A story of landscape architecture student
Hi, Yulakis here. I’m Malaysian and very new in this blogging world. However, I am really eager to share with you guys my story of being a landscape architecture student.
I’ve been in this field for 4 years and I have 6 months experience intern in one of the landscape consultancy. Let me tell you what, as life is, its no rainbow or unicorns or butterflies, nor happiness. What I can define in the design and built industry is sacrifice your time, money, and energy. All of these are needed to invest yourself in this course. I’m not saying it is a bad decision, I’m telling you, if you think you can do whatever it takes to be in this field, then you have to be prepared.
Its gonna be malay and english (dwibahasa) writing here. I want to engage with all of you guys. So blame me whatever you want. Its me who want to do the telltale.
Tumblr media
Masa first year, saya belajar basic design, graphic communication, concept development, art style , introduction to LA, sejarah senibina, dan byk benda berkaitan alam bina. Atas tu image references sahaja. Well, that’s learning. Student always had a hard time. Well to bad as when you have grown up and involved in the industry, you will have a hard time to get into a career. You need to ensure your family is tolerant of your less spend time with them. You will be questioned every single time by your co-workers, boss, and other professions or clients. You work very hard 15hours a day and almost hardly find a day off because you have a huge responsibility.
I’m not saying only this profession, other professions also had come towards this problem. But they see opportunity in it, it's generating money and building a career. If your closest one said to you this,
“It's your work or me?” said my fiancee.
Well, let me tell you. Which one is replaceable?
Your career or your fiancee?
Don’t be mad. I’m just wanna clarify things for you guys. If this moment happens, talk to them either family or any of your loved ones,
“I work because I want to give all of us a better life. It’s time-consuming but please believe in me. I’m doing this for a reason. Just give me time and support.”
I have dealt with this. It’s sad. I decided to resign. it's a mistake and I am unemployed. hmmm...
Apapon, hidup jgn asyik nak nangis je (sebenarnya nangis) kena mara ke  hadapan. Saya nasihat kan eh
“It’s not about who is the best, most talented or brightest, but if you don’t have the stamina, you better step out of it”.
This is what my lecturer told me. You will hear this. Sesiapa yang rasa x minat tu saya sarankan anda semua lebih baik keluar daripada course ini dan cari course yang lebih baik. Well, he’s right though. He is considerate. Some of our batch quit at 2nd year because he/she knows they can’t cope. So they leave.
Enough of this bickering!
Computer
Korang kena ada laptop yang power. i5 and graphic card nvidia or radeon ke itu sudah memadai. Sesapa yg kumpul duit tu, belilah laptop yang power. Rm 3000 pon ok. Sebab kenapa? Sebab mcm2 software korang kena guna untuk studio project or assignment. Kalau laptop lompek, mmg x lepas, paling pon kerja korang lambat pastu stress x tentu pasal. Pastu buat2 histeria atau pengsan masa present. Kalau nak salahkan lecturer bagi kerja byk sgt, well sorry to say, masa kerja nanti lagi susah and endless kerja korang. Mostly semua kerja nk esok. Apa kejadah. Masa belajar tu, kira ok lagi lah sebab tau deadline and bila korang graduate. Kerja ni full-time.
Antara software digunakan:
1.Autocad/GstarCAD
Tumblr media
Benda ni korang crack bayar rm 10-15 tu dah fully functionable. Biasanya kitorg minta daripada senior atau kawan pandai benda2 mcm ni. Ada installer tu boleh buat bisness hehe...
Autocad atau gstar ni yg original dia dah rm15,000. I’m not kidding. Baru subscription per month or annual. Why? Korang igt nk develop software ni mudah ke? Benda diorg buat secara raw as a tool for us untuk bekerja. Kalau boss masa intern atau kerja ada kata “jgn ko bg main masuk je org mana2 dari luar tu.” Huh, tu sbb software yg digunakan dalam ofis tu crack and diorg takut ada orang audit AutoCAD dtg tgk. Kalau terkena, kena bayar saman beribu ringgit sebab pakai software crack x pakai ori.
Tp sapa mampu nk beli software yg sama harga kereta boleh berjalan tu kan?
2. Photoshop/Indesign/Illustrator

Chapter 1: Money Flow Management
You always ran out of money just before the end of the month?
Or you always have enough money left in your bank account?
Whatever it is, no matter what the answer is, you always have to analyze your total income compared to your total spending.
Tumblr media
money is a tool that you really need to invest for yourself.
Financial Flow Management? What is that?
It is a process that you need to monitor, examine and adjust your money flow. There are 2 main components,
1. In-flow (Income/Salary)
1a) Active income (needs effort and impact to earn profit or salary)
Tumblr media
Work with effort gives income based on the result or monthly-payed
1b) Passive income (requires little to no effort to earn and maintain)
Tumblr media
2. Outflow (Spending/Pay/Purchase)
2a. Fixed Expenses
(You know your must-pay expense eg: monthly house-loan, rent, premium insurance, or hiring babysitter)
2b. Manipulative Expenses
(Changes by monthly, eg: food, clothes, utility bills, other household goods.)
2c. Considerable expenses
(You have choices. Not all can be spent to fulfill your satisfaction. eg: subscription TV channel, air-conditioner, branded garments, outing)
