of that love. Really, saying Naruto doesn't understand love is just pure retcon. Just look at those panels...

It's also very interesting that Naruto parallels both Gaara and Haku. Haku was really impactful on him.
#naruto#naruto uzumaki#sabaku no gaara#haku#this is one of the big ways that both anime and fanon writers consistently mischaracterize naruto#he is deeply emotionally intelligent from chapter 1#and motivated almost purely by love for PEOPLE#for all of kishi’s faults#hes really the only writer who gets it#and he doubled down with the minato one shot#his entire clan his seal his signature technique EVERYTHING is patched together with love for people

Ooh I do want to talk about this because I used to be really against the idea of Sarada awakening a Mangekyou Sharingan. The implication in the OG 700 chapters of Naruto is that the Mangekyou (and even the standard Sharingan to some extent) is an extension of Indra and his curse, something that Sasuke put an end to. His daughter still being affected by that curse feels wrong… unless Sarada’s Mangekyou Sharingan isn’t *really* a Mangekyou Sharingan. Like, her awakenings are weird. Her normal Sharingan was born out of desire to reconnect with a lost loved one and her Mangekyou was the same. It’s distinctly separate from the rage, betrayal and vengeance of the others. Additionally, the Uchiha has a moon motif going on with the. throughout the series to contrast the sunlight of the Uzumaki and Senju, which makes it very strange that Sarada’s Mangekyou is a sun pattern. It is really just shattering every rule and bit of logic we know about this and though I haven’t been known to be very kind to a lot of Boruto’s writing.. I don’t think that this is an accident. Just gotta wait and see.
So, it's news to no one that the Sharingan is representative of trauma. That's a level one Naruto fact. But I think not enough fans really appreciate how that's represented through what the Sharingan actually can do. Between projecting hellish nightmares into someone's mind and perfectly recording whatever the Uchiha sees, letting them flawlessly replay it over and over again... its main abilities seem to stem from PTSD symptoms. That's the core of what the Sharingan is and why it's so tragic.
The thing that *I* think is really cool about the Sharingan is that it has two branching evolutions. The Mangekyou Sharingan and the Rinnegan. A lot of people seem to think that the Rinnegan evolves from the Mangekyou, but that isn't really true, it is connected to the basic Sharingan and that's because the Rinnegan and Mangekyou are two different methods of processing trauma. The Mangekyou Sharingan doubles down on trauma and makes it integral to one's character. The visions it can project are even worse, the user grows in power with every negative thought and the user will gain two abilities directly feeding from their own personal trauma. Obito and Sasuke have different Mangekyou Sharingan abilities because the way that their worlds were destroyed were completely different. Obito feels like a ghost floating through a fake world, while Sasuke believes that the world is very real. It just need to be burned down and reshaped from the cinders. The one ability shared between every Mangekyou Sharingan user is Susano'o. It isn't a coincidence that the Kanji for this technique breaks down into "He With The Ability to Help Through All Means". It's the Mangekyou user's best friend.
Their own chakra.
Formed from hate.
And it brings them immense pain.
It's an incredibly lonely ability, the end of wallowing in hate and being unable to heal from trauma. Pain and Blindness are the only things that awaits someone who awakens a Mangekyou Sharingan, it's one of the most bleak and cynical things in the series.
So, is the Rinnegan a better way to conquer trauma? Lol. Lmao. So, whereas the Mangekyou Sharingan seeks to exploit the user's own trauma for drive and power, the Rinnegan is the rejection of trauma and all worldly matters. The rejection of death, the rejection of humanity, the rejection of basic rules that govern our world. It is complete and utter detachment with the end goal of becoming God and just leaving it all behind. But... it's cope. Madara was the only human character to naturally possess two Rinnegan. Nagato tried to be a god, but couldn't succeed because the eyes weren't his. Obito tried to become a God, but always kept his Mangekyou Sharingan because he couldn't let go of his trauma, he didn't want to. As unhealthy as it was to cling to this, Madara's goal is even worse. Even Sasuke who gets a Rinnegan independent of Madara, notably only gets one because he doesn't want to sever his ties to the past and wants to remember his trauma, remember what he wants to preserve and why. Only Madara's insane ass is truly resolved to leave it all behind in the name of becoming a God.

i think itakabu is an instance of kishimoto not planning a relationship and then realizing that it made sense later, so he’s kinda scrambling to make it work. i kinda like what it is in canon… but yeah its patched together with fan content lol

#also i think the dynamic works better as the culmination of the root vs sound battle that has been consistently going on with sasuke#like there’s an element of this conflict in every sasuke centric arc#so you get itachi and kabuto being the end result of both philosophies and both being miserable#which is what fuels sasuke’s idea to revolt against both for somethong new#so like. not super complete on its own but i like it with prior context#naruto

I like the idea of shinobi having varying outfits for missions in warmer or colder conditions, so here are some outfit variations for the Konoha teams!

Ok but the fact that Madara actually outlived Hashirama and knew he died and possibly saw his grave??? Listened to people whispering about the death of the God of Shinobi, understood that he didn't hear his last breath, wasn't with him in the last days of his life??

I DO think that no one wants to run the annoying ass chunnin exams, and that's on purpose to encourage the proctors to be evil demons. the deparments draw lots every five years to see who has to oversee and organize the chunnin exams this year, and when they inevitably get annoyed by the chore they get to take it out on the examinees with various bullshit, ensuring that every chunnin exams is as full of bullshit as possible.
