I can’t believe I didn’t post about Quirin being a grill dad at heart, and how everybody goes to his cookouts because his food is genuinely that serious.

I’m brainstorming if vi and her family were just canonically in tangled, right, forget the superhero agenda, it’s confusing me. I need this crossover to make a lick of sense. this is just brainstorm, I’ll keep working on it. ( +Virian stuff)

superpowers that they can’t talk about, those can stay. ( duh )

they’re rich, so I feel like the pretty dress I always put on Violet just makes…sense?

I think her family would be from Koto, solely because that kingdom is depicted with the standard American/Euro fairytale look ( at least, the royals are ). Violet is American, so it just makes sense that would be her origin kingdom.

Their association with Corona is completely up for discussion, but honestly? With all the magical business there ( i.e; sundrop lore ), it’s probably the one place having superpowers would be somewhat normal. maybe, I’m doing my best.

but I mean idk, maybe the superhero agenda can stay and they’ll just be known as “crusaders”. girl i don’t know.

I’m not gonna pretend Tony doesn’t exist, that subplot would go hard, sorry.

virian isn’t even a thing until season 3 and yes I’m the one who decided that but it still sucks. so my edits are basically season 3-core.

girl with unbreakable barriers meeting unbreakable golden hair and mysterious unbreakable rocks is a fun concept, I feel like. imagine confusing the ancients like “oh shit which incantation was that?” and it doesn’t even exist, she can just do that.

invisibility goes crazy, I don’t need to say more.

don’t ask me how she fits in the canon journey, just know she was there and helped out as best as she could. and varian was there too I think we can all agree on something here and twist the script a little. just hear me out, this could be good stuff.

Violet and Cass unironically being sisters that are mutually sick of this and want to go home, are probably stressing over the same people that aren’t getting with the program. ( they’re the realest ones here )

Violet thinks the science guy is really cool. Is she gonna say that? No. Keep it to herself for 2 seasons because his intense crashout threw her off? Yes. They have 1 season to make this work while also supporting the main plot and time management is hard? Also yes.

Do they know they have 30 minutes??

Guys, they kiss I promise and it’s beautiful.

Violet being unable to participate in songs because she can’t sing. Or it’d be funny if she suddenly can because tangled is mainstream Disney and Pixar doesn’t usually have singing, so who knows? Maybe she sings.

Bob and Quirin both having crazy backgrounds with secrets. I want the dads to bond. Helen, too. They all hang out, trust.

I’m kind of retiring from this fandom soon but I’m still gonna talk about it, and I have a hot take that some might hate, and this is from me having really cool discussions with my friend.

Varian is defended way too much. More than he deserves, even.

And this is coming from someone who used to VOUCH for him in conversations, too. But it’s time for a needed change of heart.

Something that’s said a LOT, is the fact that Varian was punished for his crimes, while Catalina (Red) and Kiera (Angry), were sort of let off the hook.

Catalina and Kiera are very clearly a couple of prepubescent children when they debut, while Varian is a full on teenager who CAN be held criminally responsible. So no, King Frederic was not being a dick. It depends on how that works in some countries, but for theirs, that’s clearly just how it works. And it makes sense.

Varian also did noticeably worse things than they did, or should I tell you to look up his criminal history? Because let’s not forget he very nearly murdered the queen for the sake of saving his father, who very well could’ve stayed dead by the end of the series. Let’s be lucky the hurt incantation even exists and worked on the amber.

Next, Rapunzel cannot be putting her royal duties as princess below Varian. And putting this one character on a pedestal is part of the problem.

An infamous scene in the series is when Varian travels through the blizzard to get help from Rapunzel, while Quirin is actively dying back in Old Corona, and she literally cannot go because she’s in charge of the kingdom, didn’t know this blizzard was going to happen, is worried about her parents who could be dead, just sent her boyfriend and her other friends to go possibly die, nearly lost her only childhood companion trying to fix said storm and save everyone. There’s a lot happening, a lot of possible death happening, one definite one, it’s a lot. Yes…Varian is technically one of her citizens, and yes she did make a promise that we’re lucky she was able to keep later on. But she couldn’t go.

(Edit: Thank you [TangledBea] for specifying that she didn’t explicitly promise to help with Quirin, but that she would help with the rocks when she isn’t so busy. Because she didn’t know that’s what would happen and that just furthers the point. The situation was twisted entirely)

And what I see NO ONE talk about, is the fact that if she did abandon her post to go and see what was wrong, the result would be the same. There would be nothing she could do, she wouldn’t even understand what went wrong, and then there’s no one at the palace to make the big decisions. Quirin would still be long dead already and there’s no way they’d be able to run all those tests, Rapunzel would not be able to ignore the ongoing and worsening blizzard outside.

