     ☄  @vrepit-sa
Nausea clings heavy and sour in his stomach as he advances the corridors of the Galra ship. This needs to be done, he tells himself. This needs to be done, he repeats, a mantra to keep the tightness in his chest from suffocating him. He won’t admit it to anyone, but he’s afraid. Not the usual ‘what if’ during a mission afraid, rather honest to god terrified. Telling himself that he could just turn around and run terrified.
Sendak is somewhere on this ship, and Shiro knows that he isn’t ready to face him again.
After everything that he’d heard, way back when they’d only barely left Arus... After slamming down on the emergency eject button to Sendak’s cryopod in a moment of blind panic... After having thought, guiltily, that he had murdered someone who hadn’t been able to fight back... There’s a great deal about the Commander that Shiro fears, and that’s already without the addition of the fact that Sendak himself is frightening in all manner of ways. And now, knowing that he was ejected helplessly from the castle and left for dead, there’s no doubt in Shiro’s mind that he’ll have some extra anger to drive him in a fight.
This needs to be done. You fought him once, you can do it again. The team will      catch up once they’ve finished their part of the mission. We can’t allow Sendak      to regain his presence and his power in this war.
                                                         This has to be done.
Pressing on and turning a corner, Shiro’s search for the Commander ends very abruptly. The sight of him, impossibly huge and somehow more menacing than before, standing at the opposite end of the hall draws the Paladin to a sharp halt, his eyes widening. He pretends like he can’t feel the tremble that enters his hands, closing them into tight fists as he draws himself up to stand tall. Fear can’t be shown here. Anxiety can’t get the better of him. If it does, he dies. He has to hold himself the way he always does in his fights, perhaps try to channel that state of mind he would go to during his gladiator fights, that mode so near auto-pilot where he could, however temporarily, be almost numb to his emotions.

“Sendak!” Collecting himself enough for his shout to boom down the corridor, Shiro takes a few slow, faux-confident steps forward, eyebrows drawn down and teeth grit. “I’m sure you've been expecting us.”

[ text: please leave ] what is galra culture like toward its children?[ text: please leave ] I’m curious.[ text: please leave ] are they raised to go to war? are they given                        a choice in what they do? are they all taught                        to fight?[ text: please leave ] …did things change when Zarkon did?[ text: please leave ] I really don’t know all that much about the                        Galra, all things considered.

▹ @vrepit-sa ♥’d for a starter
By now, he should be accustomed to things not going according to plan. It happens so often -- more often than things going the way they’re supposed to, actually. Though of course, there are varying degrees of how ‘off plan’ things can go, and usually they get pretty lucky, or they all adapt quickly to the circumstances.
This was only supposed to be a simply supply run. Stop off on a planet, pick up some necessities that are starting to run a bit low, and give everyone a bit of a break. That simple. That calm. That’s all this is supposed to be. That’s all Shiro expects it to be, even if he does keep his guard up and his eye out the entire time -- and things actually go pretty smoothly at first.
Until, on his way back to the castle with a load of supplies,      he catches sight of a large, looming figure and purple fur.
It’s his imagination, that’s what he tells himself when he turns to face the figure. A hallucination, or... something. Anything but reality, because it can’t be real. The last time he saw that face, he’d shot the cryopod out into space -- a spur of the moment action caused pure and simply by panic rather than logic, but it had happened all the same. It shouldn’t be possible... He can’t be here...

“Sendak.” Though he fights it, there’s still a faint waver in Shiro’s voice as he drops the case of supplies to the ground, gaze never leaving the Galran figure ahead of him. He’d be lying if he said he isn’t still shaken after the conversation they’d had while the castle had been malfunctioning -- though he’s still questioning whether that had really been Sendak, or simply Alfor’s faulty AI messing with him -- but he’s determined not to show it, whether this is reality or not.
“You should be dead.” Floating through space, never aware of his last moments. Or, what should have been his last moments. Regardless, Shiro is on the defensive, his guard up, hands curling into fists at his sides should Sendak initiate an attack. Even if he is questioning the reality of this situation, he’s not going to take any chances.

put a “◊” in my ask for a sticky note left on your muse’s fridge door in the morning by my muse                                                                               »» @vrepit-sa
「  Pidge came up to me and said something about                             wanting to ‘tear my face off, chew it up, and spit it                             on my feet’ in Galran last night.
Hunk said something about ‘eviscerating his foes                             and bathing in their blood,’ also in Galran.
They both seemed to think they were speaking                             pleasantries.
Stop teaching everyone phrases in Galran and                             telling them it means something that it doesn’t.                             If you’re not going to teach them useful phrases,                        don’t teach them anything at all.
