KOSA/the kids online safety act has been reintroduced into legislature after it passed Senate last year and then got snubbed. It is not unlike the bill that just passed in the UK a few weeks ago. If you don't want what happened in the UK to happen here, now would be a good time to vocally oppose it.

Here is a petition that can be signed by Americans. Attached to the petition is an easy tool that allows you to call and leave messages for your representatives. I have already done so. You can also email your representatives by searching for their name, most have message submission boards as well. This thing died once, it can die again.

sorry if i'm gonna be quiet for a while. my country recently introduced laws that make it so that in order to use social media to the fullest (not being able to view ns/fw content and in a few cases, not even having access to dms), i HAVE to give the sites my id/face scan.

it goes into effect july 25th. it'll probably effect here too, since this place allows mature content (tho not full on ns/fw)

i'm very distressed about it bc i might end up not even being able to talk to my internet friends. i don't really have any irl ones

if i have to disappear on most socials by then, you know why.

Reminder that the only reason "hermaphrodite" is even used in biology is because some zoologists a couple hundred years ago were were too lazy to come up with a new term to talk about how snails reproduce, and instead opted to compare them to intersex people. (Which were, at the time, ONLY called hermaphrodites. The word intersex didn't exist yet.)

Hermaphrodite has referred to intersex people since before we knew what a gamete was.

It wouldn't fucking kill you to use cosexed/cosexual, dichogamous, monoecious, gonosimulite, or whatever else to talk about animal species that have dual reproductive function. You don't need to contribute to a slur for us staying normalized.

This bill has already passed the House by a single vote and is now heading to the Senate. If enacted, it will have devastating consequences:

• Eliminates federally funded gender-affirming care for both trans youth and adults on Medicaid, stripping away essential healthcare services. Even if your insurance wants to cover your care, they will be forced to stop if this passes. No more insurance covering anything transition related, no surgeries, no HRT.

• Imposes strict work requirements on Medicaid recipients, jeopardizing coverage for those unable to meet these demands due to health issues or caregiving responsibilities.

• Slashes funding for SNAP and other assistance programs, exacerbating food insecurity among low-income families.

• Provides substantial tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy, while offering nothing but huge tax increases to middle- and low-income households, thereby increasing economic inequality.

This legislation prioritizes the interests of the wealthy and powerful at the expense of marginalized communities. It’s imperative that we take action; frankly I don’t even know if we can change anything at this point but let me be clear, the pushback still matters. Do not let the government think they can do these things unwatched.

Do not under any circumstances, argue with fascists.

You will never win because they do not want to change their minds. All they want is to have an argument- to make their position seem rational and normal

Correct fascist misinformation only when the fascists themselves aren't present or the target of the information. So they won't be automatically platformed for running their mouths in response.

Treating fascist ideas with any sort of dignity normalizes them as a rational opinion that normal people have. These are not normal ideas. Do not treat them as such.

Do not provide fascist arguments with detailed rebuttals with evidence and sources and explanations as to why they are wrong.

Do not let them put you in a position where you have to be the one on defense, rather, just call them what thry are: Nasty annoying douchebags that are being hateful.

Shut down their stupid hateful arguments by calling them fucking stupid and hateful and refusing to give them the time of day.

Let them make a fool of themselves by trying to prove their obviously bigoted bullshit talking points aren't bigoted bullshit.

The proper response to "immigrants are rapist criminals that need to be deported" is not to provide statistics about how productive immigrants are and how few crimes they commit. The proper response is "what the fuck is wrong with you, you racist fucking asshole".

My daughter Lama, with a heart as pure as a flower, carries pain greater than her years. She was injured in the war, and a metal plate was placed in her small hand. But the pain doesn't stop there... She needs care, medicine, food... and we have nothing. No medicine, no food, not even a loaf of bread.