And before anyone says that Rapunzel could’ve told Varian about the Demanitus device—he did not care about the blizzard altogether. He’s not paying attention to Demanitus when his father is dying.

And my favorite line— “She could’ve gone to check on him!!”

And do what?

We need to understand the result would be the same. It was too late for Quirin. He went out saving his son, he went out being Varian’s father.

And…Varian switched up as SOON as he saw it was too late. Checking on him wouldn’t matter. It was too late for Varian, too. Because even if she checked on him, she still didn’t keep her promise in his eyes.

“She could’ve checked on him but took a painting lesson instead”

Did we watch the episode??? Rapunzel wasn’t in a painting class for shits and giggles. Like God forbid the PRINCESS OF CORONA…has things to do.

When Varian sent them to get the scrolls, she saw Quirin. She did see what happened, and even so…there still isn’t a THING she can do. There isn’t even time to assess the situation. It’s over.

It would all just be filler that does absolutely nothing for the plot, besides bring too much attention to a situation that can’t even be handled for another 2 seasons.

Varian also…doesn’t listen. So in that unlikely scenario, she’d be unable to do anything and Varian would still begging and reminding her that she promised, and it would all be the same.

Honestly, we should take that as great writing because no matter the changes you make, the outcome will be the same, because that’s just who Varian was.

The Cassandra situation.

I’m only bringing this up because I mentioned Catalina and Kiera earlier. Cassandra didn’t serve time in prison for all that she did when she betrayed Rapunzel. And I still fully agree that she should have been penalized for all of that, but I also haven’t heard any opposing opinions or other perspectives on it. But I CAN share my findings that have helped me cope and understand that ending better.

There’s a big difference between Cass and Varian, and it’s how many people they’ve had behind them supporting them from the get-go.

Cassandra has had Rapunzel, Eugene, her father, the guards, the king and queen, all their other companions behind her since day one. While Varian was said to have a bad reputation before his face was even shown for the first time. So in comparison to Cass, Varian had no one.

When it came to Cassandra’s moon arc, of course everyone that loves her and has loved her since the beginning, wouldn’t want to hurt her, give up on her, or by the end of the series, lock her away. There’s too many people on her side. Whereas when it came to Varian, nobody really knew him long enough or well enough to have the same sentiments. He’s not known as a beloved and respected figure and hasn’t been from the beginning.

Something I wanna add that has nothing to do with Cass; Varian’s appearance shouldn’t be enough to sway opinions, either. If he looked even half as average as some of the background characters, I don’t think anyone would feel as strongly. But as soon as you see a cute looking character with big puppy eyes, suddenly they don’t deserve any criticism or punishment for the heinous things they did, or they “deserve better” just because they’re too cute to be treated poorly. Varian wouldn’t even relish in that light if fans were able to say that to his face, because he would want to be more than that, and that’s probably the funniest part.

That’s all I have for the moment, I’ll add things later if I have anything to add. I’d love for anyone to add their own thoughts and opinions because I really like having good talks about my favorite stuff. But I want to hear unbiased opinions, please. And be nice.

And if anyone has already made these points and I just didn’t see, I apologize.

YOUNGER QUIRIN HEADCANONS (10-15 YEARS OLD)

(Yeah I’m that much of a Quirin fanatic that I made up all this lore)

• Quirin grew up with both parents, Samuel and Giselda Alderidge, and was the youngest of four kids with two older sisters and one older brother (in order) Cecelia, Alina, and Phoenix. The sisters always favored Quirin because he was a sweetheart in comparison to Phoenix. Quirin was always closest with Cecelia.

• Childhood buddies with Hector. Met him when he was 14 years old and found out that Hector was orphaned at 9 years old. Hector was surprisingly clingy towards Quirin and was always the rowdier of the two, as well the most troublesome. (Quirin’s been the voice of reason since day one.) He actually offered for Hector to stay with him and his family, but Hector preferred to be on his own. Of course if he changed his mind, he was always welcome.

• He used to have a journal of his own that he used to document almost everything in. It was given to him by his parents when he was 10 years old. Even if all he did was lounge and rest one day, he’d write about it. He would also tape some Polaroids of him and his family on the pages. He brought it everywhere with him, it was like his signature accessory. However, his journaling stopped when when he was around 23; and it got lost in the crumbling dark kingdom. It’s still there somewhere in present day.

• Being the most beloved by his sisters, and the baby of the family, Quirin was forever coddled by them, as well as heavily protected. Because of this, Quirin developed a tendency to sneak off from them and do as he pleased anyway. He was too sweet to tell them off, and despite being obedient most times, he was a child and wanted to explore.

• Was called “Little Q” by Cecelia and Alina, and “Rin” by Phoenix.

