Dreams came and went throughout the night. On the hardwood floor, her breath formed like mist on a pane of glass. A dream about music and the piano she played as a child, a dream she could fly. The city and the countryside from above, the cool air on her face, her lips, and the clouds spread throughout layers of blackening blue and the stars and bodies alight in the galaxy, in infinity. Satellites, dust trails from a comet, resembling the mane of an ancient and majestic lion, a serpent, bound and weeping in the strands of hair, its skull crushed and its fangs pulled from their sockets, the ashen skin on its back peeling. Beyond, she saw figures in the starlight. Her mother. White robes flowed from her back and her hair, bright as the sun.
