01.  they’ve got each other’s backs!!  during combat especially.  though ed may be fully capable of protecting himself,  she would watch over him in the shadows  (  as a sniper  ),  &  in turn he would do the same for her.

02.  riza,  though always seen as ed’s mother figure,  also treats him as an  EQUAL,  a superior.  she wouldn’t patronize him all the time  &  ed probably respects her for that.

03.  between roy  &  ed’s bickering,  riza is the  MEDIATOR,  usually.  there are times when she’d take sides  &  just let her sarcasm show LOL.  like agreeing w/ ed about roy’s incompetence,  or agreeing w/ roy about ed’s height.

        her  countenance,  always hidden by a  PASSIVE  facade,  has slipped  &  behind it  reveals  one of  benevolence.  cerise tiers curled upward  (  slight,  but  undeniably  there  ),  a hand ‘pon his shoulder━━  gentle  despite how calloused  &  blood stained it was.

01.  once riza became acquainted with hughes during the ishval war,  she tried her  BEST  to keep him alive by keeping an eye out for him on the battlefield.  she  desperately  wished for him to live through this war  &  be able to see gracia again.  he,  at least,  had a  FAMILY  to return to.

02.  riza,  typically being the figure that  listens  to others,  found that she was comfortable enough to confide in hughes.  even though she’s always  VAGUE  with her worries,  he never pursued for more details  &  she’s grateful for that  (  hughes can actually piece it together on his own anyways  ).  even when he died,  she finds herself frequently visiting his grave to talk to him as if he’s alive :_ )

03.  on a liGHTER NOTE,  to branch off of your hc,  riza loves visiting hughes’ family  (  tho tries to limit it ‘cause she doesn’t want to be a bother  ).  she loved gracia’s cooking,  &  she loved playing with elicia…  it was like a family she never had.

04.  when hughes died,  unlike roy,  she didn’t cry at his funeral.  instead that sorrow took  weeks  to settle in…  weeks after his death,  she immersed herself even more into her work,  it wasn’t until a random night  (  many moons after he passed  )  did it finally hit her that he was gone.  for the first time she took a sick day.
