Or guns.
Say what you want about pirates, but their politicking is at least easy to understand. Amazing how many problems can be solved over a game of cards, a drink, or a pile of credits.

I always know it's going to be a unique transmission when someone from Comms has to hand me a reference page.
Well friend, there seems to have been some confusion, so let me reiterate my official stance on the Abyss: 'I'm not going there'; no matter how much it longs for me.
Get in line. I've already got a bunch of potential suitors who love my roguish charm.

My toxic trait is that I get a special thrill out if spinning out frigates by overclocking my thrusters and just straight ramming their engine block. There's an art to getting the angle of it, y'know? And the spectacle of it, especially on the lighter craft. Divine.
Wouldn't want to have to be in charge of scrubbing the decks afterwards though, if you catch my drift.

thinking about how each faction's capital ships are nearly representative of their faction and their doctrine itself.
Onslaught, the pride of the hegemony, represents aggression and ego. It charges into the enemy with no regard for itself or other ships, and while it is able to swat away fighters, frigates, and missiles with ease, ranged weapons are its worst nightmare, much like how the Hegemony struggles with factions not within its grasp.
The Conquest is scary at first, but push back on it and it can no longer fight. It represents how the Persean League paints themselves as a powerful independent force, but is more of a schoolyard bully who "suggests" you to either join, or have your faction starved out with blockades. (personally the blockades are easy to deal with but that is probably because i have a lot of guns and a small-ish system)
The Paragon, the flagship of Tri-Tachyon, is expensive, high tech, and shield-dependent. Without the shield it is nothing, but with it, it is everything. Their dependence on technology is everything to Tri-Tachyon, their innovations simultaneously benefitting many and handicapping the ships not fully integrated into Tri-Tachyon's high-tech ecosystem.
The Invictus, the brick of guns belonging to the Luddic Church. They command immense power, and are difficult to deal with without extensive practice, flanking maneuvers, and things that come naturally with becoming a master of the fleet. But you, player, have achieved far greater than a simple well-ranged brick of large guns? Have faith. Or perhaps not, depending on what technological advancements you have integrated with yourself...
The Luddic Path. Aggression made manifest. The Retribution is almost a perfect capital ship for them. An exploding charge detonated behind the ship with no regard for anything behind it propels the ship forward, unto either doom or glory, bringing huge guns to bear against anyone they deem has not walked the Path. Its willingness to leave behind fellow Pathers for the sake of destroying those who oppose the Path's violent tendencies is a good summary of both those who join the Luddic Path and those who pilot the Retribution.
The Executor. A stolen Persean League Pegasus, converted to be an energy-heavy loadout with two Gigacannons. An overwhelming showing of strength, but these ships often come with a major downside. For the ships itself, it is mostly d-mods. The Gigacannons themselves have a long recharge time, and the Kinetic Blasters do not do quite the armor damage that their Heavy counterparts have, however impressive the Kinetic Blaster's shield damage may be. Perhaps this is a bit pretentious, but maybe it's symbolic of the Diktat's surface appeal, with little regard for planning over using overwhelming force.
The Atlas MK.2. A stripped down behemoth logistics ship converted to holding as many guns as it can. Their resourcefulness and aggression is almost commendable. Almost. However, that ship has crossed you. The shield projector is weak, its flux grid lackluster, and the beams of that ship are begging to be cut apart by a high-intensity laser. Get to it, commander. Another scrapped MK.2 to add to the pile.

A measured response:
NO THANK YOU RETURN TO SENDER.
Comrade, let me tell you: I've fought from one end of the sector to the other, seen all manner of thing that any inner core landlubber would go weak in the knees to just hear of, and stared down Lady Kanta in her very own court (it's a little game we play, she likes the novelty of it).
You couldn't pay me enough to take my fleet into the Abyss.

Eyebrow quirked, the captain watches with a tempered uncertainty as the knight's form is revealed. She looks away from their trembling form, shooting the whole of Hesperus a disparaging look out the window before setting her helmet aside and patting the bed.
"Sit, friend," she gently urges. "Hard to do the checks you if you're on the floor, and it's not as comfortable as the mattress to boot."
She's moving now, taking notes on the knight's condition, readying the handheld scanner.
"And, on the contrary: my crew's nothing but bastards and nobodies; everyone the rest of the sector considers undesirable and unworthy."
She pauses, gaze lingering squarely on their weeping wounds when she concludes: "You don't have to repent just to exist, not here."

The quarters afforded to the knight are pleasant: a proper bed with soft sheets, personal storage, a private bathroom, and even leg room.
There isn't much time to enjoy it yet, though. Shrike isn't long behind, carrying a small plastic crate with a clipboard and a basic handheld medical scanner, which she sets on the bed as soon as she gets in.
"I'll make this quick, but first," she says, reaching up towards her helmet, "I'll make it fair."
She carefully pops a series of latches, releases a safety, and pulls up.
In comparison to the maned canid visage, she looks shockingly normal; the Shrike in the suit is a sharp featured woman with a dark complexion, long black hair pulled up into a high bun, slightly silvering at the temples.
She gives the knight a warm smile. "The scanner won't work through hardsuits. Helmet off, please," she asks, tone reassuring.

It's not for you, it's for the crew. Any amount of travel's a long time being stuck together in tight quarters, and it's too easy for sick to get dragged aboard and spread around.
[Shrike gives the knight a once over. Realizing, she sighs into her suit's vocoder.]
You do look like death, knight. Get your rest. The second you're up you'll be getting that check though. It takes five minutes: it's for disease, I don't care whatever else you've got going on.
safe. thank providence i'm safe thank god
