"Cas, it's been 5 minutes, he's getting takeout," Sam muttered, flicking through reports on his laptop, glancing at him again, then under his breath, "Brooding fricking angels..."

Castiel doesn't even hear him, he presses his palm to the window as more rain hits it, eyes locked on the parking lot with intense focus.

Six weeks after Cas' death, Dean buys a wedding ring.

It's not a conscious decision. He's been on autopilot since Chuck's defeat, going through the motions of living while feeling completely hollow inside. The last thing Cas did was die so Dean could live, so Dean's gonna pretend until it's true, because he can't let Cas have died for nothing.

The enormity of his grief is overbearing and he can't even put into words everything he's lost. How can he explain what they were to each other when they never spoke it out loud, not until Cas' last, awful speech that didn't even allow Dean time to respond?

The silence is swallowing him up, everything he didn't get to say.

And then Dean sees the ring.

It's a battered thing, shining dully in the glass counter at a pawnbroker's just outside of Topeka. It's one of a pair, and Dean snatches both of them, stuffing one far into his pocket and the other on his left hand.

The weight of it settles something in his chest.

People start treating him differently. Well-meaning strangers will start conversations in friendly, cheerful tones, catch a glimpse of his ring and the flatness of his eyes and put two and two together. Their voices will go soft, their whole demeanor shifting to a gentle carefulness. Like Dean has a terminal illness.

Good, Dean thinks. He doesn't want to be pitied but it brings him some type of satisfaction, knowing that the grief gnawing at him from the inside has become visible.

If his love couldn't be acknowledged while Cas was alive, at least it is now.

And later, when Cas finally returns to him, Dean doesn't say a word. He just reaches into his pocket, pulls out the ring still resting there. It's warm, and Cas' breath catches when Dean takes his hand and slides it onto his finger.

i have no issue with people who dislike destiel but i do think it’s funny how frequently dean and cas get categorized as a “two guys standing next to each other” ship when they were literally doing shot for shot recreations of brokeback mountain and romeo and juliet

Let's put it this way: if Jensen "the Vessel" Ackles told me right now to my face that Dean did not love Cas Like That, I would tell him to his face that he is in denial about the facts. That Dean loves Cas with everything he has is deeply grounded in that text, and is an opinion fire could not burn out of me, and no authoritative voice could change my mind about.

how ironic is it that Jody basically adopts Sam and Dean and then later adopts Alex and Claire. oh, the similarities between them all

you have Alex, who was a monster when we met her and Sam, who had demon blood in him. Alex was given a group of friends - a boyfriend - by someone who was wronged by her and later tried to kill her. and Sam, who was given a group of friends - a girlfriend - by someone who wanted to keep tabs on him to turn him into something worse. and both of them found this out in front of their loved ones. oh, and they both have something from their past, always coming and biting them in the ass again. oh, they both have school on Monday, too, can't forget that :)

you have Claire, who has so many daddy issues they can rival Dean's. both of their backgrounds are so, so similar, they really are just the same person in different fonts. what, Mary dies so John goes on this huge hunt and changes who he is to find her killer, and Jimmy gets possessed by an angel, leading Amelia to go on this huge hunt to find him and changing who she is as a person? and both John and Amelia die to protect their kid?

idk it's just a little ironic that Jody has these two boys who aren't always in her life, but she has these two girls who are so very similar to them that she does have every day of her life

also, Claire is gay??? if their backstories are so similar, should Dean not also b-(indistinct screaming, cars honking)