• Ironically enough, was terrified of the dark when he was little, but grew out of it by age 13.

• His mother (Giselda) was a guard in the Dark Kingdom’s palace, which would serve as a blueprint for Quirin learning to sword fight and eventually be in the brotherhood. Also prompts his relationship to King Edmund.

• Was especially good at playing the guitar and would sing to his mother and sisters all the time.

• Got into more trouble than normal at around 15 years solely because of Hector and often times Phoenix as well.

MY ENCASED! QUIRIN HEADCANONS

(Totally cool if you disagree, just don’t be a dick about it)

• For a short while, Quirin was holding on to what little life he had left in the amber and could actually hear anyone that may have been in the room with him. It was muffled, of course, but he could just faintly hear them. So he heard Varian’s cries when he found him, everything that went down with Fredric, Arianna, and Rapunzel.

• He was able to make very small sounds, like grunting and wheezing in some attempt to get anyone’s attention if they were in there, i.e, Varian’s. For a moment, you might think you heard something, but the sounds would stop right after due to how difficult it is. He was also in a lot of pain so those noises were from that as well.

• Quirin was alone with his thoughts for the last moments he had alive, and all he could think about were the moments leading up to his encasing, Varian suddenly not coming back into his lab, and he just wanted to know if his son was okay.

• He shed a singular tear right before actually dying.

• Instead of his own life flashing before his eyes, he only had little snippets of Varian’s childhood play back. Simply because all he could think about was him. Which sucks in itself because Quirin wasn’t mentally present for most of Varian’s due to him grieving his late wife.

• He could hear his slowing heartbeat in his ears, beating over and over. He mentally counted how many beats it would be before he died.

• It wasn’t the dying part he was scared of, as he accepted it the moment the amber touched him. He was more so afraid of Varian being alone.

• If his closeness with Varian was better, maybe it wouldn’t have been as emotionally painful. He literally fought with Varian before getting encased, so he faults himself for not providing the necessary comfort, reassurance, and trust to his son. Even despite how visibly affectionate Varian would be towards him.

BREAK FOR A DATE — A VIRIAN ONE SHOT (No clue if I’m gonna finish this but I wanted to post it because I never did.)

[ Modern AU, Located in Corona ]

It wasn’t that he regretted his decision. God no, he was off the walls that Violet even said yes. What he regretted was being completely disorganized; nothing particularly new with him, but the least he could do is have some idea of where he’s taking this girl on a date.

Two days; Varian had two days to come up with an idea he never had in the first place, just to lose track of the time. Some time management skills would really come in handy right now, but the only occasions where he’s made time for other things involved important business or maybe his own personal interests. It was rare that he had spare time like this, where he wasn’t showing off his work or helping out with some huge nationwide problem. This was a date. He’d be setting down his supplies, looking away from his work, going out, having fun. He’d realize this was a break! And while he kind of hated taking breaks, he didn’t hate Violet. But now he’d potentially disappoint her as well as himself.

He’d spent the last few days working on something for a party Rapunzel was throwing that weekend. A “just because” party, she says, it wasn’t for anything in particular. He got so caught up in his inspiration, he barely even realized the day of his date had come.

Now he only had mere hours, and not even enough to come up with something big or extravagant. Not that it needed to be, that was just the panic talking.

“You need date ideas!?” Large smiles were plastered on Eugene and Lance’s faces, as they repeated Varian’s request just after he made it. Varian blinked a couple of times.

“That would be nice, yes.” He clasped his hands together with a rather urgent smile, urging them to skip the excited theatrics and help him out. Time wasn’t entirely on his side right now.

“Wait…you planned a date but didn’t-“ Eugene started, a hand pressing to his chin in thought before Varian started waving his hands in the air.

“Shush! I know where the problem is, but Rapunzel is throwing that Because Party and- just please! I really don’t have a lot of time, I only have until evening..” he exclaimed, his words almost jumbling together.

“Right, yes, of course. Don’t you worry, Varian, Lance and I have the perfect idea!” Eugene went behind Varian and enthusiastically placed his hands on his shoulders, before looking at Lance with a cheeky wink. “You thinking what I’m thinking?”

“Only if you’re thinking what I’m thinking!” He replied with the same cheeky wink, Varian darting his eyes between the two as he’s unsure if he should be intrigued or scared.

“Geez, how much further?” Varian asks, growing a bit impatient and irritated with Lance’s hands over his eyes. He can hear the hustle and bustle of a crowd around them, mostly from the smaller voices of laughing children or the flirtatious giggles and gossips from fellow teenagers. The amusement park?

“Not much farther, Varian; as a matter of fact, we have arrived! I’ve found this is super popular with the younger fellas, so what better place to take your ladyfriend?” Eugene says confidently as he stops in place, Lance finally removing his hands from Varian’s eyes.

