Dumb
One of the dumbest things I do is wait for things to calm down.
Telling myself that it will all be better after whatever I’m currently dealing with is over.
Putting off being at peace until something is finished. Making my peace dependent on having down time. Where everything else is at peace.
Here’s why it truly is one of the dumbest things that I do.
First, even if it works, it means that my peace will intermittent.
Second, it actually doesn’t work. Because that’s not how life works.
There’s the old line (attributed to a bunch of different people) that “history is just one thing after another.” That’s life in general. There really isn’t any down time, any off season where stuff stops happening – even for just a moment.
But the big reason it’s one of the dumbest things I do? If this is how I’m looking at things, then I’ve made what’s going on inside me dependent on what’s going on around me.
I’ve let myself be dependent on things that I cannot depend on. If that’s not self-sabotage, then I don’t know what is.
This is what I was thinking about when I read today’s Gospel. Peter is in a boat that’s being tossed about by the waves, because the wind is against it, when he sees Jesus walking on the water.
Peter says to Jesus, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
Jesus replies, “Come.”
Peter gets out of the boat and starts walking to Jesus on the water.
Then he looks around, sees how strong the wind is, sees how rough the waves are, and gets scared. When he does, he starts to sink and cries out to Jesus, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately, Jesus saves him.
The thing that sticks with me is that the wind and the waves didn’t die down when Peter got out of the boat.
Peter walks on the water – the same rough water that is still tossing the boat around, in the same wind that’s still whipping up the waves. In the middle of the wind and the waves, Peter walks along peacefully. Because Peter is focused on Jesus.
The moment he starts paying more attention to the wind and the waves? The moment he starts to focus on all the things that tell him that it’s impossible to walk along peacefully in the middle of a storm? He starts to sink.
The takeaway is obvious. So obvious that it embarrasses me to say that I struggle with this.
But I do. I keep focusing on the wrong thing, on the wind and the waves. On the stuff outside of me, the stuff that I can’t depend on. With my unspoken assumption that all that stuff has to be at peace, before I can be at peace.
If that’s not self-sabotage, then I don’t know what is.
So I’ll ask Him for help as I founder. And He’ll stretch out His hand and catch me.
Again. Because we’ve done this before.
I don’t know why, but He never grows weary of helping me.
That’s not true. Actually, I do know why.
And it’s why I know He’s the one that I can depend on.

can't wait to see percy's reaction upon learning that the twelve major gods have been staying on the 600th floor of the empire state building. like imagine the rage of this twelve-year-old kid when he learns his dad, who allegedly abandonded him and his mom shortly after he was born, was actually just down the fucking street this whole time.

Babysitting duty calls, Klarion
It another world threatening battle for the justice league, young justice against the league of Villains and chaos children before most of the chaos children froze as if they sense something bad was approaching and immediately dipped out.. except klarion whom was fighting with raven who immediately froze up too late in front of the portal.
Only for a green portal to appear, as a worned out floating glowing green, but blue skinned teenage boy who turn into a man with red eyes, a clock staff in hand and a glowing white hair baby in a baby carrier.
Klarion is literally struggling like a feral cat who got wet in cold water against some invisible force speaking in some odd static like language before giving up after half a minute when the man spoke back with a short word.
The man now just shape-shifting into turn elderly just gave klarion the baby carrier before noticing how the heroes and villains have stop in mid battles looking at both klarion and him.
"All in soon time, but be warn Flashes whom break the laws of times will get their due if you keep messing with the past and future." Spoken the elderly now shape-shifted into a young boy before he turn back to klarion leaving him a note and glowing baby bag before floating back into the swirling green portal.
Klarion could only look at note with his eye twitching, Teekl meowing as she climb into the baby carrier purring around the glowing baby.
"Why do I keep getting babysitting duty, it so unfa-..." klarion grumbled as he pick up the baby carrier and bag teleporting away..
....
....
....
"What just happened?" Said Dick whom only one question would be put on hold til later in the watchtower of what just happen before the fight resuming with the young and original justice league winning since the league of Villains were distracted.

God is with the Righteous
God is with the Righteous
Psalm 14:5-6. There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge. They–the wicked–in spite of their apparent oblivious attitude toward God, actually do live in fear because there is that in all mankind that recognizes the existence of a righteous God. There has been more than one self-proclaimed…

“If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.”
That is harsh. Even for Jesus. Who is not exactly known for avoiding difficult things.
But that’s how today’s Gospel starts. So why would Jesus say that?
First, this isn’t about shock value. This – and the rest of the teaching that follows it – is Jesus unpacking something He said earlier,
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”
This is what Jesus is following up on. Because when we hear, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God,” what you and I are thinking is, “Okay, this is important.”
So we add it into the mix. Think about it, maybe. And keep doing what we’re doing.
It’s like Jesus knows us (which He does). Which is what today’s Gospel is about.
Jesus is saying to us, “There’s more to ‘seek ye first.’ You’re missing out. First means first. Before anything else. Even before what you think are the most important things in life.”
Truth be told, those things that we think of as the most important things in life? Our relationships with those closest to us?
It’s not that they’re not important. They most certainly are.
It’s just that the road to get there isn’t direct. There’s someplace we need to go first. Because we don’t have everything we need. Not on our own.
If you want to have the insight you need to truly hear to someone, you’re going to need something more.
If you want to have the patience you need to truly help someone, you’re going to need something more.
If you want to have the strength you need to truly love someone, you’re going to need something more.
And that something more, is being grounded in God. Rest wholeheartedly in God. Depend fully on God’s grace. Be filled with God’s peace.
Which is the only way that you and I can have everything we need, so that those relationships can be all that they were meant to be.
“All these things will be added unto you.” Especially the most important things.
That is the secret, the “why” behind “seek ye first.”

We do need God, there is no doubt about that. So, I hope for all of us to side step the deceptive traps of the enemy and walk with God in joy, strength, peace and wisdom. Lord, keep us dependent upon You in that heart to heart relationship with You. We are better people when we are in followship of You, Your ways, truth, life.
