Thinking about the saying "God never gives you anything that you aren't equipped to handle"
But if life is all about learning & growth, then going through smth you're already equipped to handle isn't conducive to growth bc you already have the skill/mindset
A better quote would he "you become equipped to handle what God sends you, by going through what God sends you" (or something to that effect) but that's not motivational lol

Random as a cinephile .. if warner brothers wants to win an Oscar for sinners ( they have a huge opportunity) they need to start campaigning now. * they should campaign to get Miles Caton / Jayme / Jack to perform too*
The wicked performance carried the Oscars 25
The date for first submissions deadline for a nomination was 8/14 and final voting is in February 2026

Jayme Lawson as Pearline.
“She is a performer. She is a sharecropper who was married off young to an older gentleman and seeks to find her life in these kinds of juke joints. That’s where she seems to come alive. That’s where she tends to have some level of freedom.”-Jayme Lawson.
Sinners (2025) │ Directed by Ryan Coogler.

I want to fight Warner Brothers ! look at this beautiful face; Wunmi Mosaku should’ve been in every press interview for sinners! Delroy / Miles should’ve been there too ! The story is about Sammie told from the POV of smoke / stack with narration by Annie. No one asked Ryan Coogler why he made Annie the narrator either .. ughhh

This video will forever trip me out. Her arm ticked right after his and they both moved their eyes at the same damn time! It's like their energy is just in sync with each other. Like they're connected or something 😭😭😭

Another reason I respect Sinners is how Pearline is treated.
She is a married woman that sleeps with Sammy, when she dances and sings she does it in a seductive/sexy way but she is never treated or viewed as a negative figure. She isn’t a whore, or a slut, and she isn’t viewed as a temptation to Sammy.
In fact, the only part of the movie where you are supposed to disagree or (maybe) dislike Pearline is when she doesn’t want to eat the garlic. The movie makes us grieve her when she is killed.
Any other horror movie would have given her a brutal death, it would have been “deserved”.
Instead, Sinners goes out of its way to show that she is a human being, and despite her sins we love her. Decades after she is killed, Sammy names his bar after her despite knowing her for one day. The movie honors her.

Producers will think of any and every reason to not tell Black stories even when they prove they can be successful again and again.
I'm legit afraid that they wont adapt Bitter Root now because stupid people will say it's too much like Sinners, even though the similarities end at "Black horror set in the 30s" (although to keep it a buck I don’t think they were going to adapt it anyway)
And I'm getting off track here but I'm also worried that the only woman in the film that will have a career boost from Sinners is Hailee. Hollywood is constantly hand wringing about the potential of Black actors and women suffer the most from this.
And to get even more off track I just have to say, I adore Sophie Thatcher, I think she's great, but I can't imagine a monoracial Black girl her age getting the same opportunities that she's gotten recently. She's already starring in movies, not as a side character, as the main character. Companion didn't even do that well at the box office but I'm sure that wont stop her from landing more roles and soon.
It shouldn't feel like a distant dream for Jayme Lawson, the only Black actress under 30 in Sinners to land a starring role in something. I'm really looking forward to The Running Man but I know to keep my expectations for her screentime low, and that makes me sad.

LOLOLOL Y'all cuttin' up 😂😅🤣😭
Just for fun 😭
People gathered around Club Juke, bodies pressed against each other as they danced without a care in the world, heels and polished loafers hitting the floor in sync, creating music of their own.
Stack pushed past several people determined to get to Mary, to put her out just as his brother said.
As soon as he approached and opened his mouth to speak the conversation quickly got heated, his attempts to coax her out gently only making her angrier.
“You taught me how to fight, you know i’ll beat every bitch in here!” She spoke a lot louder than she thought.
Slim’s fingers halted on the piano keys and Sammie’s hands fell to his sides, stopping the strumming of his guitar.
Everyone’s heads whipped around in Mary’s direction, eyes narrowing at the woman, daring, challenging her to say more.
“Repeat that one more time, i don’t think we heard you good cause i know you didn’t say what i think you said.” A woman nearest to her got into her face, arms crossed impatiently.
“You gone whoop… WHO?” Every woman in that club asked in unison.
“Nobody.” Mary muttered, looking down at her shoes defeated.
“That’s what we thought.” They all kissed their teeth.
The music started back up and everyone continued to dance, not an ounce of worry or fear in their hearts.
That day was the first AND last time Mary ever threatened anyone behind Stack.

"This film was an incredible opportunity for me. And more than anything, I thought it was an opportunity for me to write a love letter to cinema, to all the things I love about going to the movies. [...] In many ways it's most important movie I've made, straight for me to all of you." - Ryan Coogler
