Gakkou e Ikou! 2015: Congratulations on your 20th anniversary, V6!

The legendary show, Gakkou e Ikou!, ended 7 years ago… But has been upgraded to Gakkou e Ikou! 2015 in an effort to celebrate V6’s 20th anniversary. In autumn of 2015, the show will be revived in the form of a 3 hour special episode!!

This year of 2015, V6 celebrates its 20th anniversary since debuting. Because of how memorable this year is, the legendary TBS program Gakkou e Ikou! will be brought back in autumn for one night only.

Gakkou e Ikou! premiered in October 1997 and ran for about 11 years (with a renewal in April 2005 that renamed the show to Gakkou e Ikou! MAX). The premise involved V6 members going on location shoots in various areas to meet with students (even to their schools) for a multitude of projects. The point of this was to investigate what sort of things students experienced at the time–and to help them in the case of any worries being expressed.

The slogan was, “Let’s make school ridiculously cool!”

While focusing on students in junior high and high school, Gakkou e Ikou! celebrated the uniqueness of school and the characters of the kids in it, most especially with the central theme being topics that’re only ever encountered in those years of education. Special segments of the show such as Miseinen no Shuchou (The Children’s Declarations), B-RAP HIGHSCHOOL, and Tokyo Love Story caused an increase in interest of the lives of students. Furthermore, a great number of impressive, individualistic students were showcased as well.

This time’s Gakkou e Ikou! 2015 has a big set and the re-appearance of its previous members, including V6, Principal Mino Monta, Marina Watanabe, Saeko, and Kaho. Both former students and students who are going to school now will be able to immerse themselves in the look and feel of how fun the show can be in this 3 hour special.

◆ The highlights are… Miseinen no Shuchou 2015! The legendary plan of revival after it ended! Pushed forward in planning due to its popularity, the program will involve today’s students declaring everything they feel with burning passion. Individual talks with V6 will also be aired, as well as the most memorable moments from the show’s archive.

V6’s Comments

Masayuki Sakamoto This time when we talk, I feel we’ll be filled with both joy and wonder with how easy it is to be open now. The Gakkou e Ikou! before had us having our own ways of interacting with the students, but this time I like to think that we’ll definitely be able to connect better. To be honest, I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m looking forward to it all the same. I have a feeling that the V6 of today will be able to bring happy, fun feelings to all the students that we encounter.

Hiroshi Nagano There was a time a while ago where we were saying that it’d be nice if we could bring the show back, so I’m happy that of all the times for that revival to happen, it’s now. Gakkou e Ikou! started eighteen years ago and continued for eleven years. That being said, it’s been seven years since it ended, and I think it’d be good for the six of us to meet students again in the wake of this good year. This time I think we’ll be interacting with them differently, because there’s quite a bit that’s changed from the students of that time [seven years ago] and the students of today. In any case, I look forward to meeting with students along as all us six, and whatever school we go to will probably be an incredibly fun one.

Yoshihiko Inohara When I was first told about this, my first thought was ‘oh, man, it’d be great if it pushes through!’. I seriously think that if V6 hadn’t been able to pass that twenty year [anniversary] mark, then maybe we wouldn’t have been able to consider this kind of thing. That being said, both us [V6] and the staff are more than happy to work on this program again. Seven years have passed, and I think because there were a number of students back then who had some hopes of becoming teachers in the future, maybe those same young folk are teachers today. The idea of being able to come across those students again somehow [with them being teachers now] makes me excited like nothing else, and I hope that together we’ll be able to create something new and amazing together.

Go Morita There was a time before where along with the other members we were talking about doing Gakkou e Ikou! for our 20th anniversary, so I’m happy that the six of us will be able to do this together. Since seven years have passed, the relationship of between all of us [in V6] has changed, and so I think that this time’s Gakkou e Ikou! will show some new sides of how we think and how we interact with the students–what our relationships will be.

Ken Miyake Gakkou e Ikou!’s revival being timed with V6’s 20th anniversary is something that makes me unbelievably happy. The foundation for all of V6’s variety shows was Gakkou e Ikou!, and I think the experience of going back to our roots like this will give us a lot to learn. I think we’ll be able to feel the freshness of the students of this day and age, and being able to experience the difference of the students of today compared to the ones of the past is something I look forward to.

Junichi Okada Since it’s our 20th anniversary year now, it makes me happy to know that we’ll be able to have a program that had been there with us during our humble beginnings. There’s this feeling that the show Gakkou e Ikou! helped form the V6 that we have today, and while I have no idea what’s going to happen in particular, I know it’ll be nice to go places and have a lot of fun with the other members again while remembering the good old days.

Producer Kanehara’s Message Congratulations on your 20th anniversary, V6! In celebration of this annniversary, we’ve decided to listen to all your voices calling for Gakkou e Ikou! to return–and it fills us with a lot of emotion knowing this is happening. We’ll be including scenes from all your favourite segments (Miseinen no Shuchou, B-RAP HIGH SCHOOL, and Tokyo Love Story) to make sure there’s laughs a-plenty for everyone, and both V6 and the staff here at TBS will do our best to create a show you all can enjoy. We hope to bring out everyone’s charm in heaps of different situations for 2015’s Gakkou e Ikou! Requests telling us what you want to see will obviously be accepted, as well as requests for V6 to come to your school. Students and former students all over the country, please look forward to this 3 hour special!
