august cared more about james than james ever did about her and that makes me the saddest. james talks about her in such a nonchalant and unfeeling way (“like a figment of my worst intentions” “it was just a summer thing” “slept next to her but dreamt of you all summer long”) while august talks about james with such adoration and hope and hurt (“never needed anything more” “to live for the hope of it all / cancel plans just in case you call” “so much for summer love and saying us”). it’s the story of wanting someone who never intended to keep you in the first place. justice for august
