do you ever just think about syril making dedra's favourite meal when he knows she's had a bad day at work because he knows that calms her nerves and dedra updating her bedding to a softer duvet than the one she used to have because she knows syril likes to faceplant into the bed when he's stressed
they never say it out loud but they both just quietly do it anyway

I think my problem is that this show should've been limited to two series. Maybe three. It's dragged on for wayyyyyy too long and the pace has been off from the start.
If it had to be six seasons, I want far more character development, and I want to see many more character arcs. Show me what Emily's up to. Show me more about moira!!! I want to know about the pockets of resistance in Chicago. I wanna know more about the gang that saved luke's life!!!! June is theeeee most boring character! SHOW ME SOMEONE ELSE

NO, NO, NO: Serena Joy Should’ve Died Beside Fred, Not Gotten a Baby and a Bow.
I’m not, nor will I ever be, interested in redeeming Serena Joy Waterford.
She’s not an “antihero.” She’s not a “complicated victim.” She’s not a poor lost mother trying to heal her trauma.
She is a woman who built the system. Not reluctantly. Not blindly. But with deliberate, calculated cruelty. A woman who used her privilege, education, and voice to help architect the oppression of other women, and then cried victim only when the boot she helped design landed on her own neck.
And what’s worse? The show didn’t just let her live. It rewarded her.
Her so-called redemption arc? Hinges entirely on pregnancy. Once again: motherhood as salvation. As if the only way a woman can be considered worthy of grace is through childbirth. As if her empathy only counts when she’s the one in pain.
Motherhood does not erase systemic abuse. It does not make you forgiven. It does not make you good.
And while Serena was being handed a baby and a redemption monologue, Nick Blaine was being scapegoated. He was never given grace. Never allowed vulnerability unless it came with sacrifice. He gave everything, his peace, his safety, his freedom, for the woman he loved, and he got judged for it. Silenced. Rewritten.
But Serena? She got tears and lighting and nuance. She got to be "complex."
If you're tempted to reframe her as the emotional core of the show, I urge you to rewatch Seasons 1 through 3. Watch how many times she chooses power. Watch how many times she inflicts harm with a smile. Watch how quickly her so-called empathy vanishes the moment it no longer benefits her.
I will never get over the fact that this show chose to redeem her, a character who weaponized womanhood, who enforced rape, who destroyed lives, while punishing the messy, quiet, unwavering love story at its center. And I genuinely can’t think of a darker moment on television than when she held June down with Fred in Season 2. That scene wasn’t ambiguous. It wasn’t “morally complex.” It was straight up evil.
So to watch the show pivot in Seasons 5 and 6 — to frame her as a misunderstood mother, to place her grief on par with June’s, to present her with softness and nuance and literal candlelight — is not just ridiculous. It’s insulting. It’s revisionist. And it erases the very horror the show once had the courage to name.
That it held up June and Serena as “two mothers bonded by grief,” while erasing the truth: one of them literally created the grief. I know the word gets thrown around a lot on this app, but this is by definition a trauma bond.
If you want a story about redemption, fine. But don’t pretend this one was earned. Don’t rewrite abuse as complexity just because you like Yvonne Strahovski.
Serena should’ve been on the wall next to Fred. And the fact that she wasn’t, that she got softness while others got death, says more about how we value certain kinds of women than anything else.
And here’s the thing. I’m not equating trauma, what happened in Gilead is horror. But the larger message this sends to women?
I’ve been betrayed by women. I’ve navigated corporate spaces and so-called sisterhoods that fracture the second power becomes more important than solidarity. And watching this story bend over backward to humanize Serena while punishing others, while scapegoating men who sacrificed more, or erasing women who lived outside the mold, felt like a gut punch.
Because what it tells us is that you can abuse, manipulate, and destroy, but if you cry in the right tone and have a baby in your arms, you get to be forgiven.
And what does that say to the rest of us?
It says: your pain is inconvenient. Your complexity is too much. Your worth is conditional.
These writers are so tone deaf I want to scream.
