To keep this as short and concise as possible...
Somebody (I won’t be showing their URL because I don’t want this person to get harassed, but if any of you manage to find out who this is, please keep it to yourself) in the DB RPC decided to vagueblog me over this post I made (+ vagueblog the people who liked or in general showed support for it) regarding how gross it is for characters to call Saiyans “monkeys, apes, etc” -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Putting a sc of my post here to show the timestamp. The odds of them NOT talking about me here are veryyyy slim.)
And all I have to say is...Wow. Just wow.
1) Way to immediately throw around the typical “snowflake” insult. Like that alone isn’t VERY telling. But to then go on and insult me, saying I live in “stupid ass projections” and that I should “get lost, don’t be a part of the fandom anymore so I don’t become an eyesore to everybody else” is really just. Going the extra mile to be a douchebag, huh?
2) Since this person didn’t bother to ask me in private why I feel it’s racist to call Saiyans such labels and why I feel the way I do in general (no no, instead they chose to publicly lambaste me), I’ll explain it here.
To start off, it is actually shown in canon that Vegeta (along with Nappa and Raditz) hate being called a monkey or an ape or w/e. Goku didn’t have to deal with living under the oppression of Frieza and the Frieza Force, so such a slur doesn’t hit him quite as hard.
Even if it DID or DIDN’T for either of them...WHO CARES? That STILL doesn’t change the fact that it’s LITERALLY A SLUR IN-UNIVERSE. FRIEZA THREW IT AROUND TO DEGRADE SAIYANS. ZARBON, DODORIA, AND OTHERS DID THE SAME.
Bulma calling Vegeta that isn’t cute, or right, nor is it the case for any other character calling Saiyans that. And before someone goes “they’re fictional characters so who cares lmao” - DUH. I’m well aware they’re fictional.
It’s the principle. The principle behind willingly using a slur that you know has zero positive connotations. Be it for ficitional characters, IRL people - racism is racism to me, and people having no issue with referring to an oppressed race (that faced near total genocide) with a word that they know is a slur is HELLA off-putting.
( Not to mention that...you know. “Monkey”, “ape”, etc are also IRL slurs used for Black people. So there’s that added weight, to hopefully further show just how freely using those particular words to insult / demean whoever you’re talking about is incredibly sus. Point blank period. )
In my eyes, it just shows how ignorant and tone-deaf said person is. That’s all.
...Oh and, I’m not going anywhere btw. I have no plans to ditch my DB blogs currently. So sorry, but my “““snowflake””” ass is staying put for now :)
