No wait, I figured it out: none of their pokemon are ice types or have ice moves because they live next to the route 4 desert. Now, you'd think that this would be more reason to have one, because it must get sweltering in the summer, but alas - and I say this as someone from southern California - they are delicate desert flowers who wither in the cold. actually game theory: one or both of them has actual cold-triggered chronic pain and like yeah, they COULD work around it to use ice-types, or they could just ignore it bc it's not like excluding it is stopping them from fucking wrecking people. depending on which way it swings, ingo's continuing not to use ice moves out of pure habit, or he is In Actual Hell (and has yet another reason to never let go of his coat and hat)
