Syzoth’s family - headcanons.
Now this isn't true game lore - headcanons only! How I feel his family should've been based on how things were spoken about in the game.
Syzoth's “family” he refers to constantly isn't what most people assume it to be- that being a wife and children:
Syzoth is outcasted by his own society for his ability to “shift shape”. It's looked down upon that he is able to appear human, and he was shunned from his own kind because of it.
Therefore, the chances of him, one, falling in love, and two, having children, especially when he (and almost his whole race) considers himself a “freak among his people” is pretty damn slim.
Instead, I'm throwing it out there that Syzoth's family are simply that- his blood family. His mother, father, siblings. Maybe the only few to not completely outcast him, the only few who cared for him despite his “freakish nature” of being able to turn human.
Especially considering those who were born Zeterran with the ability to shift shape, as we find out through Syzoth’s ending scene, were culled by the government. The chances that the family he speaks of knew what he was when he was born, and instead of letting the government kill him, tried to keep his abilities hidden instead, is the most likely case rather than Syzoth having a wife and children.
Syzoth only ever had his family, before he met Shang Tsung, and for them to be tortured for his own mistakes and ending up captured because of his “freak” abilities that they desperately tried to keep hidden (and therefore keep him safe) caused him a lot of mental anguish, no doubt.
Syzoth's going through it, man. 'Nough said.

Yes I might just be saying all this to give my boy Syzoth a break from all the memes of him hearing about his family’s murder and then immediately falling head over tail for Ashrah in the game. But I also just truly feel as though this is what Syzoth meant by his family (which it isn't, for the record- Syzoth clears this up with a line to Scorpion during PVP: 'He brutally murdered my wife and son'). But I think it's stupid, so here we are.
Also Baraka is totally like his adoptive, grumpy as fuck dad. At least he is in my eyes. Baraka no.1 dad.
Also also, Syzoth definitely came from a clutch of eggs like reptiles do on Earth. I can see him being a middle child hatchling 1000%.
Here's another gif of the precious boy for your time