The youngest of the three squinted a bit, his eyes readjusting to the sunlight as he gazed up at a large fortress colored with reds, pinks, a few splashes of white here and there, and littered with heart-like designs as well as lovey animatronics. His expression dropped, as opposed to the absolutely awestruck looks on Eugene and Lance’s faces. It was as though they’d seen it for the first time. Varian, on the other hand, had already seen enough.

“It’s….The Love Tunnel.” He said finally, his tone flat and undeniably unimpressed.

“Exactly!” Lance exclaimed, going to Eugene’s side as they stood proudly with their hands on their hips. Varian deeply inhaled, briefly closing his eyes as he turned to face the other two.

“No.” He said simply, furrowing his eyebrows. Lance gasped loudly, louder than Eugene did.

“What do you mean no? It’s The Love Tunnel!” Lance motioned to the romance-themed ride.

“Exactly!” Varian mimicked before taking a deep breath, “Violet’s not gonna like The Love Tunnel, she’s too cool for that. And I don’t mean that to make her sound snobby and stuck up, I mean that she’s genuinely too cool for this. And, heh, not to toot my own horn but, frankly so am I!” Varian‘s tone ranged from fairly serious to sarcastic towards the end as he made exaggerated hand gestures. At the end of his small rant, he had his arms firmly folded over his chest.

“Varian, Varian, Varian, girls dig The Love Tunnel! I mean, it’s a classic! It gets them every time! The atmosphere, the mood..” Eugene wraps an arm around Varian’s shoulders.

“Yeah! Just imagine; it’s twilight..you meet each other here at the amusement park..just the two of you in one small boat, cruising down the waters of the tunnel, dim lights, slow music, the cute little animatronics singing love songs to you as she gazes into your eyes and bats her eyelashes, and you lean in like-” Lance agreed, before going into detail about what they could experience inside. Except he stopped mid sentence when he noticed Varian looked no less than unconvinced, unimpressed, and yet a bit flustered with where his description went as a soft red color dusted his cheeks.

“Right. So romantic.” The younger commented sarcastically with a subtle eye roll, “Of all places, The Love Tunnel is not where I’d wanna *set the mood*..”

“Can you believe he rejected The Love Tunnel!?” Eugene exclaimed, flailing his arms as he paced around Rapunzel’s room. The princess was contently painting on a new canvas, while Cassandra leaned against the wall with one leg propped up and her arms crossed. Rapunzel took a moment the smile sheepishly with a small shrug of her shoulders.

“I do love that ride but it is a little cheesy, Eugene..” she said in an ‘I don’t want to hurt your feelings’ sort of way. Cassandra chuckled.

“At least his brain isn’t only good for alchemy and weird inventions. You know it’s bad when even the youth says no to it.” She commented, raising a brow with a smirk to get under Eugene’s skin.

“But it’s The Love Tunnel!” Eugene countered, this time sounding a little more heartbroken, though the girls knew he wasn’t all that serious about it. They hoped, at least.

“Yeah, but do you really think kids like them are gonna be swooning on The Love Tunnel? This is Varian and Violet we’re talking about, ya know?” Rapunzel replied, optimistic as ever as she set down her paint brush. Even Pascal, sat on her shoulder, nodded his head in agreement.

“Please, do say The Love Tunnel at least a thousand times more…” Cassandra commented, growing tired of hearing it.

“And who invited her here?” Eugene, motioned to Cass, Rapunzel approaching him and taking his hands into hers.

“Why don’t you let me help out? I’ll plan something real great for them, and I’ll need you guys to pitch in so it turns out perfectly! I didn’t mean for him to get so caught up in the party this weekend, but I guess it can’t be helped when his brain is working.”

Varian was getting restless, tapping his foot while his arms ached from holding the abundance of prizes he and Violet won. The said girl joined him at his side, her own arms occupied with her purse and a rather large stuffed bear.

“So uh…why’d go on that again?” Violet asked, nodding her head to the dreaded love tunnel. Varian couldn’t even look her in the eyes when she asked, it was just embarrassing.

“Last resort.” He mumbled, looking around anxiously.

“Right. Um-“

“You look — very pretty, by the way.” Varian quickly snapped his head to her, a sheepish grin across his cheeks. Violet smiled, but it was clear this wasn’t news to her.

“Thanks, V, you uh…said that about a dozen times over the course of us going on every single ride here. Is the big surprise ready, I’m getting antsy?” Violet replied as she took a couple of items from his hands. Varian only stammered a little, visibly unsure of what to tell her.

It was all starting to sound like a lie. He made sure to go on every ride (except the kiddie ones),
